Jeff Ament on Pearl Jam's Next Album, Jay-Z & stuff

With video!!

Pearl Jam bassist Jeff Ament sat down with Fuse's Yasmine Richard at Made in America festival this past weekend in Philadelphia to talk about Pearl Jam’s next album, being hand-picked by Jay-Z to headline day two of the festival and the Seattle band's longstanding political affiliations.
On Pearl Jam’s next album: We’re half way through, and we have a ton of ideas. It’s just a matter of everyone clearing enough space to finish it up. We’re going to do things as naturally as we can. It’s always worked better for us to take our time.
On being hand-picked to perform at Made in America by Jay-Z: We didn’t even know we were on his radar. We were honored that we were on his radar, and that he thought enough of us to ask us.
On whether they’ll support Obama in the upcoming election: I’d be willing to bet that every member will vote for Obama.
On when they'll reissue more albums: The plan was to do the next three records (after Vs and Vitalogy). But at the end of the Vs/Vitalogy ones, we were starting to feel a little whooped. It was starting to feel like we were a nostalgia band, and we wanted to keep focused forward. We’re going to move forward for a while, and maybe in a few years we’ll work on those records.

Very cool. But you don't have to be a nostalgic band to rerelease your albums. We don't need a complete box set either, that can wait. Just make a call to whomever and get them pressed. I'll buy the box set too when it comes out, I promise. I know me, I will.I've met Rob

Now I'm no mathematician but isn't three quarters more then half? :silent:0 -
Good interview!
A bit sad about the news that they aren't going to reissue any more albums at least for a few years, but fully appreciate the reasoning behind not. If they don't feel good about all the nostalgia, then fair enough I suppose, if that's what reissuing makes them feel like (not sure why simple reissues would make them feel that way, but okay... maybe it's those fucking box sets or nothing in their mind?? I prefer just a plain reissue by far). I guess I'm going to have to start saving up because I can't wait a few years for the ones I don't have! Oh well.
Glad they're just going at their own pace with the new album. Whatever works best for them works best for the album I should think. With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy. ~ Desiderata0 -

Btw, she said Jeff Uh-ment. WTF. Seriously, what is it really? Why have I heard him say his own name Eh-ment, but everyone else says it the other way and he seems to act like that's right? I really wish someone would clear this up. It just bugs me.With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy. ~ Desiderata0

I'll clear it up. It's eh-ment. Just like how Jeff says.
As to the not correcting people. He got sick of doing that in 7th grade, and now he just lets it go.

Awesome info minus every member voting for Obama (yeah, I'm that guy).
Thanks for posting! Good stuff - and I agree with them taking their time with the next album. Seems as though they are thinking they need to come out with a better product than its predecessor.Bristow, VA - 5.13.10

Okay, I assumed it was the way he says it himself... just don't get why everyone around him gets it wrong. Oh well.Wilds wrote:PJ_Soul wrote:Btw, she said Jeff Uh-ment. WTF. I think with Ed, it's just a running joke. With everyone else, most people that interview Jeff don't know him personally, and like someone else said, I'm sure he's sick of correcting people, and it comes off a bit pretentious anyway to correct someone on something as petty as that.Gimli 1993

This was exactly my thought! Just repress No Code! Don't even remaster it...just get it out there again at a price I can afford.0 -
Exactly. Just press ALL of them, just the way they were in the first place. They could ven leave out any bells and whistles that were original - i wouldn't care. 180 g vinyl, not remastered, jacket and sleeve, and a simple lyrics booklet. That's all i need! I don't blame them for being sick of the mega box set crap. They should never do that again. I never saw the point, and yeah, they are about nostalgia, which I don't understand from a band that is still playing. Save that stuff for after you stop being a band (or your 30th year maybe). Meh. I guess some people really go for the fancy packaging. I just want a high quality record to spin without spending a fortune.guitar59 wrote:Empty Glass wrote:Very cool.
