Professor won’t back down from Newtown massacre conspiracy theory

A media professor at Florida Atlantic University who is questioning the Sandy Hook massacre has caused controversy with his conspiracy claims.

James Tracy, who writes a personal blog about conspiracy theories, believes the events that unfolded at Sandy Hook did not happen as reported.

The professor writes on his blog, Memory Hole, “While it sounds like an outrageous claim, one is left to inquire whether the Sandy Hook shooting ever took place—at least in the way law enforcement authorities and the nation’s news media have described.” He suggests that there were multiple shooters and that the number of dead is incorrect. The blog post was published on the Global Research site, where it caught the attention of the Web.

The professor, who is known for his conspiracy theories on 9/11 and the Oklahoma bombing, believes—as he claims on his blog and recently stated on a radio show—that trained “crisis actors” may have been employed by the Obama administration to shape public opinion on gun control.

The 47-year-old, who holds a Ph.D. from the University of Iowa in mass communication, wrote on his blog, “ As documents relating to the Sandy Hook shooting continue to be assessed and interpreted by independent researchers there is a growing awareness that the media coverage of the massacre of 26 children and adults was intended primarily for public consumption to further larger political ends.”

According to his faculty profile, the professor "teaches courses examining the relationship between commercial and alternative news media and socio-political issues and events." He also lists his recent work in “Censored 2013: Sourcebook for the Media Revolution. The Top Censored Stories and Media Analysis of 2011-2012."

When questioned about his theories by a local CBS12 news reporter, Tracy responded, "The whole country mourned about Sandy Hook, but yet again the investigation that journalistic institutions should have carried out never took place, in my opinion."

He added, "As a society we need to look at things more carefully. Perhaps we as a society have been conditioned to be duped."

His blog, with 222 followers, lays out his conspiracy theory in detail, suggesting that it was a training exercise in which actually nobody was killed. He writes, "To declare that the shooting 'never took place' is cause for intense opprobrium in most polite circles where, in familiar Orwellian fashion, the media-induced trance and dehistoricized will to believe maintain their hold."

Tracy’s employer has distanced itself from its faculty member’s remarks. Mary Jane Saunders, the president of Florida Atlantic University, said in a statement to Yahoo News that reads in part:
I am sure that many of you are aware of the recent comments by a Florida Atlantic University faculty member regarding the tragic events that occurred at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, on December 14. I want to make it clear that those views and opinions are not shared by Florida Atlantic University, and I am personally saddened by any media stories that have added to the pain felt by the victims’ families. FAU joins the entire nation and people around the world in feeling profound grief for the lives lost on that awful day.

Seems something similar to what Dave Mustaine said about the Aurora shooting. This is appearing and shaping up to be the year where guns will be the subject matter for the year.

This exactly. One side is right, the other side is wrong, and there are no limits to where some will go or what some will do to win. No compromise. If you disagree you are the enemy and you must be destroyed.

yeah i agree, but a few questions i still have that go unanswered:
did the shooter have his brothers ID? if so how was it obtained? was it old/expired?
what about the alleged purple van with nuns and etc reported by police?

again i dont agree in any way with the prof but i do think some good points are raised by conspiracy theorist. any btw whats wrong with asking questions nowadays anyway??

nobody else finds it odd that there was so much coverage of the massacre yet there are still so many unanswered questions?

i dont get caught up in conspiracies (i also do not believe the "official" reports of jfk and 911, so maybe i am a conspiracy theorist?) but im still left wondering about:

the brothers ID? (this smelled bad instantly)
who was running in the woods with camo on, detained and led away by police?
who were the two "proned" by a officer as described from the audio release?
who was in the van driving away (nuns)? were they detained? as described from the audio release
why no surveillance video? still photos?
why did authorities say the bodies would be left until sunday, then taken out overnight under the cover of darkness?
did lanza kill himself with a rifle or a handgun?

which i think would / could be answered pretty simply and end all of the conspiracy talk, very odd if you ask me.

    No.

    1) Most of those questions are irrelevant to folks not directly related to the incident
    2) Just because it's not public doesn't mean those closer to the investigation don't know

Why does it matter what weapon the murderer killed himself with? Do you REALLY care? And if so, why? (And these questions can be re-phrased and asked about 90% of what you asked).

Also, some of the questions you asked WERE answered. You are asking questions based on very early reports which proved to be incorrect. So, there is no answer because it didn't exist.
Sorry. The world doesn't work the way you tell it to.

I think much (not all, but much) of the confusion here was caused by rushed and shoddy early reporting.

    That said...

Why would there be surveillance video of an elementary school? No video or still pics of the crime scene and victims should ever be released.

And I don't know for sure, but I would guess the bodies were removed at night to prevent a media circus. If that is the case I think it was the right decision.

whats wrong with showing a still image of lanza entering the school? they said he shot through the front door? what was he carrying? what was he wearing? what time did he enter? i think there are simple questions, no?

i see your point with the media circus but the school and funerals were a circus so whats the difference between a body in a bag or in a coffin?

You are right, I hadn't put two and two together on the front door buzzer. There must be footage. Maybe it has all been confiscated by the police pending investigation? Although with the shooter dead I don't know what they would be investigating.

I can see the need for the victims and their families to have those questions addressed. I'm not sure we, as outsiders, have the right to demand answers on those particulars.

As to the circus, again - back to the families. It would break my heart and soul all over again and again to see images broadcast of the dead body (covered or not) of someone I love. Simple respect, maybe?

Having looked closely at as much of the details of the shooting as possible, we believe that there is sufficient evidence (primarily in the form of unanswered questions) to suspect that the full truth about the Sandy Hook massacre may not have been told and that a full public inquiry is therefore warranted. There are those who would say that the 'security' forces and agencies that are investigating this matter are under no obligation to reveal any further information to the public, but we beg to differ. The public have been repeatedly encouraged (directly and indirectly) to reflect on the massacre and consider its implications. But any public reflection on this event without the full facts will be a futile exercise. Everyone touched by this brutal event at the very least deserves to be informed of the plain facts of the case.

I don't believe a full public inquiry in this case is necessary or a good idea. Let the victims rest.

Why do we need answers immediately? Why can't we let investigators do what investigators do... investigate?
    ...
Remember Columbine? Remember how long it was before they released the cafeteria survellience pictures? It was months after the mass murders.
People are still trying to piece together all the little bits of information from the various crime scenes. They don't care if it make the news or not... they just want to reconstruct the events in a timeline that shows what actually happened... not what people wanted to happen. There is not going to be a criminal court case where the evidence is brought to public light in a public trial... as we are seeing in the current trial of the Aurora Theater murdering prick... because the Newtown murdering prick took care of that, too.
    ...
Don't worry, people... hopefully for you, the police will someday release full color, high definition pictures and video of the bullet riddled body of young Emily Parker laying in a pool of co-mingled blood of her teachers and classmates... to make you happy.
