You mean... our Kindergartens would not be safer if every kindergarten teacher in America kept a loaded weapon in the classroom... like our NRA and the Wacky Witch of the West assures us of?

Antigunners need to stop with the gun shame it is ridiculous.
If you own a gun own proud and responsibly.
That is not who killed those children.

I know I wish there had been a gun in the kindergarden class to stop the killer
and when I read this I think yeah the employees probably feel safer.

I feel safer, I am safer, when I see armed security wherever I am.
We have them at the liquor store, the mall, resource officers in schools,
bars... I saw one at the local library. I mean if they are needed great and no one
should pass judgement on that. Maybe they live somewhere there is not the crime
we have, it is because of incidents that protection is given. Hindsight 20/20.
Best be prepared to save a life.

Why "own proud"? I don't get that.

I personally feel sketched out when surrounded by people with guns. And I sure as hell don't trust security guards to use them responsibly. There is nothing about security guards that make be think they are going to be brave, responsible, or even thinking of the public's safety first. They are basically just random people getting paid poor wages (and some of them have weird agro issues/delusions of gradeur, which is what draws some of them to the job in the first place). I personally can't think of a single incident where an armed security guard saved people, actually... The only incident I can think of involving armed security guards is when that bank/ATM guard in Alberta used his weapon to murder 2 or 3 of his co-workers (all of whom were also armed with guns; no one even got a shot off if memory serves), and ran off injury-free with $350K.

I can see cops giving a sense of security and trainned professional guards, like the Armored Car drivers and bank guards. And uniformed National Guardsmen.
Minimum wage Mall Cops with cop wannabee attitudes... not so much. They over-react with the pepperspray... what are they gonna do with the real guns?
And definately NOT random yahoo needle dick civilian douchebags with a hero complex running around. The ones that will open fire on jaywalkers and litterbugs with a nusery school in their line of fire... no thanx.

The guy I mentioned, and his victims, were the trained armored car drivers... One of them killed the rest, and the rest never managed to defend themselves with their weapons.... It just made me wonder.... Of course, armored car guards HAVE to be armed because of their very specific job, but fuck, them being armed that day did nothing but horrible things.

Proud speaks for itself as do those shaming gun owners.
Proud is to be prepared to save another life if necessary.
The reason responsible gun owners own ...
    for protection.

I guess we don't know the same security and resource officers.
I must have ended up with the keepers ;)

I don't carry but I know when I am in certain public places
there are those carrying illegal guns. Unlicensed, untrained, irresponsible
    and often predatory.

I feel better knowing there is a trained legal gun in the midst
with big backup at a moments notice. They are risking their lives to keep mine safe.
Let's never discount that. Certainly not a job you or I would do.
    Kudos to them.

Armored car drivers are just a tiny step up from mall guards.

About 10 years ago, I was working a couple of part time jobs, and a co-worker applied somewhere as an armored car driver. At the time, they made like $12 an hour. Let me get this straight, you want me to protect hundreds of thousands (sometimes millions), possibly with my life, for $12 an hour?

Where I work now, we use an armored truck service for our deposits/cash deliveries... Half of them seem pretty sketchy.

I am speaking of trained security. Often retired or off duty police.
Resource Officers in the schools specially trained to work in that atmosphere
    and to be mentors.

I would not judge negatively as some do though of mall security. Or of the trained concerned
citizen that just might save you or I one day. Sure are there some but not the rule.
Not in my opinion. My nephew worked his way through school protecting others
in security. He was trained to use a gun. And no he was not a wanna be.

    The highlighted ...
do you have some examples of the yahoo needle dick civilian douchebags with a hero complex
    running around.

I googled and couldn't find the stories you speak of. Something weird came up.

I'm not sure where you got the idea that all responsible legal gun owners own guns for protection, and that this is their main or only motivation. That is very far from the truth. If it were true, the term "gun enthusiast" wouldn't exist.

FYI, a school police liaison/resource officer is not anywhere near the same as an armed guard at a school. I think you might not be clear on what people are talking about when they say "armed security guards in schools."

I personally can't think of any stories off the top of my head where some citizen who was packing saved the day anywhere. I'm sure it happens once in a while, but I'm pretty sure it does not happen often enough for anyone to feel an extra sense of security by imagining that random people around them might be concealing a legal weapon.

As for being... what? An armed security guard? And that not being a job that I would do... Speak for yourself. If I lost my job and couldn't find another one that pays a decent salary and has good benefits, I certainly would not discount getting some security gig until I was back on my feet, and in the hopes that an armed position gave marginally higher pay, I'd take that one.... I would just hope that no one was naive enough to expect me to save their lives in a major gun attack, because I'd be minimally trained and, like 99% of others in the profession, poorly equipped or prepared to save anyone other than myself!
