    Good idea?
You could see which neighbors were on the dole and maybe help them?
Public info. I think a searchable database should be discussed.
EBT monies should be for staples.

now that i think about it, every time i verify medical benefits for people on illinois medicaid, their names ARE online if they are in the database. if they are not in the database, then they do not have medicaid. but that is a secure site used by medical providers though...

SECURE SITE being the operative words. there is plenty of uber private info on the internets but unless youre a julian assange type youre never gonna be able to get to it.

I'm actually not a rude person, and don't feel an overwhelming need to fire off personal attacks with those that disagree, even though I'd rather beat my head off the wall.

I'll let the anti's all have their circle jerk and they can all sit and agree on everything without dissent. I'm up for a debate but after being called about everything in the book from multiple people I realize that I'm only wasting my own time. After all nothing in life is more boring than when everyone agrees with you.

This country would be in much better shape if they followed the Constitution.

RA RA RA for the freedom of information.

Maybe the people that use the planned parenthood 1/2 billion bucks should be on a list too.

This is interesting actually. Though I don't feel the need to know who is on public assistance (and I have read through the thread and it most certainly does not infer they are poor) I also don't feel the need to know who owns legal firearms either. I really do not see a difference. Both are invasions of privacy. Some people cite the reason for public info as regards to firearms as public safety...well if my tax dollars help support someone on public assistance I should know how that money is spent I guess. If people want info one way they better be prepared for it from every direction.

calling someone heartless is not a hurtful name. based on most posts in this thread, they agreed with me because your rationale for suggesting that publishing the names of the poor is somehow equal to publishing the names of people who own ar least one lethal weapon and possibly more is ludicrous. they are not the same league, nor even the same sport. apples to oranges.

the way i read your thread is that the point of it is to shame those on welfare, which you have done at length on here. why would anyone assume this thread was going to have a different motive? i am sorry that people disagree with you.

and no i wasn't calling you a dick. i was talking about people in general, on the right, on facebook posting incendiary things, which for some reason your ideas seem to come straight from some of those facebook posts. perhpas you all read the same websites or listen to the same newsmedia or something, because it is always some talking point du jour that all of those on the right are talking about on any given day. today it was "we should publish the names of welfare recipients simply because some gun owners got published."

and as far as your last line, a sense of entitlement is learned. it is not genetic trait passed down from generation to generation. kind of like racism. people are not born hating other races, it is taught to them...

I'd say you're done with this because you know you're wrong and all you can do is keep stretching the truth and compare everything to guns And gun ownership.

If you were on welfare would you want the country to know about it?
If you were on welfare would you feel bad about it?
    Would you feel shame?

your posts echo the daily memes from the pages of the extreme right groups.

also, i don't see many posts agreeing with your original premise...

seriously, what good comes out of publishing the names of welfare recipients? aside from campaign fodder for the republicans next election cycle...

Neither welfare recipient info or gun registration info should be posted online. Someone commented that posting welfare recipients information is shaming them. I think posting information on gun owners is also trying to shame them and treating people who have broken no laws as criminals that need to be watched out for.

if i know that my neighbor has an arsenal then my kids will not be allowed over their house without supervision, and i will keep an eye on their kid to make sure that those guns do not end up at my house. i have the right to be aware of that to protect my kids.

  • Welfare OP now turns to oh surprise!another gun control Op. The common denominators; who should have to submit to public scrutiny with an underlying theme about public shaming.

The monitoring of our every move is just beginning. Drones are coming on, sensors are in the works -- tracking chips. ANY internet data-base out there can be mined by governments already; hackers & google etc..
China & Japan are currently (for the safety of their youth's minds) working on ways to control internet use. If we all just blindly accept any bit of what's already mind numbing, then soon, the internet won't be ours to use "freely" and soon, controlling entities will decide that for our own safety, the internet has just too much information on it and must now be controlled.

Why are we being so naive about all this monitoring?
Why are we so enthralled with the publicizing of data about one group or another?

You would allow your kids over to random houses in the neighborhood? You allow your kids over a house without supervision? What is this? 1980?

I don't think either should be published, but I find your rationalizations amusing.
Sorry. The world doesn't work the way you tell it to.

no, but i know how i was and i know how kids are. they sneak out. they might get into the guns at the other kid's house, etc.

you think they should not be published. i have no problem if gun owner's names are published. does not bother me at all.

you choose to own a firearm, i have the right to know about it. concealed permits are public records.

You can ask your neighbor. If you know them well enough to have your kids over it shouldn't be a big deal. You can usually tell if people are responsible. The neighbor doesn't deserve to have his privacy violated.

  • I don't believe that you should be posting the names and addresses of welfare recipients online, just as I think that it was inappropriate for that google map of registered gun owners to be posted for public viewing. That being said, I'm far more terrified of a man with a gun than I am of a man with a welfare cheque and America has both in spades. Far too many law abiding gun owners are simply criminals in waiting.

Wow! You can say that about anyone though. There are also many law abiding gun owners who never become criminals.
