I love this. This is like when my 8 year old complains that he's getting in trouble for something his brother would have done.

Why is it every time Obama is criticized your immediate reaction is - Bush WOULD have done that, too. First - who cares? Not relevant, as the OP did not say Bush is better than Obama as a premise. Second, even if he did - Bush is not up for re-election. Third - woulda, coulda, shoulda. How do you know? I say Obama would have invaded Iraq just as Bush did. The only difference is my evidence is that Obama basically followed the Bush plan of exit from Iraq. So, one could more readily extrapolate that his entire policy toward Iraq from the beginning would have been the same since his exit strategy was basically the same than that Bush would have done something that Obama did even though you admit the very tool in question wasn't even a plausible option at the time, so there's no direct extrapalatory measure.

anyhoo, isn't that what this discussion is about...or are we still blowing bush and showing him some much needed love...

While I generally agree with gimme's views I agree with Edson here. Any mention of Bush is irrelevant. We're talking about what actually happened this weekend, not what may have happened had Bush been president. It's the same thing that ticked me off when Bush was president and a democrat would point to something that Bush did followed by a republican pointing out things things that Clinton did. Bush is no longer president..let it go..we have to focus on the present and the future...not keep blaming the previous guy for mistakes we can't go back and change. How can there ever be meaningful dialog if people can't admit that "their guy" isn't doing everything right either and instead start talking about somethign irrelevant?

yet it's OK to blame O-bama for this arrest...interesting...

I do find it amusing that folks tend to forget that bush was ever President and lose there shit when he is mentioned...

well the fact that this Raub guy posted a threat of violence on facebook wassn't so great either and I would have to agree with you on this "more to the story" is it possible Raub was on a watch list already for other activitys or threats ???
still the bust was bad and Raub will walk in court of law I would think.

The no Miranda rights thing sucks but, yeah, I agree- this is not just a "current administration" thing. To classify it as such is just wrong.

do you think that people might be hypersensitive given the frequency of mass violence and shootings that we have these days?

if this guy had posted this, and everyone let it go as the raving of a lunatic and he went and hatchet chopped a group of kids, the same people would be complaining that nothing was done when all of the hints were there...

i could be wrong, but i thought i read somewhere that the reading of the miranda rights is no longer required. i thought i read about a court case that ruled that about a year ago. maybe 2. i don't know if it applied to state or federal laws and crimes...has anyone read that or am i crazy?

Brian - I don't think anyone disagrees with that. But 2 things:

    1) It doesn't matter what someone else would do. That's beside the point. So, because Murderer A (let's call him OJ) killed the same way as Murderer B, and OJ got off, Murderer B should get off? That's such bizarre logic. So, whatever this administration has done should be blamed on this administration. What others did or would have done is beside the point.

    2) I thought Obama was supposed to be better than Bush? So folks that hate Bush are admitting he's the same? That's even more bizarre. Haven't those folks been bashing Bush? If so, how do you not join the OP in bashing Obama if this is something Bush, Ashcroft, Cheney and the Devil would have done?

agreed that the arrest should have been legit. i don't know enough to make a good judgement call though.

but is it legal to tail someone without probable cause?

The sad unfortunate truth is - yes. But, not because of this. As others have said, it's a sorry state of affairs. We're voting for the best of a terrible lot. That being said, when I line up their resumes, 1 offers some glimmer of hope, while the other has proven a failure. So, Romney really is the easy choice once you peal away the diversionary issues and six degrees of Kevin Bacon game that folks are trying to play.
