What can I say but unbelievably mind blowing. To get the news last week that there was really gonna be a secret tour in the run up to xmas, I just couldn't believe our luck. I had to do some serious work to get down there (having just come back from Led Zep in London - what a week of gigs) but my lovely wife to be was cool, as this was a once in a lifetime opportunity.

A couple of hundred people CRAMMED into the warehouse and no support (surprised there was no paddy casey following his hugely popular support set in the point last year!) and the band just strolled on stage, eddie, suprisingly, supping on a pint of Guinness, as opposed to his regular vino. A nod of his head and straight into Alive....what a way to start. After Alone, eddie informed us that it was gonna be THE night to remember in PJ's live history and that they were planning on releasing the show on Vinyl and all of us in attendance would get first dibs....well you can imagine the roar that got.

I could go into detail about the rest of the show but I'd be here all day but by 6 AM this morning we were completely shattered. I was one of the fortunate 17 that got to get up onstage and jam with the band throughout the gig (to give the boys a break), I first of all took over from Mike to do Inside Job, the second version of Even Flow (even doing my OWN amazing solo) and Dock of the Bay and then Jeff asked could I play the bass, so I stepped up for Jeremy, Just a Girl and Last Exit!

I'm tired and feel a little sick but it was worth every damn minute...Happy Christmas to PJ and all you lucky people who enjoyed the night.....Here's to Drogheda tonight :D
    I need a coffee!
  • Al, I'd such a blast on stage too... I still haven't come down... it's amazing I made it to work this morning... considering I only had 3 hours from when the gig finished after we had a few pints with the band to getting here.

I thought it was fucking hilarious when you were playing the bass though... no offense or anything :D but you should really stick to the singing.

It was just like one big party down there. And it was FULL of celebrities... I spotted that TG4 dude who turns up everywhere, Brendan Kilkenny was doing scissor kicks all over the place, I had a drink with the lead singer of the saw doctors before the first encore. Can't remember his name but LOVELY guy. It was like being in Lillies. Brush Shiels tried to grab the mike that one time but thankfully security had him thrown out. I can't believe I got to sing harvest moon with Ed though :o  wow! Just wow!

Without much warning of this show and after a txt from HH, I dropped my family like a stone. Booked a plane ticket, packed a change of undies, my toothbrush, deodorant and a t-shirt and off I was (I did do a bit of shopping and left food in the fridge!).

What a night.... there are no words to describe what happened during those 8 hours... still not sure if it was a dream or not.....

Oceans... I've always wanted to hear it live.... it was the first time I heard it live. It WAS good seeing Jack. Loved it when him and Matt played together...

Thanks for your hospitality yet again! Great seeing you too Al (though I'm still jealous...)

It's the fingers.... Though somehow it wasn't the same when Al grabbed the bass and played.

    Damn... I'm still so hyper.

Jenny is always in a state. And yes I did.. though I understand I almost broke a couple :o. I loved the way Eddie kept singing and the band playing whilst I was dragged away. Didn't phase them at all. Don't know why they started with 'gremmie outta control' right then (though did I hear Ed singing 'granny' instead of gremmie?)

i was really pissed off cos i missed the first hour of the soundcheck, so i only got to hear the last song from the new album...i liked it tho. hard 2 b sure (seeing as they didnt play it in the show) but it sounded like jeff singing it anyways.

8 hours tho. i was too nervous to get on stage, so i just stuck to my task of holding my "PLAY GOAT YOU PUSSIES" sign....really didnt think mike would still be able to pull off those bleats authentically, but they proved me wrong. 10 minute version? FACE MELTING

:D Lmao... I thought I noticed that too. Although I could be wrong, we'll just have to wait for the boot. His fingers must be alright though cos he kept playing. I think they knew security could deal with ya... it's a shame they had to tie ya down for the rest of the concert though :o but I could tell you were just happy to be there :)

So where's the other 100 who were there? I'm surprised they haven't shown up with their fanview yet... must be still in bed... lucky bastards.

ah well. as long as it meant i missed that duet with Bono on drums & Boom on vocals then its probably worth it. ugh

i got 11 guitar picks at end tho so not all bad! good to see ed do his first bile competition of the decade too. you really didnt stand a chance against him

the ukelele version of Blood was my favourite re-arrangment of the nite now that i think about it

yeh, boom should stick to the organ and bono should definitely leave the drumming to Larry... I hope they're not putting that one on the album

11? Good going... and was there a full set in there too? I got a lock of Ed's hair :) I'm not sure I was supposed to though :o but it's now draped over my tambourine at home alongside the sock that Mike gave me :)

    Well my fanview is hither....

After getting the text from tenclub to say that my tickets were already set aside from me, I set on my merry little way to Stab City, complete with snackage for the journey. After making just outside of Nenagh, the car went chuggachugga and cut out (I didn't notice for a while as I was singing quite loudly). I, as any damsal in distress would do, phoned me Da telling him he had to get me to Limerick asap! he arrived eventually anyway, and got me to Limerick (thank fuck for that bypass around Moyross!) We managed to get to the front door, where I politely told all those on the queue-list to fuck off or me Da would box them down the steps. Found the back door, and waited patiently to be let in before the other mongrels :p

next thing ye know, Ed comes out and bums a smoke off me Da, and seemed quite delighted that he only smoked cigars, and offered to let me Da in to watch the show too.

I think the highlight of the show was me Da meeting Stone, think he reminded him of Declan Nerney a little, and they spoke of country music for a while.

Highlights for me were Ed's double somersault with a twist including double front with a ½ twist, full-in, ½ in-1/2 out and full-out, with the perfect landing off of Bono's Ma's gee, whilst he sang Given to Fly.

    Overall an alright show :D
