Small review of the 4-LP Siamese Dream Reissue:

    Packaging(10/10)
High quality material with fantastically detailed artwork. All 4 lp covers come with slip covers, and also artistic backing supports to help keep the album covers in tact.

The hard case that houses the Lp's and Booklets is nice and solid.

    Booklets(10/10)
Two high quality booklets come inside the case.
First is the Lyric booklet, pretty much the same as the original release.

The second is a new addition that contains a ton of new artwork featured on high quality glossy paper. There is a foreward and then a individual breakdown of every song on the record by Corgan. It's a interesting read. He sheds light on the background, recording of each song and in some cases shares insight on struggles within the band at the time.

    Audio(9.5/10)
Aside from the distortion found in 'Zero', the whole release sounds great. Here are the highlight sounding songs for me:

    Tonight, Tonight
    JellyBelly
    Here is No Why
    Love
    Cupid De Locke
    Porcelina......
    Bodies
    Thirty-Three
    1979
    X.Y.U. - chaotic beauty
    We Only Come at Night
And so you see, I have come to doubt
All that I once held as true
    I stand alone without beliefs
The only truth I know is you.

So you're saying it's worth it? I'm debating on spending $80 for this.

Depends how big a fan you are of this record. If you love the album and want it on vinyl then I would absolutely pick it up.

Ok, I bought this yesterday at a local record shop, I paid $78. I read on Amazon that the quality of this reissue has not been good. In fact, so many complaints that Amazon pulled the record. Unfortunately, my copy has some of the same issues reported on Amazon. On the first record, the song Zero sounds terrible, lots of crackle and skips. Also, the song To Forgive on side two skips frequently. On the second record the song Love skips all over the place. Now all the records look pristine, no marks or scratches. I just think these are bad pressings. Too bad, because I really wanted this album on vinyl. I'll return it tomorrow.

Anybody have some of these same issues???

  • Opened my copy on Christmas. I think it's one of the best albums I own. The artwork is amazing, and I love the notes by billy on the recording process. Not one issue with any of my records. All sound perfect. Very very pleased with this box set.

The only issue I have with my copy is the Zero distortion.

  • This boxset is incredible - all the extras are amazing. They took special care to polish up the demos/extras. They stand up well sonically to the rest of the boxset.

I am also horrified to see that Mellon Collie is now $66 on Amazon.ca. That is OUTRAGEOUS! I don't understand how they feel justified in making this album so expensive. I see no reason for it at all.

I know! I don't know who priced this thing, but whoever it was is an asshole... So it was probably Billy Corgan. :P
