Every Republican U.S president in my lifetime has been an asshole.
Reagan, the two Bush's.

On the other hand Clinton and Obama are great human beings.
So glad Romney didn't win.

We all make mistakes, that was a personal matter not a world matter.
It didn't start wars now did it?

A boss an an intern at the office is not a personal matter. Neither is lying to a jury.

I respectfully disagree with pretty much your whole post.

Here is my voting record (and reasoning):
Eisenhower - Too young to vote
Kennedy - Too young to vote
    Johnson - After Kennedy assassination.
Johnson - Too young to vote
    Nixon- Too young to vote
    Nixon- Too young to vote
Ford - No one voted for Ford... or Rockerfeller
Carter - Voted for Carter because the whole Nixon/Ford/Watergate thing.
Reagan - Voted for Reagan because Carter was weak on foriegn policy
Reagan - Voted for Reagan because of Cold War tensions with the Soviet Union.
G.H.W.Bush - Voted for Bush because... come on, Dukakis?
Clinton - Voted for Bush because the economy was not/is not the president's will.
Clinton - Voted for Clinton because... come on, Dole? And we were doing pretty good.
G.W.Bush - Voted for Gore because Bush's disrespective treatement of McCain in the primaries and the Bush/Christian Coalition alliance.
G.W.Bush - Voted for Kerry because of Iraq.
Obama - Voted for Obama because... come on, Palin?
Obama - Voted for Obama because we didn't crash and burn... despite Republicans in the Houses efforts to make us crash.

I thought Carter was excellent as well. He wasn't perfect, but he had the integrity to tell the truth. Referring to Carter's 1979 "malaise speech" writer Andrew Bacevich said this:

"It's a very powerful speech, I think, because President Carter says in that speech, oil, our dependence on oil, poses a looming threat to the country. If we act now, we may be able to fix this problem."

No one wanted to hear that news. And this:

"He had a profound understanding of the dilemma facing the country in the post Vietnam period. And of course, he was completely hooted, derided, disregarded."

Carters honesty probably had a lot to do with him not getting re-elected but at least he had the guts to tell it like it is.

You are one old fart.....what??? No....come on, Mondale?

Another weakness of Carter was that he had a Democratic Congress and Senate but could not get shit done either domestically or in foreign policy.....and if you don't think that the Iranian hostage thing was that big of a deal....you did not live through it.

Well, Im not American, so who am I to judge? ;) no voting record to review. Nixon resigned days before I was born. Imagine a poor fetus forced to listen to all that bullshit? In fairness - our prime minister, who was only a couple years removed from tanks in the streets and martial law, was busy sabotaging the government in order to win a majority, and begin a seriously divisive period in our history. I never stood a chance; born a cynic ;)

So by what standards are we judging these guys?

Is it by "I'd have a beer with him" standards?...If so, I have no idea. Inever met any of them, and I think pretty much every person in a position that requires they try too hard to please everyone, comes across as a bit of an asshole...so I have no idea who I'd judge as a good guy to drink with until I actually got them to drop the public persona. Even then, I suspect I'd stick with the 'asshole' judgment for all of them.

If it's by, oh say, Nuremburg or Tokyo trial standards?.....then what would be a fair judgment?

Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of Clinton, but he's kind of a dick... Monica?

    What about Monica?

So he was a 50-ish man with a stressful job, a wife who was more focused on career and some sweet, innocent, horny 21 year-old girl is throwing herself at him. He has a mostly-meaningless fling with her and then after a season of poison, redeems himself, wins back his wife, becomes one of the most effective humanitarians and social change advocates AND becomes a vegan.

If the one thing you can point to that makes him a dick happened 18 years ago... I'm gonna say he redeemed himself when he got those two journalists out of North Korea. Let's see ANY former Republican president even give enough of a shit to bother trying, let alone succeed.

    And I'm not kidding.

Kim Jong Il was the most evil dictator in the world who was getting a big kick out of imprisoning two young American girls. You think that either of those Bush fuckers, Ronald Reagan, Richard Nixon or Gerald Ford would have tried/succeeded?

Because if you think that, you're wrong.

I have to agree with you, Prince. The guy succumbs to an eager intern ready to pleasure him. If that is the worst of his crimes... well... geez man.

If being middle aged and giving into the advances of a young admirer makes you a dick...

    Well...

    Then I'm a dick.

Because I have. And we both enjoyed it. And I'd do it again. In fact... I HAVE done it again.

    Impeach me.

I've always found it funny that every President is my lifetime is smiling in his official portrait. From Carter to George W Bush, they all have toothy grins... but Obama is smiling with his mouth closed.

We could change that in 2016 if Jerry Brown were just a bit younger. Here's his portrait from his first term as governor of California. Believe me, this looks even more impressive up against the other stuffy portraits in the Capitol Building in Sacramento ;) :

Which is much worse that the Iran Contra affair of Reagan's. Or the Economic melt-down of George W Bush.

Glad that Richard Nixon didn't have a scandal in HIS presidency.

Gerald Ford was in office when I was born. Bill Clinton was the first Presidential vote I ever cast in 1996. Muy votes since then:

    1996: Clinton
    2000: Nader
    2004: Kerry
    2008: Obama
    2012: Obama
