I had a great time last night! Any time you can see Pearl Jam play is a good night! There seemed to be LOTS of KOL fans in the crowd;people were rocking out all night! And free beer!! SCORE!!!
Free beer AND wine :-) Fabulous FREE night and lots of fun had by everyone. The evening started off a bit cold and blustery, but once the bands started playing and we all huddled near the front it was nice and toasty. I was actually surprised by how people were holding on to their places - I fully expected to be able to walk down to the barriers after KOL finished. I went for a pee/wine break after KOL and didn't re-unite with my wife until 2 or 3 songs into the PJ set. I was highly amused by Ed's failed attempts to coach the majority of the crowd into doing hand claps, signals and sing-alongs. Lots of PJ fans there though, and even those that weren't hard-code fans really got into the Ten-era songs (at least where I was standing). So, thanks Larry, for a great free night with a bonus PJ show !
I'm simply grateful I got a ticket since it was a private show (it would have been pure torture to know they were in my town and I couldn't see them!). It was a beautiful venue at treasure island.
It was weird to see a PJ show with a bunch of people in the audience standing like statues (even up close). Thank god for the pj fans bopping around and rocking out throughout the crowd!
MIke's guitar playing behind his head on Porch was a treat to witness, and his hair was cut and styled as a mohawk! I always love Mike's energy at the shows, but again it was a bit disappointing that the crowd up at the stage was not very engaged.
The set was strong, especially for the type of show. I was pleased that Green Disease was played and that Ed made a statment about PTSD veterans and their horrific suicide rates - on average 18 per day. I admit it was a bit of a downer to think about at a rock concert - especially playing Come Back right after - but it was cool that he acknowledged them because I rarely ever hear people talk about it and it's an epidemic. Plus most all of their other songs were fast and high energy, so it all balanced out in the end...
I would like to post one more thought on this whole subject of them playing a corporate gig. I was glad to see Ed use his time up on the soapbox to discuss and bring awareness on such topics as same sex marriage and the wounded warrior program. Not many others would do that if they found themselves in his situation trust me. They would of just gone up and played their required gig and collected their paycheck on the way out...kind of like what Kings of Leon did.
If Ed was able to get just one person in that elitist crowd to think about donating money or supporting one of those causes in some way, shape or form then he did his job and therefore shouldn't be ridiculed.

Very well said Red Mosquito. Vedder had kahones to make the statements, and he did not have to do that. Most people, not even just the elitists, are completely out of touch with the fact that Afghanastan has been the longest war in American History. I've evalutated some of the veterans and PTSD is a very tough condition to manage, and they need as much support as they can get.

I completely agree with both statements! Plus it was a good setlist!

I thought that the band would play a short concert, not worth all that money in my eyes, but to each their own.

Had a great time.. The event, location and evening was awesome. It seems that it would be a great event to hit up every year. Having Pearl Jam as the headliner was...ah forget about it.
Within a week, I went from having no clue they were playing in the city, to losing my mine over the $2500 price tag, to missing some connections in the pit for wristbands, to wondering if I could even afford some of the early c/l prices to scoring a bracelet for a fair price (a little more than I was comfortable with, but worth every dollar) and finishing with pure euphoria when the boys opened with Evolution.
Agreed...Green Disease was cool, down is a great tune and Baba O'Riley reminded me of my first ever PJ show at the Greek in Berkeley.
OUR BAND IS AMAZING! and OUR PJ COMMUNITY IS THE EQUAL! (lookin for a fan club ticket for Ed in Vegas and Phoenix)
(Members of the U.S. Women's soccer team are in the front row. One of them hands her gold medal to Ed. He thanks them for their contribution and says it is great to have them here.
I have to do this in Smilies because my words would get me a "vacation" at the very least. :silent:

I got a free wristband from a conference attendee who wasn't attending the appreciation event.

Much appreciation for the link to the live audio from the show. Did anyone get audio of the Kings of Leon song that Eddie joined in for?
Thanks,,, Jb
