You are saying he revised the third bullet point and reinstated the lifetime protection?

"Former presidents and their spouses for their lifetimes, except when the spouse remarries. In 1997, Congressional legislation became effective limiting Secret Service protection to former presidents for a period of not more than 10 years from the date the former president leaves office"

For those who want armed guards in every school -

Many school districts, at least in Texas are going broke and have had to lay off teachers. Where is the money going to come from to hire trained, competent, and armed security for each school plus equipment? Aren't the republicans the one who usually want to cut spending? Plano ISD, which is just one of many Dallas suburbs, has over 70 schools. Is the NRA going to pay for this? Would you accept higher taxes to pay for this?

How shortsighted is it to think this is a bad idea when we live in a world with global terrorism? How juicy a target would an unprotected former president be? Seriously...get over it.

Because that is what the NRA is saying and now many republicans believe it! On my facebook, on news article comments, people keep spouting off that Obama is trying to ban all guns. They believe it somehow!

Yes, this past December, he reversed a 1997 law that limited the protection for former presidents and their non-remarried wives to 10 years after leaving office, and made it lifetime, like it was prior to 1997. I feel anyone willing to run this country deserves at least that much. Otherwise, maybe some nut case with their legally owned gun would have an easy go of it in a few years if they wanted to go after GWB.

It's not lifelong since neither George W. Bush nor President Obama have presently lived past the 10 years past their leaving office yet. In fact, this hasn't cost a cent yet, and may not.

another good question. will school have the same budget they have now to pay for these armed guards or will school boards have to make decision such as we may have to have fewer teachers so that we can afford to pay for the security?

I fail to see the racism.

I agree Paul there really is no racism there. I do however agree that naming any child in a video is not responsible and should not be allowed.

Just another question that I have asked many times. in the 2nd amendment is states that "A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.[8]" I am interested in the words "shall not be infringed." today we have laws that say who can buy guns and who can't i.e ex-cons can't legally get a gun. is that not an infringement?
I'd much rather see the "well regulated militia" addressed as a function of the 2nd amendment. It seems like with a ruling from scotus this little section gets tossed in favor what I see as a misguided action to man a virtual free for all on ownership of whatever type of weapon available with little to no oversite by anyone going forward, which is bullshit.

Join a fucking regulated militia and have at it. which to me means you will be fully registered with all weapons in your possession or you give up this right.

We all know this to be TRUE - had the Sandy Hook shooting happened in a minority urban area school WE as a NATION would not be seriously talking about gun control.

So now the NRA wants to defuse the issue by injecting racism into the equation.

The issue is about .223 ammo repeatedly fired from an AR-15 into the bodies of 4, 5, 6 and 7 year old children along with adults, at the velocity of point-blank range.

If now is not the time to talk about taking some type of preventive gun control action – WHEN!!!
i thought the assault rifle was kept in trunk of car as he elected to use handguns? is this not what the news has reported over & over again?

At first. Later, one of the docs doing the autopsies stated that all of the people he viewed died from multiple gunshots by a 'long gun"...meaning the assault rifle.
