Yeah it's probably the nicest place I've stayed at, plus it's extremely convenient.
Be warned about choosing where to stay in Brisbane CBD. Accommodation MAY look pretty close to the CBD on a map, but in all reality it may be far away.
The Sebel is about a 5 minute walk to Queen St Mall, 3 minute walk to the Botanical Gardens, and about a 10-15 minute walk to Southbank (check out Southbank, it's really nice)
Use the Sebel as a guide and you can't go wrong.
I wouldn't go any further than Zig's recommendation.

man you must be used to living in little old newcastle.

it's not that big a city. i've walked from southbank to the valley mall in about 25 minutes.

and if you don't like walking just buy a transit pass, which includes bus, train and citycat all on the one ticket. and you can get from one end of the city to the other in no time and no energy.

also a citycat ride is not a bad idea to see the city, you can get one anywhere and just ride it all day if you want, it goes along the river from St Lucia(inland) to Hamilton(neat the mouth of the river) going past southbank, the city, the valley. and you get to see all the rich fuckers that live on the river(that ed has mentioned one of the brissie bootlegs)

Do you think the Astor is a long way from Queen Street Mall?

Not really. It depends on what you want to do and see in Brissie. It makes it far away from from other places such as Southbank (just over 1km from the Astor) and the Botanical Gardens etc
As I said, I wouldn't have any problems with staying there, but I wouldn't want to stay anywhere further than that

. 5 mins walk to Queen Street Mall
. Only 200m walk to Central Railway Station

Sounds good to me for the price :)

I'd go for it. I wouldn't worry about the train station. It only costs $20 in a taxi to get from the airport to the city

    Yeah....I've sent a request :)

The Sebel Suites would have been lovely....but I just can't justify spending that money :o Maybe if we were only staying a couple of nights, it would have been a nice treat, but adds up when staying for a week.

Thanks for the recommendation though hun :)

Noooooo....everyone asks me that when I tell them the binocular story. I was having more fun looking at the offices and seeing the "garfield" mug and just weird shit people have. I did see some guy drinking out of a 5L juice bottle and his wife cracked the shits at him! ha ha

The last thing I want to see is someone having sex, in the toilet, in the bath or getting dressed. I prefer to watch how people behave in their natural environment.

Not that I do it often....just when I have the chance! :D

I enjoyed that when I was in Sydney last October. No binocula's....but just sitting on the balcony, watching all the different people walk by.... :) Fascinating!
