Godfather.
Just craziness. :fp:
Usually it's hormone therapy and minor cosmetic changes AND it's also a recognized disorder for which there is a treatment and that treatment is gender reassignment.
As you were.
That's all well and good. Inmates don't deserve to have it on taxpayer's dollars. Someone wants it...go pay for it yourself. You commit a crime and are in jail, too bad. You need to wait your sentence out and then you can have all the surgery you want.
i'd be careful of suggesting life inside american prisons is tolerable or easy going, or nice. I think the judicial system is a disgrace, but, at least on the outside their is the suggestion that if you engage in horrible behavior, you hopefully are punished for it. I dont think thats the case inside though. I sure didnt hear Damien, Jessie and Jason extol the benevolance of the justice system all those years inside, and I certainly havent heard them say anything at all to that extent since they've been out. if anything, their actions have suggested what im saying. Things were SO BAD, that they were forced to admit "guilt" and were released. Peltiers been in prison 30 years and is routinely beaten and abused. People get put in solitary. Rapes. Shankings. Guards looking the other way. Corruption. Guards beating inmates without recorse, and in some cases beaten them so hard they kill them. Guards and higher ups and inmates all dealing drugs inside and sending it outside as well. (you see BB this past week? those werent real killings of course but that stuff is extremely common). Thats to say nothing of the racist and patriarchal nature of the prison system and in society in general.
Where I have I posted that life inside prison is tolerable or easy going or nice? :? It shouldn't be. They're criminals! :fp: Basic healthcare for all is what I posted. Nothing more...nothing less. You want a sex change...great. Go do it on the outside when you're free. Pay for it on your own dime.
WOw. Yes the sole purpose of prisons is to oppress and make money. Can't believe we have a minority President then who stands for this shit ?! :fp: :fp: It's so much more beneficial to our society to lock up people then have them out in society being productive members.
well thats an interesting point, as its true, if you want an operation on the outside it isnt tax payer funded. but your larger assertion seems false. its predicated on the idea prisoners are there for legitimate crimes they committed and that they need to serve them out. That doesnt pan out. 2 million plus prisoners in us prisons. Over 1 million plus are black men serving time for nonviolent drug offences. Thats to say nothing of latinos and other non caucasians. They didnt commit a crime, or rather didnt commit a crime worthy of imprisonment, and shouldnt have to wait their sentence out, as they shouldnt be serving any time at all.
The judicial system is a farce. And plus the american govt has no legitimate claim to the land you and I stand on. Its stolen land. Therefore the trials of these "criminals" are unjust and false, as are the sentences. The govt has no legitmate right to the land, it isnt theres, therefore anything that goes on in terms of judicial preceedings therefore is a mockery and totally falacious. If called for jury duty I'd never serve, largely for the reasons enumerated above. Anyone who thinks american justice works like you say it does is kidding themselves.
of course it is. Why do you think the building of new prisons is always in the news? Why are these prisons always massive? Who stands to gain monetarily? The US has more people in prison than any other country in the world. Most of its prisoners are black or latino or of some race deemed to be "the other". Most prisoners are poor. Most arent serving time for murdering 15 people. Its mostly drug charges. That aint a "justice system". As I said, the if you think the justice system of the u.s. is-you commit a crime, you are arrested, have your day in court, tried by a jury of your peers, justice is blind and fair and if you are guilty are given a fair sentence-again you are having the wool pulled over your eyes.
read my other post in the DNC thread. Obama could be the worst president in history on civil rights, civil liberties and racial issues. He's done zilch to address any of those 3 issues. And discussions about racism, the drug war, racial inequality and the currupt nature of the prison industrial complex, all that coming out of the mouth of Obama? Youve got to be kidding. He'd never discuss any of those issues. The guys a multi millionaire priveledged member of society whos daughters will get into any college they want and his family is financially set for life. What does he care about any of those issues like some 16 year old black kid getting caught selling pot and is sentenced to rikers on a three strikes law and ends up serving 30 to 40 because of it?
Well until the people we "stole" the land from come and take it back...I guess it belongs to the US. Looking through history books I seem to remember that all land actually belonged to someone else before the people that are there now claim it as they're own. And as far as a racial breakdown or profile of who's in prison...I could care less. If you break the law...go to jail. Pretty simple. :fp:

It's in the news becasue....well it's news. I saw a report today about a new shopping mall being built where I live. It's news. Someone breaks the law...go to jail. The law is written out. We all know it. And to address your Obama point...anyone who becomes President will be "privelaged". Until Joe Crackhead runs for President what are you going to do? My advice...obey the law and everything will be fine.

your point of view implicitly suggests that anyone serving time is in there because they committed a crime. I'll refer you to the people i listed above, WM3, Peltier, unnamed and anonymous average kid in the inner city, who would beg to differ. I agree completely, if you commit a crime you should be punished, but as to what constitutes a crime (drug use, drug selling are they really crimes?) and what the punishment is (rockefeller laws, mandatory minimums, disparity of punishment with cocaine and crack), i think that is something that needs to be addressed. If you are a person of color and are poor, you arent going to be treated the same way as a wealthy yale graduate in a court of law. And as i said, the trials and proceedings are illegal to begin with, as we live on stolen land. You cant throw people in prison, not legally anyway, when you dont own the land the prisons, or jury benches are on.
No one deserves that. Im for prison abolition. And the freeing of all political prisoners. I refuse to pay for more prisons being built. And refuse to vote for anyone who would build more prisons.
But the prison populations exploded when "for profit" prisons were opened. The owners lobbied for more laws, longer sentences and therefore more prisons to house people who had stolen three pieces of pizza for life. Or had sex without revealing they were HIV+. Or didn't have their passport while being Latino in Arizona.
As you were.
this^
Anyway, I'm game for longer sentences for the pieces of shit who rape kids, repeatedly drive drunk, commit horrific acts. I'm fine with no long-term housing of those who've committed petty crimes (although if you've committed two felonies and know there's a three-strike law in place, hello! Don't fucking steal any pizza).
Yeah, one should be in jail for knowingly exposing another to HIV.
As for the last point? Not related, and strikes me a bit as grasping at straws.

he strangled his wife and dumped her body ...
why should he have ever been allowed to have hormones, hair removal etc?
:wtf:
He had no compassion for a woman that trusted him.
He is a murderer.
Exactly what they sound like.
Prisons aren't run by the government just to house criminals. They are now run by corporations that get paid by the government to run them and they make a profit doing it. Which means to grow profits, they lobby for more new laws and longer sentences.
Well good. But there are a lot of people in jail for insane lengths of time for things that are folly at best. Most of them poor black men without access to proper legal representation. Did you know there are people in jail for years because they "stole" free wireless Internet from a coffee place without buying coffee? You're paying for those dangerous criminals to be housed.
When you're homeless, hungry and desperate, taking a piece of pizza is sometimes your only option. I'm not saying that's ok but I certainly don't see how sending that person to jail for life is a solution. Unless you own a for-profit prison.
Even if you practice safe sex, use condoms, have a viral load of zero and no one was infected? Because that carries a 25-year sentence. That you're paying for.
Well actually it IS related.
That immigration law in Arizona that sends people to jail for just not having their papers? That was brought in by Jan Brewer, who took MASSIVE campaign contributions from the owners of for-profit prisons. Do you need a diagram to figure that one out?
I bet you got all tingly and excited saying "he" over and over, didn't you?
Nobody is defending the crime or the criminal.
"for profit prisons" are booming...who said crime dosen't pay ? the state pays per inmate sent to a "for profit prison" but the problem is that prisons are so over crowded that some criminals are released early ...getting rid of "for profit prisons" is a lame idea..it's cheaper for the state or fed's to send a convicted fellen to a "for profit prison" than it is a state or federal run prison and to think that the state and fed's filled "for profit prisons" just so they could foot the bill is ....unclear thinking to say the least.
some one this thread posted to get rid of for profit prisons...bad idea.
Godfather.
True.
We have to build more of them to protect the country from those hooligans that... Spray paint walls and steal packages of gum.
:?
plain to see you know very little about the prison system,I think you've seen too many movies.
the system your thinking of is county jail...you know for stealing gum and spray painting wall's etc...... :?
Godfather.
Is it because everyone here already agrees the topic originally posted is absurd? Anyone think it's an ok idea?
