Random observations

There are people who will argue that photography itself isn’t art; in that it’s often a direct depiction of what a camera interprets – giving no credit to the photographer. To them, anything short of painting isn’t art. The same people are even more critical of camera phones, almost as if a photograph taken on a phone isn’t a ‘real’ photo. Apparently the value of the work is defined by how much you spend on your equipment, not the end result.
As Chase Jarvis said “The best camera is the one that’s with you.” Personally I don’t think it matters if you took a photo on a DSLR and spent 4 hours processing it, or took it on your iPhone and slapped an Instagram filter on it – if you like it and it captures the moment then the photo has done its job.
With that in mind, this thread is purely for random observations. Moments that aren’t set up or planned and are mostly captured on a phone, occasionally on a small digital camera. Just point and click and see what happens. Occasionally I edit my iPhone photos using Instagram or other apps before posting them, sometimes to add a border, sometimes to tweak the colours. If that sort of thing isn’t considered art in your eyes then this thread probably isn’t for you.

anyone who says photography cant be art is a fool. photography is more than just pointing and shooting... tho it can be just that. amongst other things its about angle, exposure, composition and deciding whether or not something is worth being photographed.

Love this photo - it transported me back to the Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam where I saw this painting 15 years ago: 'A Pair of Shoes' http://www.artquotes.net/masters/vangog ... _shoes.htm
I love the quote below the painting in your link about how Van Gogh "found beauty in the everyday, in the things that people take for granted, and deemed them worthy of a painting." That's such a great way to look at things.

A ballista in the grounds of Castell Caerffili. It's pointing out over the water that surrounds the castle:

i especially like the different shades of stark blue
contrasting in and about the castle itself.
