Living is no laughing matter: you must live with great seriousness like a squirrel for example - I mean without looking for something beyond and above living, I mean living must be your whole occupation.

Bad. Especially the version from "Rattle and Hum." That's my favorite performance of any song ever.

If you held a gun to my head I'd probably say One. But like a lot of you, depending on the day my favorite might be one of twenty or so songs, mostly from Achtung Baby and Zooropa.
  • No 'New Years Day' so far.

    I'll toss it out there.

    This is unfair.

First song that comes to mind: "Where the Streets Have No Name." Absolutely a brilliant song and one of the best album openers ever. No matter how many times it's been played by the band and on radio, it will always be one of the best songs ever written. Never gets old for me. The transition to it from the Elevation Tour is amazing.

Let's not forget about "The Fly." Words can't describe the brilliance of this song. It's perfect.

  • The Unforgettable Fire. Angel of Harlem.

Think of songs that might not be quite as mainstream... but nonetheless are awesome:

    Surrender. Lemon. An Cat Dubh.

I remember me and my college teammates used to jam to U2 on our bus trips to games. Great times. U2 is easily one of the best 5 bands ever. Period.

Here's to you and I- my Greek friend- agreeing on something that should be agreed upon with everyone!

I've got the War album going through my Bose headphones right as I type. 'Seconds' is the song as of the moment.

Music... the universal language. The power to bridge all gaps.

  • Should preface by saying... half pickled here. Wine is good.

Earlier in the night I had made a reference to backpacking in Costa Rica. This thread had me grab my headphones and start jamming out to U2.

When I travelled through Costa Rica (summer of 1993), I had my Sony Sports Walkman. Duracell batteries and a Bic pen for rewinding and fast forwarding.

Tapes that accompanied me on this trip (90 minute Maxell tapes accomodated 2 lps- approximately one cd on each side):
    Kiss- Dressed to Kill
    Alice in Chains- Dirt
    Peter Gabriel- Us
    RATM
    Led Zeppelin `mix

    and

U2 Zooropa (released a day before I left... just `bought it, recorded it and left without listening to it)

The songs on this album just revive so many great memories. A time machine sure would be awesome, but if not possible... it`s nice to have music to spark the memory banks!

    * Yes...upon looking at the collection... a weird mix. But it worked for me!

Difficult one this. I'm a very big fan of the Joshua Tree/Rattle & Hum period so probably Running To Stand Still. Sometimes the simple ones are the best. The Joshua Tree is still stunning 25 years down the line.
