Oh no brian, you don't get an easy out pass. You of all people, will pull (outta yer ass I'm guessing') the better info from beyond. I don't know much about term limits either except that incumbents enjoy a 90% reelection chance which is why Super PAC's slather them to begin with (unless of course they really don't deliver) but WE can have some fun sculpting out a plan that could at least let them know we are coming out of our coma.
Keep thinking on it. If we all took the path you are taking, there will never be a second round and as hedonist pointed out: THIS IS—PART OF THE EXPERIMENT.
Honestly, aside from being paid to do so, still, it would be against bad odds they'd possbily come up some good and viable plans when their guiding enforcer remains unmoved to even try themselves.
UNIFY! Has anyone seen Rebellious Truths? If not, please look into it. Its a wonderful concept for all walks of life to get together and talk about the important issues of our day. Talk about our plaforms as individuals and our beliefs and why we think they should be heard. Let us try it soon!
Theres no time like the present

Thanks. Now all we have to do is decide when to begin and when to end!
Yeah, let's do it. But PAC's and anything about global economics- well, I've always focused more on local activism and local economy so this is a little like asking Johnny Thunders to play like John McLaughlin. I'll fake it best I can but I'm not likely to be able to play the minor 7 suspended 4 Major 9 chords- figuratively speaking that is.

fear4freedom; is rebellious truths a flick? If so, could you just give us a quick breakdown?
Actually sum it up more consisely if you will; just give us an idea of what angles we are missing. Hitting even.
thks.
brian; I knew you'd pull thru. Especially when i sicked CBG on you!
I don't get it. The video doesn't really say much. The web site doesn't say anything( maybe it didn't load correctly). I looked further and could find nothing substantial about who or what Rebellious Truths are. Probably not what dancpartner had in mind.

wow! great video. Brian, I do see it's significance and will look rebellioustruths' site up—tomorrow that is.
I really think any wake-up or unifying sites need to promote each other as we are ALL up against the mega opinion-forming gigs which have mega-bucks paving their way.
Here's one site I thought was interesting.... (now lets see if I can do this)
I'm just going to cut this from DP. It's easier.
During my searches, I found a fascinating video of graffiti artist Kalen Ockerman http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b9p8Og6-YcY&feature=plcp depicting his version of NWO, (New World Order).
Oddly, I found this on the right leaning Alex Jones show. Imagine, a mural depicting commonly-held concerns of both liberal and conservative. Ockerman’s work fascinated me for other reasons too, not the least of which was watching an artist quite literally—express himself but also, the commentary running in the background.A commentary I could easily relate to; a feeling that no one was listening.

I'm going to stick my neck out here and make a couple of more suggestions here for subjects to work toward unification on- two subjects that have, are and/or will affect us all:
Climate change: This subject has been discussed to death and yet the problem still grows and persists. Maybe it just needs to happen and we'll adjust to it but I can't accept that because my extended family kids will have to live with it. This seems like a logical choice for a subject to agree on and one for which a unified effort to reduce would make a lot of sense.
Fukushima: This is a subject for which I seem to have had little or no luck getting a response on and yet in reading the following link it seems like one that would be hard not to take action on. A unified call to action here would be most appropriate. Maybe it's just to damn frightening, but ignoring it will not make it go away and we would do well to make some noise about this as it could very much affect everyone everywhere:
I agree, this is awesome artwork- though I'm not sure how or if it is a response to my post.
We could discuss the Illuminati all day but I avoid such discussions. The way I look at it, all world empires are and have been ruled by a powerful group of people of some form or other and this has been going on since the advent of agriculture some 10,000 years ago. The only way I can see breaking this pattern is to go back to tribal hunter gather societies. I don't think I'll be around to see that happen- though I do think it will, eventually.
Meanwhile, I just try to do my part to help make the world a little better to give those who follow after a chance to do the same. Oh, and of course to do what my old man says, "Have fun," and what Kurt Vonnegut said, "Fart around".

Let's stick with term limits and I like Brian's idea of climate change. I know that one is not easy to agree on but maybe we can have one easy topic and one topic that is more difficult to resolve. As far as time to discuss, I say one week. We are all busy and have limited attention spans and most threads around here seem to last about a week before we move on to the next thing. Then end it with a 24 hour debate segment.
Are we getting something out of this all-encompassing trip?
Seems my preconceptions are what should have been burned...
I'll be reading along and enjoying the learning process
nice an information exchange about common sense topics.
I suspect a lot of unity on these two subjects not being the hot topic core beliefs
it will be interesting to hear facts, ideas, solutions on both subjects.

I like this plan of leaving it open for a week...most threads seem to die after about that long. I would like to extend the debate segment to a 48 hour period, just because there may be some days where some of us can't log on at all.

I'm easy 48 hours will work

Okay. 1 week with a 48 hour closing.
topics will be: Super PAC's, indsider trading on the hill and term limits.
If this works, we can move onto climate change and 2 others.
Should we start on Monday?
Should I participate? I'm asking since I'm the one who put this forth.
To riotgirl, brian, pandora, johnyp, comebackgirl, hedonist, fear4freedom—do any of you PM anyone? Maybe you can drum up a bit more interest?

DP, this is in no way meant to stymie your energy - which is appreciated - but I'm not going to PM folks about this. It's an open forum and I'll ride on the assumption that if others have read the thread and want to participate, they will - as should you, if you're inclined.
hedonist; ok. I only got the idea after Someone "Carter" mentioned coming out of the woodwork. I didn't know if this meant members don't normally hang out here, (maybe over at AET?) and maybe they'd like a heads up?
As for me, hell yes I want to participate, it'd be like sitting on my hands otherwise, but I'm the new kid here and I've sculpted this, so I'd understand if the majority of you would rather me sit at least—the first round out.
thanks for your input.
It's another beautiful day here. Off to the blue yonder. But before I go, I thought I'd attempt to paste something I found this a.m. on commondreams; (my newest forum of favored choice).
See what you think. It might spark a lively, debate; another gimmie versus earn yer way so maybe it's not a great solution but what I REALLY like—poeple are awakening to their own power. Considering big money owns the airwaves and most unifying sites are non-profit, I promote the latter. If anyone has suggestions about other worthy sites to promote I'd verily appreciate them. I've dedicated a page at DP for this purpose.
thanks
Here's today's food for thought:

Yeah, looks like an interesting project. here's the link: http://rollingjubilee.org/
Now if we could just coincide this idea with a way to balance our impact on the planet. I know those don't sound connected but they are. Commerce and economy as we run them operate on extraction of limited natural resources. Our debt to the planet in that sense is outrageous.

Patience Brian. We gotta start rolling as one before we can tackle any specific issue.
But yes, the enviorment should be everyone's concern. So should Baby-G. New book out called Automate this by Christopher Steiner. Have not yet read it but the preview has him faulting all the auto-robot traders causing the prelim to our recession. Ugh. One more techno book. Honestly, this would have been the last topic I could ever have envisioned me writing about.
So, I was thinking, maybe it's too early yet, (post election jitters still a flickering) to attempt our mini-poll experiment.
I thought I'd simply start with one topic, the easiest one I can think of which nearly every American could stand behind to eradicate: Super PAC's buying our democracy.
So, what do you think?

I'm still in but I have to tell you, I don't know much about super PAC's, I don't know or care much about insider trading and have mixed feeling about term limits. That leaves me with little to contribute which is kind of sad because I like the idea of the experiment. Maybe I'll have to hold off sign up for phase two of the experiment.
Been nosing about on this thread, not saying anything, seeing where it was going. Interesting 'experiment' but topic wise, not sure it's 'wide enough' - certainly the above one seems to limit the number/willingness of participants (international board....). If topics are too narrow or too obtuse to engage a good number of posters here, you will not have as wide of an audience as you may wish for, or the discussion may be 'weak' due to lack of/limited knowledge and then possibly limited interest to keep the topic going.
On the other hand, topics such as climate change (or Fukushima or the likes), ethical trading, etc., whilst still being 'safe' have a global impact and may be easier to discuss.
Also, all this seems very 'structured' and organised for the AMT!
Good luck with this though.

Good point about being an international board, Redrock. It's too easy for us in the U.S. to forget that we are not the world. We act like it and think like it. Maybe the subject of thinking more like planetary citizens and questioning how we best go about that while living regionally would be a subject worth exploring.

Worth exploring.. yes! We live far away from each other, different countries, different lives (similar language for some though!) yet there are so many things we all worry/think about/want to change that are the same. We may have different approaches to the potentially various solutions to these issues (or very similar ones indeed) due to our abilities/our governments, etc., but in the end I think we all wish for a same outcome. Global and regional/local can meet!
Nationality/'not from this country' has been divisive on this board when it comes to subjects deemed as 'american'. Though I'm sure one can somewhat extrapolate PACs to something similar in other western countries, I feel it's still too narrow of a remit for an open and valid discussion.

To vant; well, I can say I like the video title! The video though—was too garbled, were they saying unite!??
Anyway, thanks for the poster boy song.
To Redrock; your insite was very interesting. 1) not broad enough for a world-wide forum. This is true. The only ones interested seem to be Americans though. This brings me to your next point; 2) others won't participate if it remains American specific. Viscious circle dammit!
3) too structured. Yep. You're on spot once again. Remember though, the experiment is a mini-poll conducted on ourselves by us—nobody paying for it. Can we easily come to a consensus or not? Otherwise, it would simply remain as a thread; one we'd discuss for a bit, and then move on. Forums are everywhere doing just that. So, can we move from discussion to action? I don't know where you live but in America—we are stuck in one ineffective rut.
As for global topics, brian is all about getting us to move from this rut with regards to enviormental issues and I'm all about getting us unify in order to stall the growth of superintelligence. These two topics are most certainly global nightmares a-brewing but I suspect are too overwhelming so most masses simply tune them out.
It was when our election turmoil starting cooking, I realized there was no sense in trying to unify our sites on these nearly insurmountable looming calamities when regional politics gripped us so I gave way to where we are. And regional grips us all; here at AMT, I've learned more about Australian politics than I ever considered giving any attention to!
So yes, it's a bit of a quandary; where to begin. But begin—I passionately believe is a must. I'm open to anything. So, whatcha got?

Global and regional/local can meet!
Nationality/'not from this country' has been divisive on this board when it comes to subjects deemed as 'american'. Though I'm sure one can somewhat extrapolate PACs to something similar in other western countries, I feel it's still too narrow of a remit for an open and valid discussion.
This brings me back to like 10th grade...
