this guy is a coward. he lives his life in fear of an imaginary boogeyman like most of the right wingers in this country. i guess he believes that "if it's white, it must be right"....

fortunately the majority of americans would marginalize this fool. i mainly just feel terribly sorry for him. it just proves that all nations have their share of idiots. at least now we can say that racism thrives in certain circles in this country. and i searched for it, but i could not find any condemnation of this sort of thing from the romney camp. a simple statement condemning this sort of rhetoric would go a long way, but i guess romney can't be bothered since 47% of us would never give him a chance anyway...

I saw a really disturbing bumper sticker on the truck of a parent waiting for a youth orchestra child... It was a confederate flag with the words "fighting terrorists for over

I've said it before: It's 2012 and racism still runs rampant in this country (and like Dimi says, other countries too). We have made progress away from racism- of that I'm sure- but it's still a big problem and that, I find, is very depressing.

  • That shirt would be challenged where I live. We don't get that stuff around here and for that... I feel fortunate.

I'm wondering if anyone put themselves out there and suggested to the idiot that his shirt was offensive? Or, was the gathering full of people who wouldn't bother because, deep down... they kind of agreed?

sad and pathetic...i'd like to see this asshat wear that shirt on the south side of chicago and see how tough he is after. This guy must've forgot about the 8 years that GB was prez..a white guy...and a complete breakdown of our economy ensued. People like this shouldn't be allowed to vote; sickening

It's really sad Dimi. Some people feel so small and are so frightened that they need to focus their hate on groups of people for no other reason than to puff themselves up and make themselves feel bigger. It doesn't work...carrying that kind of hatred is toxic for them as well as for the people they focus it on. These kinds of attitudes and behaviors says so much more about the person espousing them than the people they are trying to intimidate. The t-shirt might as well say "I'm scared and small but I'm trying to cover those feeling up by projecting them onto other people."

The only mouths the N word flows freely from are the rappers and blacks themselves. This President and the dems. have brought out the racism in the country. They think Blacks are not efficient enough to get to the polls by themselves. They also think Blacks and Hispanic are incapable of acquiring an ID. They think only whites can do these things. You need to do some research before you make comments like those. You are also wrong about the Tea Party they are the only group that Does NOT care about skin color.

Recognizing that people have different access to resources doesn't mean you think they're incapable of anything...it means you recognize they have different access to resources, largely due to social class, not race. However race does correlate to social class because of the historical limitations certain groups have had to those resources, the manner in which they were brought to the country, the role they were allowed to have in government, etc. It shouldn't be about creating dependency, it should be about removing barriers. If we truly believe our hard work, etc is the variable that will get us where we want to be, we don't have to be afraid of giving other people access to the same opportunities.

Well said, combackgirl. I don't see the shirt being about pride at all (sorry, Godfather but I really can't imagine that's what the guy had in mind) but, as you say, about fear and hatred and is indeed toxic. That much fear and hate in some people is, in the long run, mostly harmful to the hateful and biased. These people would chose a confined world huddled in small thinking and fear and are missing out on a world rich and full of diversity.

If an ID costs money for the person, then it should be thrown out because it's saying that you have to pay to vote.

I would agree that it is just as idiotic to vote for someone simply because they share the same skin color as you. Just because you share the same skin color, gender identity, ethnic background, sexual orientation, etc. as a politician does not mean they are going to share your views or support the policies that you believe in or that will most impact you. I think the motivations might be different in a lot of cases though. The guy in the photo would likely be voting to limit others' place in society and access to resources. , etc. (racism), while those who are members of minority groups might be voting less to limit others and more in the hopes of improving their own access and place in society.

very true...and when you have limited income and have to decide how to best spend it...well you might wind up not voting.

i agree with you..even im not so familiar with usa politics-tea party or even politics in general i have to say that
racism is something that grow up more than falls down....
for one thing im sure..the political game is going to happen,no matter what color the president has,the president will play his game and do what he has to do no matter if its Asian...
and as Godfather said, the racism is from all parties..not only from white to black people..

the sad thing is and comes along with the foto is that there are alot of people thinking this way,and choose the president they like cos of the color..
and those people vote..and their vote affect your life..

Probably- in theory- although I don't know- if I were black and came from a background of hundreds of years of repression in this country I might vote for a black guy just because it would represent a major change in viewpoint. Fifty years ago, a black guy would never have stood a chance of becoming president no matter how qualified he or she might have been.

If an American Indian ran for president, as long as their views weren't too radically different than might and they had a chance off winning I might vote for him or her based solely on the fact that this country was founded by First Nations people.

If a member of my favorite band ran for president, that might even sway my vote. I don't think it's necessarily inappropriate for personal preference like these to affect an individual's vote. All that said, I still don't think that is what this guys t-shirt is about. To me it's obvious that this is more about wanting to get the black out of the White House than it is about getting the white back in. It would be interesting to have him interviewed and find out first hand but I don't think there would be any surprising revelations in such an interview.

as i just post, racism comes from all sides..from the moment you are black and you vote Obama cos he is black or you are white and vote Romney cos he is white its all the way wrong....

given the fact that the state generally charges a fee to get said ID , these laws in effect become poll taxes , which were outlawed long ago.

Out of all that stuff regarding voter fraud, point me to the actual prosecutions of it, show me why its needed in the real world. then I may get behind it. Otherwise do this shit in a time and manner that doesnt come so close to any election period. Like begin the process right after an election cycle so there isnt such a rush and push for legal action. Lawsuit related to voter rolls in ohio about having dead people removed. WTF. brought by an out of state organization.

another suit involving early voting in the weekend prior to election day. Kinda pissed about our Sec of State pushing this shit to the SCOTUS. Who's paying for that? Me , thats who.

Yep...repealed by the 24th amendment, thereby recognizing it served as a barrier to some segments of the population being able to have a political voice by voting...just as an important amendment as the 1st or 2nd imo

I agree it should not be done so close to an election. It looks bad and can be taken as holding people back. Here in Florida it's the law to have ID on your person. My friend was accused of drinking on the beach but they could not prove it. So they arrested him for not having an ID on him.
So I don't see how it could be a big deal here.

further to the point about the fee associated with getting an ID, I see S Carolina is now offering them free to those that dont have them. Thereby getting around the poll tax arguement. If that kind of thing is done here, then I want a refund for mine.
