I'm really excited. We were planning on visiting Holland in June (our first time in Europe!!!) and the whole Pearl Jam thing just confirmed our plans. So now I have tickets to see them with you guys, and a whole lotta stress about air fares etc. (australian dollar is shit). Just stoked that we have family over there to stay with...

Can anyone tell me how far Nijmegen is from Rotterdam? And where would be the best place to stay? Could we drive from Rotterdam to Nijmegen and back after the concert, or would we be better off trying to get a motel (we'd prefer to have a few drinks ya know).

You could drive from Maastricht to Leeuwarden and back after a concert, although the Dutch may disagree.

Rotterdam to Nijmegen is about an hours drive.

Well, my girlfriend lives in nijmegen and i study in Rotterdam, so I can tell you quite some stuff...

First of all the distance between nijmegen and rotterdam is app. 120 km.
There's a highway (a15) so it's not that hard to find the way back.
Nijmegen is a real nice place, rather small but very ok.
    I'd recommend this dancing:

Hey, thanks Andre and yuglwek...this helps clarify some things in my head.

I'm still excited (I wonder if it will last for 5 months?) - I didn't realise the venue was so cool - someone estimated in another thread that only about 4000 people would be there - does that sound right? I thought there would be a huge crowd, but the smaller the better I say!

I've been to a lot of concert in the Goffert Park in Nijmegen. Normally, there are between 10,000 and 20,000 people during concerts/little festivals.

4,000 doesn't sound true to me.

The maximum capacity is around 40,000 (Bon Jovi etc.), although at most concerts the capacity is around 20,000.

  • Anyone know about accomodation? I'd be likely to arrive the 27... day after Copenhagen, day before the Park gig and leaving on the 29th. I'll be on my own so I'm looking for anyone (or two) who'd be looking to split a room. I have seen no listings for hostels so we'd maybe be looking at a twin or triple room.

Alternatively if anyone has a better suggestion I'm all ears. Feel free to reply here or pm me if interested.

  • Flying in from NYC and staying in Amsterdam for a few days. Will it be necessary to get a hotel in Nijmegen the night before or the night of the show?

Some people have told me I can take the train on the morning of the show from Amsterdam, then hop back on after the show to head back, but others have told me its an all day travel.

Also, i want to try to be as close to the barrier as possible, so I'd like to line up as early as possible b4 the show starts..

    Any advice?

The train journey from Amsterdam Central to Nijmegen is 1,5 hours. It is easy to travel to Nijmegen on the day of the concert. However, getting back to Amsterdam might be a problem.
Nijmegen itself does not have many hotels. You could use this website to find information on accommodation: http://www.hotels.nl/nijmegen
Many of the hotels listed here are in little villages surrounding the city. Hotels in Nijmegen are the Bastion Hotel, Mercure Hotel (right next to the central station) and City Park Hotel.
    Hope this helps!
