Agreed. Anyone stupid enough to spend more for a "first pressing" DVD deserves to get ripped off! ... I can't imagine there is anyone in the world who would do that though.

I mostly agree. There are a few dvd's/blurays out there that had certain rare pressings that contained versions of movies or extras that didn't make it to other pressings. Those rare first pressings can have some value.

In the case of PJ20. The new version seems to have better packaging, the same discs, and costs $30 less. There's no reason for the original to cost more when the newer product seems superior :) It sucks a bit for those who originally bought it. I'm pretty tempted to try and sell my original copy and buy the new one.

I don't think of first editions of books or vinyl at all comparable to DVDs, particularly because they are not items that become obsolete as technology progresses (I mean, in the case of vinyl, people love it because it's still best quality and everything. The same can't be said about a DVD) ... who "collects" DVDs???? Don't people just want the movie to watch? DVDs do not appreciate in value or anything, and are very easily copied. I mean... I have a 20th anniversary edition of E.T. on VHS. Should I cling onto this valuable collectable?

hahaha you are looking at this logically, so it's definitely not something that interests you. But there are absolutely people who collect DVDs, just as there are people who collect Pearl Jam releases. That first edition will have value. It will surely take a hit, and won't be worth the $300 premium it was before - but I'd be surprised if the value ever dips below $100. Would love to be wrong, as I also think that's way too much.

But just as there are people who collect Hello Kitty, or shot glasses, or whatever else they happen to be into, there will be people who want the original release because of the different packaging. Has nothing at all to do with practicality or use.

Oh. Well, alright then! I didn't know! I get collecting - I collect vinyl and love it (then again, I would never buy a first pressing of a PJ album if there was a reissue). I did not know that people would collect DVDs in this way when there are superior formats to be had!

I don't get excited about the different releases and collecting them all, but I certainly understand the mindset. I'm a recovering poster collector, and would really want all the different variants of a poster for no reason other than to complete the collection. I finally took a step back and was like - "what am I doing?" and don't really do the poster thing anymore (although I still feel the draw).

There are people that go batshit crazy over sneakers - "sneaker freaks." Line up overnight to buy a pair of shoes that they will never wear. It's a fascinating culture, and I'm not at all meaning to imply there's anything wrong with it. Love talking about it (obviously...)

  • Look at this guy. This post has no mention of this being the reissue, it's showing a picture of the old package, and he specifies it won't ship until after 11/13. It's even got the exact same description from the webpage.

At least he's not asking $500, but it's already above what this site is asking.

    Interesting...

  • This is ingenious and the only way to do it. They couldn't re-release the same exact limited edition that they already released since it would de-value the original pressings (and piss off a lot of people who have this version in the process). Whether you liked the packaging or not the fact is that the limited edition was the original pressing, in limited quantities, and will be worth more than any subsequent pressing. This doesn't apply to me since I wasn't willing to pay more...I'm only interested in viewing the content and couldn't personally care less about the edition, packaging, whatever. But I understand "collecting" and this WILL apply to someone who collects. So those that have the limited editions shouldn't see too much of a decrease in value for those that collect and those that simply wanted to enjoy the content (like myself) now have a cost effective option to do so.

Honestly if you're someone that doesn't like your original pressing you should sell that for a higher dollar amount, buy the re-release, and have a little extra coin for whatever PJ releases next :)

Very happy about this...it's really the only way to do it to avoid pissing anyone off... thx 10C and thx to the 3K petitioners for making this happen...

Oh, FYI, there were maybe a few hundred petitioners, and then 4 or 5 people just kept posting smiley faces every couple of days for the entire year.;)

Question for the master minds regarding quality and correct me if I am wrong!

Got my DVD Deluxe which I haven't opened yet, would love to get Blu Ray but I have a question, as far as I understand all the footage was not filmed in HD, is that affect the resolution on the BluRay??? Is there an actual difference between the DVD and BluRay in terms of Image Definition??? Anyone here had the chance to watch both formats???

I am hoping for a real answer and yeah you can make fun of me too, thanks ;-)

    anyone?
