Hand luggage

I'm sure there are quite a few people like me who are just taking hand luggage when they fly cos it's a short trip and I don't need the extra hassle. So I rang the airline yesterday to see if I could bring my digital camera cos I know how strict they are but they said yes. I know ya can't bring shampoos, make up, toothpaste, etc but just wondering are there any other obvious things that we shouldn't bring with us?

HAND BAGGAGE RESTRICTIONS – FLIGHTS FROM THE UK, POLAND, FRANCE & ITALY
Please see below for the new hand baggage restrictions for flights from the UK,
Poland (to the UK), France & Italy (to the UK)
Hand Baggage Allowance (10kg per person)
Each passenger is permitted to carry ONE item of hand baggage up to 10kg (bag
dimensions have been reduced for all flights departing from the UK). If you are
departing from a UK airport and in accordance with the UK Department for
Transport, the following reduced cabin baggage dimensions apply - 45cm (length),
35cm (width) and 16cm (depth). These dimensions include the wheels, handles,
side pockets, etc.
Passengers who arrive at a UK airport with hand baggage exceeding the above
dimensions will be required to pay an additional checked bag fee or if they are
over the maximum 20kg baggage allowance per person, an excess baggage fee will
be charged of £5.50/€8 per kilo (or local currency equivalent).
General Information on Checked Baggage Allowances
A checked baggage allowance of 20kg per passenger applies to each customer who
has paid a checked bag fee. Any passenger checking in baggage exceeding their
checked baggage allowance of 20kg per person will be charged an excess baggage
fee of £5.50/€8 per kilo (or local currency equivalent).
Passengers may not use the unused checked baggage allowance of other passengers.
No pooling/sharing of the checked baggage allowance is permitted, even within a
party travelling on the same Confirmation Number.
Checking In for Flights
Passengers should check in no later than 2 hours prior to their scheduled flight
departure, to allow sufficient time to check in and to clear security. Flights
cannot wait for passengers delayed at security points.

Yes, I have been to some Pearl Jam concerts. Several of them.
waiting for your lids to close..
but you want to watch as they peck your flesh..
Ironic that they go for the eyes first
I was going to check the site before starting to pack, so it saved me the time.
I'm boned!... *runs off to unpack razor...*

I had all the hassle in the world at Edinburgh airport... shoes off, belt off, the lot!!! no liquids, etc etc etc... had to put my hand baggage into the hold as Mrs Dunk had perfumes, etc!!
on the way back...
Dublin - Edinburgh.... not one checked in piece of baggage at all... it was all allowed on as hand luggage... when i queried this with the check-in desk and said "but i had to book it in on the way over" she replied "yeah thats true, but Ireland is a neutral country... we're not at war with anyone so we're not a target"
SO... she then told me that the strict security was only for flights leaving the UK to anywhere... but that the flights from Ireland to UK were being treated as normal.. as were flights from Ireland to Europe... (i think extra security was in place for all incoming flights to the US regardless of country where flight was taken)
Burtschips, Wash, etc... they all had hand luggage on them as well... we could take anything on board!!
hope this helps
Well I'm flying via frankfurt so it might be ok.

Coming back London to Dublin... everything was gone! Water was taken off me, my strawberry lipbalm, my boots had to come off (bear in mind I was comin back from a festival - they were filthy!) I really didn't mind though - nobody argued; Its not the most wise thing to do. And didn't take all that long from Stansted anyway.

SMELL YER MA!
no problem with any electrical stuff, so you can take ipod, disman, digi camera etc...
nothing liquid, cream, gel, deodorant, drinks, etc
nothing like scissors, clippers, or anything that cuts
no lighters
make sure your handbag is not HUGE
That is all I think. I'm not sure about umbrellas...
Still no liquids, though Dunk. I had to check in my hand luggage because I had perfume (which bought duty free!) and I didn't want to leave it there (not at £50 a bottle!)
Buru, my hand bag is about school bag size, that'll be alright, right?

yep, no problem I should think
try not to overstuff it just in case
Can you not take with you things you buy at the DutyFree? I'm thinking water, hand cream, stuff like that.
My friend flew back from Stanstead to Pisa and took on board water bought once past security...
cause when I was over there, no hassle at all. (well, if you don't count that flight of mine getting cancelled when I was trying to get home. )
or am I completely wrong?
lgt, yeh ya can, she bought perfume coming over but then when she was going back they made her check it in but she'd only bought it a couple of days earlier if that makes sense?

SMELL YER MA!
I brought my old school bag with me for the European Touring Bus... and had to check it in; the lady laughed at me when I said I intended to carry it on. In any case, there was deodorant and toothpaste in it, so I'd have had to check it in anyway.
Proud member of the European Touring Bus 2006!
I don't understand why they would make you leave it.. cause you're allowed to have laptops anyway.
no idea.
yup, clear as crystal!
I had a sort of schoolbag with me, it was not too big
so I could carry it with me
maybe she was a mean lady
Proud member of the European Touring Bus 2006!
Yeah she worried me when she put on her rubber gloves
Proud member of the European Touring Bus 2006!
really? even when she's flying from Ireland?!
Oh by the way Helen, don't put things up your arse either
or rubber lady might have a go at you (ask John)
yes... any kind of liquid you want... i had 2 bottles of lucozade, perfume, hair gel, vaseline lip balm, the lot... all in my hand luggage on the way back from Dublin to Edinburgh.... never once got asked or checked... it was ALL ok... that goes for everyone who was in my flight queue..
obviously it was nothing allowed leaving UK, but leaving Dublin was absolutely no problem at all
Flew from Heathrow last week and they were pulling people out of the queue to go through a trial full body scanner (luckily for me they only seemed to be pulling out men) but there was a sign saying if you refused to take part in the trial then you would be subjected to a full body search
nope... you are in the affirmitive
