Who are we to think......

Who are we to think that we can just print and spend as we see fit? Many nations out there are tied to the dollar wheter they like it or not. If we fall many nations will fall with us like a dominoe effect. Who are we to just bail out, print and spend? Isnt it selfish to just act like we do when printing and spending? When we de-value the dollar, doesnt that affect everyone else? How can other nations be FOR America spending more than it brings in? How could we just ignore the consequences of spending? I dont see any complaints on here from people of other nations regarding our spending habits. What is going on?

If you had 196 people in a room, which represents the nations of this world, the guy representing the USA would look like The Joker! Shouldnt the entire world be yelling at Obama and his spending practices?

Isnt it in the best interest of the entire world to preserve the dollar and the US economy? If not, then step up in public and say it! I want to see all the nations who are FOR the destruction or de-valuation of the dollar.

So shouldnt there be a worldwide summit regarding fiscal policy right now? We are kicking the can down the road and history tells us that the longer we do that, the worse the end result will be.

So where is the condemnation for us living over our means? Where is the public outcry for our spending policies?

  • I'm not an economist, nor do I profess to have a strong understanding of this topic but it seems to me that your country has a spending problem coupled with a revenue problem. On one hand your government has made no effort to quell its unchecked spending while at the same time it refuses to raise taxes in spite of having an absolutely insane debt that now seems all but incurable. The way your country has developed I would guess it's only a matter of time before you fall into economic ruin. At least your leaders can smile as they will likely take Canada, and most of Europe with them.

I imagine that a combination of spending cuts and tax increases are necessary to curb the downward spiral but I just don't see anything meaningful happening. Both the Republicans and the Democrats are big spenders (just in different areas) and the Republicans are so anti-tax that I can't imagine them supporting any form of tax increase, even if it is simply to lighten your fiscal burden. At the end of the day, any solutions from hereon out will simply be bandaids which will do little to nothing.

Your ship will sink (along with many others) and your leaders will still be pointing fingers.

good analysis here! I appreciate that. So are we to sit on the sidelines? Can we point the finger to ourselves too? How can we change it? I thought the Tea Party had a good platform, however it came at a time when there was a black president and it was VERY unpopular to oppose him and his new agenda! If his agenda is print and spend, and its not ok to criticize him, then we must wait until the next president who might be white or conservative, then we can get back to criticizing the Executive Branch!

I'm always disheartened by the fact that your congress is so divided. It's become such a lame duck in the past twenty or so years and no amount of pushing or shoving from the outside is going to change that. Moreover, it seems that most grass roots movements are quickly subverted by special interests, the media and other forces negating their impact. The 99% movement and the Tea Party are fundamentally different groups but both were quickly dismantled by the US media. This isn't that hard to do when grassroots groups often attract fringe personalities and individuals who often clash with the mainstream.

I hate to say it, but I suspect that a severe recession or even economic depression is probably going to be the only catalyst large enough to get people to turn off their televisions, computers or phones and pay attention to the problem at hand.

They'll pay attention by asking the government to fix it, which will give the government even more control.

The US federal government is a joke. President, house, senate are all TERRIBLE at their jobs.

Vote out the incumbents until it changes.
  • I have a great feeling that if the Tea Party heightened with a white president, it would have taken much more of a stronghold in our political system! I dont see any issues with the Tea Party Platform itself! The media has ruined it! Its a shame!

If you let the media define you and your party.....then you are NUTS! The Democratic Party is no longer the "Once Great" party of JFK and even BILL CLINTON! SO much has changed!

welcome to the capitalist world my friend. the whole damn thing runs on credit... ergo beyond its means... and every person who has a mortgage or has a credit card bill or an outstanding loan is a part of the problem cause theyre all living beyond their means... thats the way the system works... its about desire and an unquenchable thirst for commodities... and im not just talking about the US... so what do you want to hear from us??? the rest of the world cant preserve the almighty US dollar.. you all have got to do that yourselves. you all need to figure out your budget, not us. the US put itself in this position... it wanted primacy both militarily and economically.. well guess what? you got it. and now youre reaping what you sow.. unfortunately with the global economy as it is now, the US isnt gonna be the only casualty of any collapse. but you know what??? just between me and you i am waiting for the day when the capitalist system collapses.. perhaps then we can figure out a more equitable way to run the world. .. and thats something i am totally up for cause capitalism isnt the only way... its not even the best way.

Humans will ruin anything! Capitalism isnt the problem....Capitalists are part of the problem! Socialism is a failure! The American Experiment gave humans the best chance they ever had. It gave us a chance to create wealth from nothing. Innovation is a God-given talent and Capitalism brings out the best in The People with our competitive nature. The USA is both Capitalist and Socialist, %60-%40. The perfect blend would be %80-%20 with a balanced budget. If we did that, we would generate enought wealth to sustain ourselves and complement 1/2 of the world at the same time. It is broken cause we have a TAX AND SPEND president. Get me in there, and Ill save the world!

Let me preface what I am about to ask by qualifying myself as a terrible economist.

But would you need to print more currency if so much of it already in print wasn't sitting in one or two bank accounts? Don't you have a few residents that are essentially hoarding all the dollars? Tell them to go spend it or... better yet... share it!

I like your de-valued dollar. I get to come down from Canada and live like a big shot. I used to come down when my dollar was worth 60 cents. It's much better now!

Its nice to be protected by the USA isnt it? You guys can just worry about your economy and infrastructure. Dont worry....we got your back! Im sure all of your policies are shaped around the notion that the largest best army in the world is all around you and your BEST FRIEND! That certainty helps you save money and time therefore helping your country be stronger within! I havent seen your response yet on the Canada founding thread!

Man you are ridiculous. Come off your high horse, seriously. You don't protect us. We have no enemies.

I wouldn't waste my time in the 'Canada' thread. What is the point of it? Even if there was a point... you are not truly interested in engaging in any form of real discussion: you have shown you like to do a lot of talking, but not a lot of listening.

And you missed the real point of my post taking offence to my mild humour: your country has wealth... but you let it sit in 1% of the population's bank accounts. See what I mean about not 'listening'?

I have a great feeling that if the Tea Party heightened with a white president, it would have taken much more of a stronghold in our political system! I dont see any issues with the Tea Party Platform itself! The media has ruined it! Its a shame!

The Tea Party would have never existed with a white President.

Have you ever attended a Tea Party? I make it a point to study something very much before either judging or taking their side. I went to 8 tea parties to understand the entire movement. It began under President Bush! I hate to burst your bubble! Began under TARP with BUSH! The whole platform is based on the principle of our govt. should only spend, what it brings in. Its that simple. If you take that philosophy and apply it to reality with economics and fiscal policy, then you have a conservative ideology that the media loves to pick apart and demonize. If you can take the media out of the equation, and the the President is black, the entire platform makes sense and MOST of the American people would actually support it.

Do you have the power to take media out of the equation? I bet not!

I know you would, however the Tea Party began with Tarp which was very close to Obama's election win! It takes time for a million person march on DC to materialize! Sorry it was on Obama's watch! Its not about race....its about principles! You should read up on the platform and apply it in a common sensical manner.

So I can expect evidence that the Tea Party in its current iteration began under President Bush, that it was not a knee-jerk panic reaction by a largely white segment of the GOP base to the election of this country's first black President?

It began under President Bush! I hate to burst your bubble! Began under TARP with BUSH! The whole platform is based on the principle of our govt. should only spend, what it brings in. Its that simple. If you take that philosophy and apply it to reality with economics and fiscal policy, then you have a conservative ideology that the media loves to pick apart and demonize. If you can take the media out of the equation, and the the President is black, the entire platform makes sense and MOST of the American people would actually support it.

I would welcome any evidence that the Tea Party, in the form we saw under President Obama, began under President Bush.
I know you would, however the Tea Party began with Tarp which was very close to Obama's election win! It takes time for a million person march on DC to materialize! Sorry it was on Obama's watch! Its not about race....its about principles! You should read up on the platform and apply it in a common sensical manner.
So I can expect evidence that the Tea Party in its current iteration began under President Bush, that it was not a knee-jerk panic reaction by a largely white segment of the GOP base to the election of this country's first black President?
your words have a secret agenda there....notice it? Any movement takes time to materialize in "its current iteration". The Tea Party began as an idea under Bush as a response to TARP! Got it yet? Or is this pill too hard to swallow? It began about the same time Hillary Clinton created the BIRTHER MOVEMENT! Got it?

Look man this babble is really getting old. What media pray tell do I watch? Enlighten me. What is it you think I am not studying, I'm judging a group by its actions. You seem to know so much about what I watch and what info I'm privy to.

Please come back with answers to the above questions, as opposed to more attempts at deflection.
  • One has to be there or attend 3-8 events for them to understand the true meaning and goal of a movement!

How many Tea Parties have you attended?

Exactly....so how can you judge? You should be smart and know the media's agenda is to thwart you and the image of the Tea Party, therefore, if you are smart....you would then attend a few to see for yourself!

    Thats smart!

I have relatives in Staunton, Virgina, visited them around Christmas time 2 years ago, went to a meeting. Funny that, you talking about judging.

And that's your opinion. My opinion is that the Tea Party is raked with people who freely allow others do their thinking for them, bigots and racists who try and mask their ignorance by exclaiming they have a mandate. This "take our country back" nonsense is nearing it's end, the American people have spoken and shown these kooks that their mandate no longer represents that of the normal, decent, hardworking american.

It is called fringe politics for a reason.

Oh and what do I care if you grew up a bloody democrat? How does that even factor in to what we've been talking about?
