It's sad and very hypocritical. Foreign countries sit around bashing the US and the protection it affords them but when shit hits the fan we are the first place they look.

You did read the article correct? Even with all of it's misleading statements? :fp:
You are right. I should have put more thought in to it. I am sorry.

I find it humorous that when the US has a natural disaster we have to parade out a bunch of bands and singers to try and raise money from our own citizens and the rest of the World for help but when other countries have a natural disaster the first country they look to for "humanitarian" help is the US. I remember just last year commercials running in this country to help out Japan with relief for what happened to them. I wonder how many commercials have been running in Japan for us?

As generous as the US has been regarding some events throughout the world... I think it is fair to say that the US spends a great deal of money nurturing and shaping international relations so that when they venture forth with 'questionable' foreign policies... strategic alliances- having been bought and established- offer little protest.

There's more than meets the eye. As much goodwill as there might be... there's also other motivation. Let's at least acknowledge that.

I would agree there's motivation. Just wish the countries that are actually shrouded by the comfrt they have because of the US would pay back.

This was broadcast around the world, so I imagine many from other countries have reciprocated on the charity front; haven't yet read anything about the funds raised though.

Couple things about the concert itself - I didn't catch the bit of McCartney with Nirvana except for a snippet on the news this morning. Was it really as bad as it sounded? Voice-wise, that is...

Also, I may have been high while watching portions (OK, I WAS high  ), but did anyone else think the dude singing next to Roger Waters looked alarmingly like a poor-man's Ed? I found it hilarious.

And Comfortably Numb was gorgeous! Really nice to hear/see those two together.

I flipped through every channel, and could not find it on TV! Wtf?? I know it was on, but... maybe my cable company fucked up the listings or something.
Hope the whole thing is available on YouTube or something.

Well, I remember when Katrina happened, Mexico sent mobile kitchens, medical units and several military medics to New Orleans (in addition to some cash donations trough the red cross).... and I still remember americans on TV, and on this very same forum, mocking that help. Saying stuff like they wouldn't eat in those kitchens even if they served the last meals on earth or that they would get all kinds of medieval diseases from eating the food and drinking the water, or that it was just an excuse to transport illegal immigrants or that the money surely came from drug lords... you get the idea...

I'm not sure now what was the point of my reply... but I think it's interesting to say that nobody ever helps the US when a natural disaster happens. Especially because it's not true. It's so not true that you even had the "opportunity" to mock those you gave you help and support, as small as it might have been (and no, I'm not personally talking about the OP).
