Seeing him in may. Pretty excited.
This show, another show, a show here and a show there.
  • He played the ACL fest on the same day as Pearl Jam. I got to see him and then saw him strolling through the airport the next day with one of his daughters. I was probably the only one in the airport that knew who he was and now he is playing the Barclay Center in October. Funny how things have changed since 2009.

Hi all. I'm a new member to the Rodriguez 'fanclub'(not really, I mean figuratively. I don't know if there actually is a fanclub but you get what I mean)!! I watched the movie on my flight back from Oz last weekend & WOW! What a dude!! & how insane he didn't get popular(except in South Africa). I'm playing him on Spotify now to check him out some more. He played here in Auckland a couple of weeks ago & a friend went but I hadn't caught the buzz yet(+ had rather blown my concert budget for last summer already :lol: ). Anyway, I'm pleased to join the Rodriguez brigade & may he finally get recognition he deserves. :)

he was popular in oz. he even toured with midnight oil... which i find an interesting pairing to say the least. i still have a vinyl copy of cold fact.

So I hear of this doc via Oscar buzz/win but never think anything of it really. Then I see a FB post from Matthew Good the other day recommending SFSM, and I have some free time so I finally check it out. I'm watching the doc and as soon as the bass line of I Wonder starts, I immediately think Jack White Love Interruption, but I'm so taken by the doc/emotion I forget about it to enjoy the rest of the film...until I see Rodriguez wearing an East Street Records shirt. So I Google this and am immediately taken to a song I've already heard, but now I realize it's done with the girl from Love Interruption and literally everything is connected, same bass line, etc.

Great doc, great music, small world, obviously Jack White is a fan too.

And then I come here to search out if there was a thread on this film/music and lo and behold, I'm never let down. 8-)

Incredible. That moment when he walks out on stage for the first time to the bass line of "I Wonder" broke me. The power of a crowd cheering at a concert... amazing.

Anyone else notice he was wearing an Easy Street Records tshirt during an interview in the movie?

Just watched the documentary. Really Moving story, and the music sounds great. Will be listening to the albums over the coming days.

Can't believe how I never heard of him before.
  • Watched the film last night, brillaint documentary. However it has been noted that he did have some success in Australia and toured there in the late 70s and early 80s but that was left out of the film I guess to make the story seem a little more extrordinary than it already is. That aside his music is amazing and I think he's a genuine guy.

I have been trying to think of the name of this documentary for the last couple days. Guy in the record store told me about a month ago about the soundtrack and I almost picked up the vinyl. I watched "Soul Of America" recently and was really trying to remember this one. Can't wait to watch this documentary now!

We watched this movie last night. I had kind of put it off because it had been recommended to me twice by people for whom I have a lot of respect but whose musical tastes generally are a lot different than mine. So when we watched the film, I was both floored by how much I'm taken by Rodriguez' music and by how absolutely incredible his story is. I'm not a weepy kind of guy but there were scenes in this mystery/musical/bio/documentary that had me in tears. What an amazing story!

I too have recently seen this doc and was immediately floored by the music. I've seen it now about a half dozen times with different people each time and the response is almost always the same: How come we never heard any of this great music anywhere? Not the radio, record store, or even those crappy k-tel record compilations they sold on t.v. years ago. Better late then never I guess.

Rodriguez will be in New York the week before Pearl Jam is... he's playing Barclays too!
    10/9 - Barclays and 10/10 - Radio City

I saw him at the Orpheum in Los Angeles back in April. The music was great. It was definitely a straightforward concert. All about the music. Not a ton of stories or talking in between songs. He was playful with a woman in the front row though. She was "heckling" him. He kept saying to her "It's the drink talking, baby". His daughter walked him on and off the stage which made me wonder about his health, but once he started playing I no longer wondered. His voice sounds exactly like it does on the recordings. He closed out his set with Bob Dylan's "Like A Rolling Stone".

Honestly, it was just exciting to be in the audience celebrating that this person is experiencing a new chapter in his life at 70 years old. Life you guys...

Glad this thread popped back up. I hadn't listened to the soundtrack in a while. Good stuff.
