The spreadsheet (linked on the FBO's site) gives contacts and phone numbers for each office and the total amount of rounds they requested.

Odd that St. Louis only requested 1,000 rounds and Manchester, NH needs 15,000 rounds.

I remember watching a Blues feed around Xmas and the Police Commissioner was on a commercial begging people not to fire their guns in the air on New Year's Eve.

yeah that is a legitimate concern, particularly in north city. it happens around the 4th of july too. i guess if you can't afford the big fireworks the people here shoot the firearms...

sorry to have derailed the thread. i can not access the link in the OP here at work for some reason. does it say why this ammo is necessary for the ssa?

A bit hard to tell on my end - looks like these folks are licensed to carry and this is the ammo being collectively requested.

Does anyone understand what a government "set aside" is?

    Websters defines it as:

A federal program requiring that a certain percentage of government funds and contracts be reserved for businesses owned by women and members of minority groups.

Something very fishy about this. Is this how Travolta got his ammo in Swordfish?

can't take to long to produce 174,00 rounds of ammo. we have the ammunition plant just across the way over here and it has been making bullets big & small for a very long time. they're a government outfit and employ many a workers and are inside guarded enterance ways and inside barbwire fencing all surrounded by corn & soybean fields. they used to mess with automatic energy back in the 50's-70's.

    174thousand .357 shells isn't shit really.

.357 is not the weaopn of choice...too much power the rounds usally go clean thru (entry and exit wound) so now I'm curious why they need .357 rounds ?

an agenda? and you are right about a few things. armed guards at government building generally carry a semi-automatic of some kind. a .44, .45, or a 9mm. is there a semi automatic .357 these days? a glock .357? i've only know of the .357 revolvers.

imagine a .357 with a 13 round clip up the butt of the thing (or whatever shell count) and one in the chamber. frickin on like donkey kong

 btw, what is wrong w/ in & out shell power? .357 is my favorite handgun round and my favorite cracking sound when set off. although a .44 magnum has some sound to 'em :corn:

I think it's just the issue with the power. Don't need the bullet carrying on so it may accidentally hit another person...

You solved and re-opened my conspiracy theory in the last 60 minutes! Guards needing ammo made sense (didn't seem efficient based on the bulk quantities, but this is the US government we are talking about). But purchasing ammo generally reserved for revolvers doesn't make sense.

    Hmm ...

I need DriftingbytheStorm's input on this one.

I had to get a new card a few years back. Unless the little old lady had a gun taped underneath her desk, I'm pretty sure I didn't see any guards. It was as exciting as going to the BMV.
