Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs! Her voice is absolutely unique, and she is postively mesmerizing live. Not as famous as most already listed, but no less talented or incredible.

Joe Strummer's voice is incredible too. Not from a "quality vocalizing" point of view (i.e. there are obviously much better singers), but since this is asking for "most recognizable voices", he totally fits there. He has one of the most committed, passionate, snarlingly sincere voices ever.

And my #1 most recognizable voice (and also most amazing rock voice ever) would be: Jeff Buckley.

Check this out, my favorite Jeff Buckley song and my fave video peformance (and please, you must keep your eyes glued from the 4:26 - 5:32 marks... passion channeled vocally from an otherworldly place):

Thank heavens it's French t.v. and they don't have the same ADD quick camera cuts American music t.v. had even then. They are the only ones smart enough to hold the camera on his face during the most amazing vocal parts of the song without cutting away over and over. Remember how revolutionary Sinead O'Connor's "Nothing Compares 2 U" video was because it was just one consistent camera angle? Aaah, how I love being an old fogie!

    I just came across this:

& thought of this thread. Not really 'rock' & not my MOST recognisable but Florence Welch has a pretty distinctive voice.

I agree whole heartedly about Jeff Buckley, I love him singing 'Je n'en connais pas la fin', so haunting and beautiful. Almost makes your heart ache.

I also agree with Dimitris,Ian Curtis and Robert Smith are unmistakable to me as well as Maynard James Keenan and Bon Scott. Ooooo and Johnny Cash and Tom Waits. :)

Seriously? Harper and young are the most generic. Name 12 vocalists. Read the first post maybe?

This is bleeping crucial!!! or please don't at all.

    Neil Young is generic?

I won't comment on Ben, but Young is very, very distinct. So... I can't agree with your sentiments.

Ozzy is the most distinct. Who sounds like that guy?
