I'm happy you're proud to be Canadian but what you say about the US is very obscene. I think you need to remember that if we weren't your "big bother to the south with the  " the USSR would have moved a few hundred miles or so to the East 75 years ago and you would be speaking Russian.

Um, care to back that up with some facts??
Let me have a try, if it wasn't for them pesky Russians, you'd be speaking German. Actually that was fun. Never mind, carry on
The USSR was a useful tool for us. After all the shit in the early 20th century ended as far as war wise goes...we see what happened to them.0 -

Then please enlighten me on the topic. Obviously you must be an expert so please share. :fp:0 -
its not just one party thats currupt though, thats why 150 million people wont vote in november. Not because they are lazy, but because theres got to be a better candidate out there other than Obama or Mitt. I cant stand either. The democratic party is in shambles and is a joke. I dont feel any party represents me, and I know millions of others feel the same way. Its basically, on both accounts, millionaires battling it out. In many ways its inconsequential. Its not like obama and mitt are all that different. The wars going to continue, the environments going to continue to be degredated, the economy is going to get worse, people are going to continue to be tortured and warrentless wiretapped, and both candidates feel its our place to go around and force democracy down others throats via guns and bombs.
Im not voting for either. Im voting ron paul. Only man running who has integrity.0 -

the way that they just walked in there with the whole thing planned, shut up any dissenters, had the vote tally before the vote began and then proceeded with a convention where they openly told lies in their speeches.
And let's point it out again.... the whole theme of the convention was based on a very obvious, very intentional and obtuse theme of "We Built That" when... well, no... they didn't.
AND when called on that, they said "we're not going to let fact checkers dictate our campaign."
Which sums up the whole thing. Truth, democracy, process and fairness didn't matter. What DOES matter is that thanks to citizen's united, the 46 people in America who have more money than the bottom 98% of the population have already bought and paid for a president who will screw over anyone and they clearly don't give a shit.
And since they only were able to buy one president... they bulldozed over every other challe
nger to get their way.
I hear ya, but its both sides that do that. I voted Nader the last 2 elections, and he wasnt even allowed at the debates. It was great seeing Kucinich at the debates the last 2 elections but he was only allowed on there because he was a democrat. His policies, though i agree with him, are so left wing, the entire party just laughs everytime he spoke.
With nader, and any other candidate who differs from the party, whether you are going to vote for a 3rd party or not, I think its obscene the debates are so cut and dried. They as in other candidates not in the 2 party system, should be allowed to debate. I find them boring, in large part because the candidates rarely disagree radically on issues. When Mitt and Obama debate coming up, both are going to suggest terrorism is an issue, that we need to have gitmo open, that we need to fight terrorism and be engaged in wars, they will probably disagree on tactical issues, but the main point-the war and the validity and morality of it wont be discussed. And thats not representative of the american people and populace who overwhelmingly are opposed to the war. Thats why I dont identify as a liberal or democratic voter.
Debates and conventions should be open and all encompassing. It should be a place of debating ideas. The Democratic convention will be the same thing as the Republican.
Personally, electoral politics bores me. I dont think you change the system by voting in millionaires who by their very nature lie, cheat and steal.0 -
We're going way off topic but all I was saying is that i think a lot of Americans are blind, deaf, and dumb to whats really happening in the government. I mean we dont have check points in Canada. Our Prime Minister wasn't appointed by a judge, we dont legislate laws that would make it next to impossible to vote (for black/poor people) so they can win elections, we dont invade other countries under false pretenses, we dont blame the current PM for the fuck ups of the last guy or woman, and I think, as a whole, Canadians have a much better memory (meaning we remember who started the whole fucking mess in the states...it was GWB and that evil "DICK" Cheney  ). The only one candidate I think would turn your shit around would be Ron Paul IMO and he is consistently belittled and ignored by his own party (there is a hidden agenda and unless you are part of the 1% your fucked. So a vote for Romney will help the rich but not the middle class. All that said, Canada isn't perfect but its a hell of a lot more "free" than the US. We are a peace loving country not a war mongering one. Anyone disagree?? Nuff Said.0

Well, let's wait and see what lies they tell before we say they're "equally shameful."
Quite honestly, I don't think I agree with that AND I find the whole "well, it's a wash" argument a bit... off base.0 -

we can say they are equally shameful, and i personally do say it, and quite often. Obama is and was funded by primarily large financial institutions. No surprise then that the only real legislation he's gotten together in terms of dealing with the economy in 4 years was bailing out the same people who funded his campaign. That shouldnt be a surprise. Obama will not be offering a platform where he pulls troops out of afghanistan. He wont be dealing seriously with global warming. He's not going to do anything in terms of the economy. He wont shut down gitmo, and would get rid of warrentless wiretapping. Despite the fact his favorite show is the wire, he is for the drug war, and has done absolutely nothing to address racial inequality in the prison industrial complex and in american society in general. He's done nothing to address socioeconomic injustice. hell when was the last time you saw him talk about raising the minimum wage? To the contrary, he's pro war and how many countries now are we involved in other than afghanistan, now with drones flying about? he could be the worst president in history in terms of dealing with civil rights, civil liberties and racial issues.
His presidency was and is a failure and will be rightly and soundly rejected on election day. Im not a republican, in fact im a commie/socialist/anarchist, voting Ron paul.
The country is extremely mad right now. Its not just racist, tea baggers who hate him. Many people, have legitinate prblems with the last 4 years.
Look at it this way, if you were losing your farm, or your house was being foreclosed on in 2009 what strides have been made by ANYONE in electoral politics to address the situation.
Im unemployed, unemployable, in debt, and theres just no jobs. And thats just in terms of economic/labor issues. Obama, or for that matter Romney dont offer any type of future for me.
I couldnt be less interested in either party. One party will win in November, but lets face it, they are the only ones who are going to win. The american public loses no matter who gets into office.
One corporate buisness party with 2 right wings. Thats american "democracy" for you0 -

I agree with a lot of this, although I don't even view it as 2 right wings. I view it as 2 corrupt, lying, self-interested entities who are more similar than they are different.
We can talk about all of the usual issues - civil rights, jobs, abortion, same-sex marriage, etc., but those are all very insignificant compared to what really needs to be done - overhaul the way our government works and cut out the incredibly vast amounts of waste, unnecessary programs and grid lock.
You alluded to this, but it's quite ironic how nobody is yelling "get them home" regarding the troops or close Gitmo, etc. It really shows the bias out there.
Can anyone else really believe that we've been at war for 10 years now? When will it end? The other great wars of our history didn't drag on close to this long. The only people we should try to get even with...
...are those who've helped us.
Right 'round the corner could be bigger than ourselves.0
