your comment about using my grandfathers fact check was a little rude in my opinion and sounded like a reply from a young 17-20 year old...being 17 aint bad, if I could go back to 1977 just for that one year and change my choices in life things might be a little different today

you made a thread based on an "email forward" that was clearly based on bs without thinking about it or checking it yourself ... this is why we keep harping on critical thinking ... it means you take the time to think through what someone is trying to feed you ... you did so because the email suited your partisan beliefs ... facts and truths have no meaning anymore in the discussion ...
i'm sorry if you took offense but the reality is that as a nation - people should be embarrassed that mistruths and propaganda pieces get soaked up on both sides ... just because it suits one's partisan's beliefs ... at one point the majority of americans thought Iraq was responsible for 9/11 ... and at one point, 30%+ thought Obama wasn't born in america ... this is stuff that has to make one question the ability of the people to think for themselves ...0 -

I actually had more cranky, old-mannish, Repub type views when I was younger. The party has totally lost me. I didn't switch my registration to D until it was time for the PA primary in 2008.
I couldn't remember if you said it was your grandfather or was someone around 75 years old that you knew. no worries here bro, the guy is a retired fire fighter about 75 and has always been interested in politics, I've known him sense about 1980-1981ish and have always respected him and his word.

Just few thoughts- these remote islands should belong to neither Russia or the US. They should belong to the Inuit people (or whom ever are native to those islands-- if anyone), whales, polar bears, and planet earth. Drilling for oil in ecologically sensitive areas? You are totally right...look the mess in the gulf with BP...now imagine a spill in this part of the world...clean up would be an extremely tough job considering the harsh conditions in the area.I have certain rules I live by ... ya know that seems to be true in some countries why is that ? why are Americans proud of their country more so than some others are of theirs...well why do we have a stronger sense of nationalism/ra-ra-Americanism ?
and is there anything wrong with it ?
we are a young country, many of us have fought in wars or have family members that have and some can trace there family all the way back to the civil war or even family members that landed on the new england coast..plymouth rock ?
so maybe that has something to do with it and another thing that may have something to do with it is that this country was started by rebals..the guys that told the Queen to take a hike, the guys that wrote the DOI and signed it risked their lives to do that...hell yeah the Queen was pissed she thought all the new land was property of jolly ol England....we flipped her the bird and said no it's our's and we ain't comin back....so anyway it may very well be in the blood

What I think is wrong with the blind nationalism that SOME people in the US seem to hold is that it causes them to not hold their government accountable. *obligatory disclaimer: Of course many many Americans are highly critical of their government while still nationalistic - I'm talking about those who are that other way; it's just a way more prevalent sentiment in the US compared to other places). With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. I think what all people who are highly nationalistic, regardless of what country they are from, often tend to not recognize is the greater importance of being a member of a community and of a geographic region and also tend to not recognize the fact that all geographic regions share one thing in common: they are all are a part of one whole-- the same planet. On the grand scale of things, nations are ephemeral whereas geographic regions and the planet as a whole are much more stable and essential to our existence."It's a sad and beautiful world"-Roberto Benigni0
