I think 'tan' equates to looking healthy for a lot of people but being pale is useful. I once had a boss sending me home thinking I was ill because I was so pale - needless to say, he didn't have to ask me twice. I don't sunbathe and I use sunscreen but eventually still get SOME colour (not much). Sounds boring, doesn't it?
