It is now just called Tuesday in the US.

Very sad.

Even Santa hit the deck.

"I was by Santa Claus in front of Macy's and we heard 'pow pow pow.' People screamed and ran. I saw Santa drop to the floor," but he was not injured, Schwab said.

Are both of you serious or only one of you? The only reference to an "automatic" weapon was Canzano quoting what he heard someone else say, they make a clear reference to "semi-automatic" in other parts of the article. Canzano's a sports columnist and doesn't seem like much of a gun guy to me.

The general public confuses the term 'automatic' and 'semi-automatic' often. I don't think it's because of lies from the anti-gun crowd. When you think about it, semi-automatic doesn't really make sense, kind of like clipless pedals.

Well I think we all know the reason for this. If more people were to carry more guns then the shooter would never have thought about doing that. ;)

is that not the reasoning from the last shoot out. If more people did carry guns then the shooter would not have been able to kill as many people as he did.

i really don't think it's the guns ... i think this is cultural ... historically - the country is simply a violent nation where problems are solved through force rather than diplomacy ... it's culturally inherent that if someone has a beef - that the resolution will be in some violent act ...

    ITS ALL BUSH'S FAULT!!!! :!: :!: :!: :!: :!:

to some extent...im sure he has some sort of military background, maybe shipped off to some middle eastern desert away from his job, wife and kids, forced to fight some needless war of choice, maybe raped and killed a few "terrorists" then came home 3 years ago to no family, no job and got hooked on the pts drugs and couldnt take it no more.

Perhaps Americans should just come to accept the fact that if we are not going to do anything to address the issue of guns on our streets, we are going to have to live with the consequences of our inactions. That being, crazy fucks flipping the switch and shooting up the place becoming an acceptable side effect.
Weren't there other Mall Shootings around Christmas in the past? I don't know... maybe we can make it part of our Chirstmas celebrations.

my question is (and maybe we have to look back into our history a bit) did the u.s. have mass shootings back in the 1700s & the 1800s? i am curious about this. we have been able to aquire firearms since this country was stolen then rebirthed. so did anyone ever go into a theater back in the day and do random shootings because they were having a shitty life?

anyone ever blow themselves up in a crowd back in the day?

when did all this start up?

    And another tragic story...
I saw one the other day too -- thought about posting it here, but realized its all the same shit...anyways, a few days ago a father and his seven year old son went to try to sell their guns. The store woldnt buy them, so the father carefully loaded the rifle in the back seat, got his seven year old in his truck, and put his pistol in the center console. He forgot a single bullet was in the chamber and the gun went off and shot his seven year old through the chest. The boy died. Its just not worth it.

Tragic story but as about as irresponsible as a parent who gets in an accident and kills their child while drinking and driving.

I agree that this is a sad story and also a story about a really bad mistake. My question for people is why do people feel the need to have guns in their cars?

Speaking as an outside to the USA, i find it so weird how at one point Americans seem so brave but yet they seem fearful of so many things.

Living in canada i have never felt the need to buy a gun so what makes me different than others? I also have lived in some of the very bad parts of canada.

ok the shooting is over, the people are dead, now lets move on to forensically psycho analyze why the shooter did it and report on the heroics at nauseam

    1. it's cultural ... violence begets violence ... the nation has historically addressed issues of conflict through violence ...

    2. the gun lobby ha successfully associated access to guns as being the equivalent to access to clean water ... and that there isn't too much more un-american than banning guns ... because once you ban guns - the next thing to happen is you'll lose all your freedoms and communist soviet union will be reborn ...

These are far more interesting questions than most that are asked in these gun threads. Sadly I've no answers.

I'm sure 99% of nations as defined in the modern era don't have some violence in their history and/or founding. I'm just sure of it. ( for clarity)

I don't either...but it made me think of Deadwood (the old HBO series) and how most everyone those days had a gun. Hell, Wild Bill Hickok was shot over a poker game. I'm sure shit like that went down a lot, but the means of getting that information out to the rest of the world wasn't as easily facilitated as it is now.
  • I'm glad Chadwick's question came back on this thread. And FYI, when I posted about the bow & arrow killings, that wasn't a gun so I hope this thread continues along the lines about wanton killing -- not pro-gun versus gun control.
Possibly, just short of the past few centuries, land owning barons, soldiers of the kings, royalty etc...had little opposition to killing serfs, slaves etc... whereas, if a commoner killed another, that other was someone's servant or property and they risked their own life in doing so. Reins were tight. Of course there were plenty of ruling elite sanctioned wars where rape pillage and plunder were commonplace so I'd say the kind of ilk we now call murderers --- were quite at home there or in gladiator arenas etc...
Now, (200 year snapshot) laws & courts sprang up and nobody is supposed to easily get away with killing another so my sumnation would be this: base animal behavior has been with us all along.
However, the breakdown of family, as well as the immersion of so much violent video games etc...to our youth's minds, are 2 relatively new alteration's in the human experiment proven to come with horrific consequences. Two things we must acknowledge and correct.
Why the hell isn't my avatar working????????????????????????????????
