he's a college kid. applebee's is upscale for him.
When I was in college, we always ate at Red Robin. The Keg was 'upscale'...

Red Robin is too expensive and the burgers are too small. The fries suck
When I was in college, a burger there was like $6. 2 burgers, 2 sodas, with a tip, the bill was under $20.
Their steak fries are awesome, and unlimited.
so, maybe I'm a little biased, they were a local burger joint here, and the food isn't the same since they got sold to corporate greed.

I haven't been there in ages because the past few times the food was awful. I agree, the bar has a good bloody mary but I'll still pass on that place if given the choice. Funny about the 2 for $20 thing, I didn't know but I'm not surprised either, I'll be sure to pass it on.

uh oh....8 of the 33 chicagoland locations are closing
I only ever went there when my acoustic duo played there. It was bizarre: one time we had a gig there, and there was a beer pong tournament happening behind us. Yes, at an Applebee's.
I'll tell you what: open bar and free food, plus a few hundred bucks to play....kinda made it worth our while to go there. Plus they put our band name up on the marquee outside which, at the time, was bad ass.
But other than that: the place sucks. Yes.

The one near me is pretty decent as well. I am a bit of a food snob and used to hate Applebees, but the one in my town isn't bad. Their boneless wings are some of the better ones out there...and I sample a LOT of boneless wings.

The fries are barely cooked now.... limp little fuckers... not that greasy... I never want more because they suck so hard
The chicken sandwich is legit... the one with avocado.
