It is various actions over time that lead a country to that point. Putin shuts down the media in Russia. Liberals here want to shut down Fox News. We'll see where the country goes in the next 2-3 decades.

Who wants to shut down Fox News? Is that true, or did you just make that up?

    a bailout. it's failed policy.

Pretty soon the US will be asking for bailouts too, $16T in debt is not sustainable.

For the record and since you obviously are about as bright as Rand Paul (who whined about being "detained" for a whopping 40 seconds at an airport), I wasn't actually arrested for taking a shit on a car. There are laws in place to protect people... for instance, if you're driving an unsafe car, it makes the roads dangerous for us all. THAT is why you have to register your car. And that's done by the states... "a state law."

Yep, you are right. However it falls under local and state laws that you have to stop. It's the 10th Amendment. Read the document.

Car registration is done at the state level too.

    Senator Dianne Feinstein,

I will not register my weapons should this bill be passed, as I do not believe it is the government's right to know what I own. Nor do I think it prudent to tell you what I own so that it may be taken from me by a group of people who enjoy armed protection yet decry me having the same a crime. You ma'am have overstepped a line that is not your domain. I am a Marine Corps Veteran of 8 years, and I will not have some woman who proclaims the evil of an inanimate object, yet carries one, tell me I may not have one.

I am not your subject. I am the man who keeps you free. I am not your servant. I am the person whom you serve. I am not your peasant. I am the flesh and blood of America.
I am the man who fought for my country. I am the man who learned. I am an American. You will not tell me that I must register my semi-automatic AR-15 because of the actions of some evil man.

I will not be disarmed to suit the fear that has been established by the media and your misinformation campaign against the American public.

So let's get this straight; local laws and regulations are okay but federal regulations are a form of oppression? Not sure I understand that one. Isn't that why you have representative governments at the local, state and federal levels?

Have you ever read the Constitution? It was written to limit the powers of the federal government so that they (we) wouldn't have a repeat of living under a tyrannical King. It is specifically limited to the enumerations in Art I Sec VIII. Everyone that wants a huge federal government to control your every thought and move why don't you go live in prison? You'll get ALL of your big government that knows EVERYTHING about you and EVERYTHING you do.

It was required reading in law school (yes, even Canadians look at US Constitutional law).

I do find it fascinating that you would hold some parts of the constitution to the letter while leaving others wide open to the broadest interpretation insofar as it serves your own interests. Apparently Article I is to be held to the strictest interpretation whereas the second amendment should allow for the purchase and private ownership of whatever firearms a private citizen deems appropriate unfettered by government intrusion. I just don't get it.

I don't have to go through an annual inspection when it comes time to register my car. Since the plates have to be renewed yearly I'd expect a free inspection. I might not be driving a safe car. Oh my, I need my government to save me!!!!

Many states allow for the ownership of full-auto weapons. Have you heard of any one killed by a helicopter flying around with a mini-gun blasting people away?

The fear of these weapons is unfounded.

But go ahead and pass more laws, that'll save us for sure.

A "free" inspection? You want me to come wipe your butt too?

A "free" inspection wouldn't be free... there are no volunteers inspecting cars.

So that has to be paid for. Considering how much you whine about taxes, I'm willing to bet you won't want to pay taxes for it AND why should anyone who doesn't OWN a car have to pay to inspect yours? They don't. You pay for it because you own a car.

And you know that if you didn't own a car and were taxed so some entitled "anti-tax" cry baby could have a "free" inspection, you'd be running through the streets shrieking about TYRANNY!!!!!!

I might not be driving a safe car. Oh my, I need my government to save me!!!!

Well no. I think the world would be a much better place if you drove head-on into the truck in front of you because your brakes failed. But it might be ME and MY family you hit. So the government is protecting me from YOU and your cheap-ass crybaby "i don't wanna pay for things I want them free and I don't wanna pay taxes mommy" car that has brakes that don't work.

My elected officials have all received emails urging them to Ban all guns, with the exception of rifles/shotguns used for, and with a permit to, hunt. Also, handguns shall be allowed, to be used for protection only with a valid license to conceal. All guns shall be sold with a lock-box to be used when not carrying said gun. All licenses shall be renewed yearly with extensive background checks every time, and will be revoked should the owner be deemed unable to safely own said gun by an independent panel, which will be paid for with license fees.

You aren't the first person this week that thinks the world would be better off without me and my ideas, however I'll stick around awhile thanksverymuch. Besides, I need to still have kids so when Libertarians finally take over we can repopulate after the crash. Someday people will realize that the two party system is a failure.

My desire is for no guns at all. This is my compromise.

See... and this is why this whole last month has been nothing short of disgraceful narcissism for the side resistant to the idea of gun legislation. At the moment, from what we can see on the outside looking in... a bunch of entitled, smug, and narrow-minded opinionists think it is their right to bear whatever arms they desire because it was written that way 300 years ago.

The most well-versed people on this forum have exercised wisdom and knowledge in painfully pointing out the need for reform. As much as they would prefer an absolute ban... they realize that asking for such would be too difficult for some to endure. In light of horrific recent events, the side demanding some level of reform has examined statistics, models that work for other countries, and most importantly... common sense to come to their conclusions. Despite the good intentions of the founding fathers... the environment has changed and correspondingly... adaptation is demanded.

The side opposed to legislation stubbornly refuses to budge an inch regarding reform of any kind. They selfishly insist on preserving the way of life they enjoy- even if that means innocents die. In a hypothetical scenario, two on this forum basically said they would insist on the right to own their really awesome guns even if forfeiting them would guarantee the Sandy Hook tragedy would be averted.

I said it earlier... this is why democracies can suck: even a buffoon gets the opportunity to exercise their voice. Not having the capacity to fully understand the impact of their voice and choice, some have the potential to inhibit the progress of a society employing a democracy and, as a result, leave the wiser people in a situation that must be so damn frustrating.
