    That is fucked up.

My first time voting in NJ after moving here in May...not only did they check my ID but on the sign in sheet they had a print out of the 'official' signature of everyone so that I had to sign my name as I signed it on my driver's license.

That being stated the nice woman who helped me was about 90 and had an oxygen tube hooked up under her nose. I doubt she would have noticed if I was Dennis Rodman.

I vote at an elementary school in Brooklyn; I have to go through a metal detector.

Just kidding -- I did not have to show ID.

    Yes.

My son wasn't allowed to vote in a previous election (not presidential) because all he had was his school id. We made sure he got his official Florida id after that experience.

This time, he was completely prepared. :) We all voted early.

i don't know the law, but really, i could care less if they checked id's of everyone. how hard would it be for me to walk into anouther location and cast anouther vote as someone else.

#thewoman is running around yelling it is illegal and wrong.

i'm sort of hoping they ID her tonight.

i really don't understand the uproar over having to show an ID to vote.

I was not asked to show an id but one woman a few people in front of me was but the election worker said it was listed under her name that an id was required. i'm guessing she must have been new to the Ward or a new voter.

There's uproar because it's unconstitutional to require an ID to vote when you have to pay to get that ID. Therefore, you're having to pay to vote. That is fucked up. I guess people don't mind ignoring the constitution if they see enough benefit from it or if it fits their personal agenda.

well i never said i would require an id that HAD to be purchased and i have no agenda (not a republican here). i just think it's common sense that if i have to show and ID to buy a pack of cigarettes or to get a drink in this country it's probably a good idea to show an id to elect the next leader of the free world. i don't know call me crazy for having that thought.

common sense ain't so common anymore :?

Common sense says that you have to pay to get the ID. How many of the state's that require ID to vote don't charge to get the ID? Buying booze and smokes is a consumable choice, voting isn't in the same category.

nope, not in the same catagory......voting is way more important.

seriously tho, what is stopping me from going to every polling station and voting with somebody else's name.

We have voter postcards that are mailed telling us our voting place.
Then there are rosters and we must show picture ID with matching address.
There is some fraud though with people who have
multiple ID's with a variation of their names and different addresses.

It is also state law that a person have a picture ID on them at all times
    or they can be arrested.

    Your high moral character?

I just think there's other ways around voter fraud if that what showing ID is supposed to eliminate.
