I save all of my aluminum cans and then drive them to Oregon to get $.05 each. Yesterday I was able to finally get my Benny, only took 12,000 cans
10 cents if you can get to michigan.

As to the actual question, people save; people live frugal lives to afford what is important to them. You can't have it all, but you can have some of it if you prioritize. Maybe someone lives in a shack so they can buy vinyl. I've had to cut back on shows because our priorities right now include getting a child through college....

Do they live on the curve of the road in a tar paper shack on the south side of the town, on the wrong side of the tracks? I may know them!

I wonder about tour people more...following PJ on tour is REALLY expensive, and how do they get all that time off? The average number of vacation days for Americans is 10 days a year. They are very lucky to be able to have that opportunity.

The vinyl is easy, you keep looking and you will eventually find it for a good price. One of my first PJ vinyl purchases was the '91 Holiday single...it was an awesome price I couldn't pass it up.

    10 days
I get 30 days plus public holidays and up to 24 days flexi leave (to recompense time worked over etc)

Yes... Europeans typically get more time off.

It all depends on who you work for and what you negotiate when you get hired. Next year, I'll accrue 28 days plus all major US holidays.

Good answer, JaneNY. I do understand what you are saying and there are albums I'll save for. My wife and I do this cool thing where, as part of our budget, we each get an "allowance". Outside our normal living expenses, anything we individually want comes out of that allowance. If she wanted pearls say (which she doesn't but just "if") and I thought that was ridiculous, she could save here allowance and buy pearls. If I want a Pearl Jam album, I can save my allowance and buy it. But that's a heck of a lot of allowance! Never-the-less, it IS my choice. I just wish P.J. would re-release more of their catalog on good quality vinyl which would be much more affordable than trying to track down an original. Maybe some day.

The one thing I will say though is that vinyl prices being what they are makes them an elitist item and for the most part vinyl is the only way to hear this music in analog. Most people don't care but I do because digital music wears on my already damaged hearing in a big way. I can only listen to digital for a short while. A recoding I like heard on a digital source sounds like broken glass to my ears whereas in analog it sounds like warm cocoa. I'm quite serious about this.

re-releases are what I'm waiting on too. But there is no more talk of them. Brad is re-releasing their catalog, why can't PJ? I'm talking now, not over 10 years.

Heard them do Spin the Black Circle Sunday, I would if I could. I'm not dropping a couple hundred bucks to hear Hol On on vinyl.

The only vinyl I've bought that's not a reissue was No Code. Cost me £50 off eBay, but was sealed so I figured it's a good price. I've been tempted by Yield, but not unless I can find it for the same or less.

I'd rather spend the money saved from wage on experiences like going to shows, seeing new places though.
