I am wondering, as far as the concert is concerned, how many 10c members were from out of state? All these low #s (1-300xxx) sittin in sections 1,2,3 just standin around.
Everyone reacts differently.
Since I was front and center - I made a point of looking back at the crowd from time to time, and the general view was that everyone was rocking out and had their hands in the air.
There are always the uptight people who can't let loose and its annoying. I had some near me in the front row for God's sakes. I am sure they thought I was a lunatic. But what can you do. I am sure they were true fans - they had memberships - you don't do that becuase you casually like a band.
The crowd in Tampa seemed much more into it, but it was inside and louder, and I was 15 rows back this time. Its such a different experience to be inside -vs- out. And for those of you who have had the experience - the general admission shows were totally different too.
I have a question for the other attendees of WPB 08. Was there a major sing along for Better Man? For some reason it was hard to tell from my perspective. I know everyone around me was singin, but I honestly was in another world at that point.166XXX, Memories like fingerprints are slowly raising... rxtasy, I completely agree with you. I use to live in South Florida and I went to alot of shows-never saw Pearl Jam however-but when I moved up to the Northeast my mind was blown by the energy! It is crazy up here.
This summer we were going to fly down there and see the WPB and Tampa show and visit family at the same time. However, we decided against it because the last show we flew down for-Tool, last summer-was super disappointing. So we are doing both Camdens, D.C., and both MSG's.
And, Pearl Juli... I dont doubt that around the world fans are crazier but there really is a huge difference between shows in South Florida and the Northeast. Go see Pearl Jam in MSG or Camden or Boston and you will see what everyone is talking about and why everyone is talking. I'm kind of tired of people from here (the U.S. of A) ragging on each other and other states' crowds.
You know what? I'll tell you something: the crowds in general here in the U.S. are very very calm and for most people's standards even "boring" compared to pretty much the rest of the world. Should Pearl Jam stop playing the U.S. and just play in Europe and South America the rest of their freaking lives? Hell no.
My Peruvian friend at the lawn was extremely disappointed because nobody seemed to be singing to EVERYTHING, nor pogoing, nor going CRAZZZYYYYY during the show. I, and Argentina native, was kind of bummed beforehand because I knew there was not going to be a massive guitar part sing-a-long, nor massive sing-a-long to every freaking song, nor spontaneous "Ole ole ole Pearl Jam...Pearl Jam..." nor the energy of a Buenos Aires show, and not just in Florida, I wasn't and I'm not going to find it in ANY U.S. show. Not even MSG. Not even close.
and? I still had a great time, had a great experience and the band was freaking amazing.
What I mean is, and maybe I'll get punched for this, haha, that I find it ridiculous when people here "compete" and rag on each other about crowd participation here in the states when pretty much all U.S. shows are...a bit lacking in that aspect compared to say Europe and South America.
So, a European or South American could come on here after every freaking U.S. show and post a thread about how lame U.S. crowds are...but you don't see that happening, do ya?So, why can't people from different states just let it be instead of singling out? Because trust me, it's not like their crowd is going to be THAT much better...
Ok, now I'm officially going to be punched AND kicked for this
TOTALLY AGREE! Word by word. By my standards, US crowds are lame, because we south american are so freacking passionate and crazy about every band we see. But of course, If I go to a US show, I know what I´m gonna get, I know how fans are there and I don´t have a problem with it. It´s their way, I´m not gonna mess with them. I´m sure everyone is enjoying it their own way0 -
I just moved back to South Florida 3 years ago after living in the Boston Area for 15 years. Its true - the Northeast is the place for music - as I suspect Seattle & San Fran are as well.
However, I won the lottery in WPB and had great seats in Tampa. In Boston, even with a 166XXX number, I get kicked to the curb. We'll see what happens at the end of the tour - but I'm not expecting good seats. Sure they'll be better than if I wasn't in the fan club (Although this post disturbs me: http://forums.pearljam.com/showpost.php?p=5540949&postcount=21 ) but having really good seats is a great experience I feel l ucky to have had as well as an exceptionally good crowd.
I know we are talking about WPB now, but did anyone see how stoked the band was after Tampa?!?! They took a bow arm in arm. I think I have only seen that 2-3 times in 16 shows.166XXX, Memories like fingerprints are slowly raising... Oh yeah...I don't dispute it. MSG people made the stage bounce. Now THAT's my kind of people! ha. It's a fact that well, the "general crowd" around here seems to be into other stuff...or type of music. There seems to be a higher concentration of: 1) People who enjoy Pearl Jam-like rock music. 2) Pearl Jam fans 3) 10C members in the northeast. And people will travel there from other places, too. I know I would go to MSG if I could. It's an epic venue promising an epic show.
That said, and what I was trying to say in my previous posts, it's still a bit unfair and not cool to say a band should just stop playing shows in say...Florida, or why bother playing there. It's a bit offensive (lol, yeah, even though the original poster said "no offense"haha but oh well) to people like me who do care about the band, want to see them live, and unfortunately can't make it to other shows! (although I really hope to do so in the future).
That's all. It was just the accumulation of overall negativity I've seen around this place that got to me, and I guess the way the original post was phrased, seemingly negative as well, was sort of the last straw for meMISSION ACCOMPLISHED: 2008-06-11

I guess my question should have asked if the whole place was singing so loudly that Eddie moved the mike away from his mouth in order to let the crowd sing. This happened at Tampa, and every other show I have been to in the last 2-3 tours, but for some weird reason I can't remeber WPB. Again -I think I was in shock from being so close to the band. I saw EV's grey Calvin Kleins. I have been daydreaming about whether they we tighty whitey style or the boxer briefs....but I digress.

Enough speculating. On June 26th when the bootlegs are available for everybody to hear we can then tell if the crowds were truly loud. I went to the Tampa show, it was a concert, everything seemed loud. I actually thought the sound quality was bad in Tampa. I couldn't hear anything from mike or stone. Jeff and Matt muffled everything else that is why I'm eagerly awaiting the mp3.tampa '080

I complete agree with you. Bands should not stop playing south florida, or any other locale for that mater. And I understand why it would be offensive. Not to mention, if bands stop going to places that the energy wasn't crazy. Its like a capitalism of emotions that only supplies the locales that pay the bands with the emotional response the band wants. Therefore it doesn't respect diverse cultures or people. It would be an extremely sad day if that were to happen.
