I think the bolded part of your response is the thing I'm skeptical can be done. I don't think they would read until the end of your sentence, and stop at "it's socialism!".Halifax2TheMax said:
Frame the issue as an investment in you, general you, the American people because a healthy America is a strong America. Focus on the preventative care and benefits of same and explain that you won’t see immediate results but over decades and life times. Universal health care is a long-term benefit, and in the short-term, it will cost a lot of money, which will be weaponized by the opposing party, which all but guarantees a loss of political power. As far as I can see, with the exception of a true altruistic goal of betterment of the nation (or caring about the legacy they leave), there's no incentive for a politician to think about anything beyond their political term. Add in the fact that politicians have split allegiances - their wallets (via lobbyists, bills which prefer their form of wealth generation, etc.), and the nation - and I think it just becomes immensely harder.tempo_n_groove said:
The right does have a leg to stand on though with that statement. More people are looking for free things, who wouldn't?Gern Blansten said:
Yeah the right is really running with that response as an example of the left wanting everything to be "free" when actually it relates more to making sure people are covered if they are between jobs or recently laid off, etc.tempo_n_groove said:More on the Obamacare/Medicaid thing. There was a town hall in Nebraska and Rep Mike Flood, one of only 3 republicans to do so, asked the question to the people "Should a 28 year old have free medical care even if they are able to work?!?"
The crowd erupts "YES".
This speaks volumes to how America is thinking. Our Healthcare system needs an overhaul. It really does need to be Nationalized. Don't call it socialized or it will have a negative connotation attached to it.
The situations are ALWAYS more complicated than the moronic GOP paints it to be.
It makes complete sense to separate employment from health care coverage.
One thing I am steadfast on is a universal healthcare system. It boggles my mind that we can't figure out how to make it work.
Pointing out profits of healthcare corporations and the salaries of their CEOs but then you’re punishing “wealth.” At the expense of health but you know.
As for the CEOs point - I remember listening to something about how, psychologically, Americans envision themselves as in pursuit of the 'American dream', and therefore see punishing the rich as punishing their future selves (even if they are currently below the poverty line). That make sense to me, and I also think it's probably far less resonant than the "it's socialism" message.'05 - TO, '06 - TO 1, '08 - NYC 1 & 2, '09 - TO, Chi 1 & 2, '10 - Buffalo, NYC 1 & 2, '11 - TO 1 & 2, Hamilton, '13 - Buffalo, Brooklyn 1 & 2, '15 - Global Citizen, '16 - TO 1 & 2, Chi 2

Change the name for one like Universal Healthcare.benjs said:
The question I have on that is - how do you prevent the Republican party from associating it with socialism and making it a toxic pursuit for a politician?tempo_n_groove said:More on the Obamacare/Medicaid thing. 2nd crunch the numbers so it works.
3rd get the doctors on board so they can make money and still want to save us.
4th have the healthcare providers play ball.

i still say they will keep it as is, and just call it trumpcare, as if trump is giving them something brand new that nobody has ever done before. and the flock will buy it all."You can tell the greatness of a man by what makes him angry." - Lincoln

I just can't get over the bs about criticizing the subsidies as evidence that the ACA was a failure.
This is the plan the GOP wanted but won't admit it. They didn't want insurance companies eliminated in a "Medicare for all" type plan. So fuck them. Of course costs increased...look at this Taj Mahal's that hospital groups build. Gotta pay for that shit somehowRemember the Thomas Nine !! (10/02/2018)

this was called romneycare at first. it was from the heritage foundation, and romney had to run away from it when he ran for president.Gern Blansten said:I just can't get over the bs about criticizing the subsidies as evidence that the ACA was a failure.

THe whole idea of requiring insurance companies to use 85% of their revenue for providing care was the kicker along with eliminating pre-existing conditions, etc.
Going back to that bullshit just won't workRemember the Thomas Nine !! (10/02/2018)

Sure it’s the plan they wanted, without the expansion of Medicare nor the COVID era credits. I guess we can’t call that part of the finding Obamacare since it didn’t exist when he was potus.Gern Blansten said:I just can't get over the bs about criticizing the subsidies as evidence that the ACA was a failure.

Since 2010, when the Affordable Care Act (ACA) was enacted by former President Obama, Republicans have hammered the law as a government takeover of the nation’s health care system that’s eroded patient liberties and undermined the quality of care while increasing costs for individuals and exploding deficit spending. https://trib.al/JboVOnK_____________________________________SIGNATURE________________________________________________

Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio's Franklinton Health Center in Columbus will close on Friday.
A provision in the federal spending bill that President Donald Trump signed into law earlier this year ended Medicaid reimbursements for Planned Parenthood.
Planned Parenthood is fighting the move in court, but in the meantime, Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio says fewer patients have been coming in because their care is no longer covered.
That led the regional organization to cut 17 staff members and to close its Franklinton location on West Broad Street. Patients can still receive care at the North Columbus Health Center on East 17th Avenue.
Franklinton Health Center offered walk-in emergency contraception, STD testing, birth control, vaccines and gender-affirming care. The center did not provide abortion services._____________________________________SIGNATURE________________________________________________
