do you want them to put out a good album every 4 years, or a piece of crap every 6 months?

Well, its coming up on 10 years since their last good album, 12 since their last great one.
I love all of their albums.

God, I wish the biggest worry in my life was that Pearl Jam is playing a corporate convention.
    Yeah, it's pretty awesome.

I actually rank my worries on a fortnightly basis.....the PJ/Oracle show is my 135th biggest worry in life right now...just beat-out the Tomkat divorce (#136), but a nose behind the Robert Pattinson/Kristin Stewart scandal (#134).

Wait...I just spilled coffee on my desk..gotta worry about wiping it up, which makes it worry #9.....every worry from #10 & higher now moves down a spot!
Suziemay's worry #259: JOEJOEJOE reads Us Magazine!

Ever since the Olympics started, I have been reading the Daily Mail online...love the UK tabloids!

how many bands, successful bands, tour when they have no album to promote? since the last studio album, they have toured:

-nearly half the US (INCLUDING DATES IN THE SOUTH)
    -Canada
    -Europe
    -South America

AND HOSTED THEIR OWN WEEKEND FESTIVAL.

    what do you people expect???

and they aren't Kiss. do you want them to put out a good album every 4 years, or a piece of crap every 6 months?
I'm with you. I will never complain about their touring schedule. They have every right to tour as much or as little as they want. They obviously have good reasons for their schedule and how much they tour. I.e., they don't want to tour that much. That's seems like a damned good reason to me!! I don't want to go see them perform when they don't even want to be there!
I'm less disappointed by the 'number of live shows' aspect of this, than I am about the philosophical aspect. PJ has played here only 3 times in 20+ years, and I don't feel entitled to live shows. That's 3 shows more than Radiohead has played here over a similar career arc.
What bothers me is that they seem to be testing the boundaries of what the fans will accept of them as a corporate entity, after building their mystique, and fan loyalty, as a working man's band for years and years...I know it's been a slow progression, but this is the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back for a lot of people, it would seem.....Whether testing our acceptance of this stuff is a conscious decision or not remains to be seen...if it's a conscious one, thats a bit of a drag to me, because it seems like they are saying 'oh well' about the feelings of the people who admired that about them. .....if it's NOT a conscious decision, it seems they might be losing touch a bit with what helped set them apart from other great rock bands. If they don't want their message and integrity to set them apart from other great bands any longer, fine. It seems they don't worry about that anymore. Whatever....I'm not losing sleep over it, nor selling my Missoula tickets....but it does tarnish my image of them as a model for doing things differently - doing things 'their way', keeping it all about the music etc....that's the bottom line for me here.

I guess that fact doesn't really change my thoughts on this any. Would it be different if they played a conference for teachers or police officers? It still wouldn't be open to the general public and only a limited percentage of the population would be able to attend. I just don't get worked up about a decision to do 1 show that isn't open to everyone. Sure I'd rather they do a US tour but hopefully that happens next year. I feel very fortunate that I'll be able to go to this as I'm not able to make the other festivals this year.

No worries, the discussions get heated on here very quickly. I don't understand getting worked up on the internet, it's easy for people to say something behind a keyboard, kind of gives people "beer muscles" In the end, I don't think this one show makes much of a difference in the big picture, I can't believe people would stop following PJ over something like this.

Let's just hope for a new album and more shows next year so we can have some positive threads on here!
wouldn't be any different for me. It's a convention. I agree with my2hands (never thought Id say that in his AMT days ;) ).....playing a convention is just plain lame, no matter how we try to justify it. My slightly less rabid pj fan friend totally grimaced when I told him about this...and asked if they'd be doing a casino tour soon. I'm not really worked up about any of this, just disappointed and I guess feeling a little nostalgic. Enjoy the show (and good luck with the business end of the convention too!)

True....we'd be better off with all of those riveting, hugely important, long-ass baseball threads rep'n our biggest worries, right? ;)

Thanks! I can't argue with that, although I'll take a lame show over no shows at all  It will be interesting for sure to see how the crowd reacts when they play a song that isn't from Ten or Vs and also interesting to see how the band reacts to a (as you said) lame crowd. I wonder if we'll ever find out the details behind why they agreed to play this show.

I'm late to thread, since I have been out of pocket all week. But I have to say, I am disappointed. However, I've heard through the grapevine that this isn't the first corporate/private gig the boys have done.

Things have changed. They have families now. I know I would like to be a punk rock kid with my finger to the man, but I have a family to support and that steers me in a different direction. I kind of wish this show was before Montana. That Montana show would make everyone forget they even played this.

I'll stay away from the lame shows myself... If I went to a country fair and Led Zeppelin got on stage, and probably start crying rather than cheering!!

They don't need to do this to take care of their families. Just because someone has a family doesn't necessarily lead to people doing lame shit. This family excuse doesn't fly AT ALL.

I'm not buying the Latrell Sprewell argument here. They have plenty of cash to support their family. If things took a turn for the worst I would expect this kind of thing.

I know what you mean and that's easy to say now, but the night of the show when the lights go down and they walk out on stage and start playing, the music is going to sound just the same. I'm excited. And I'd take Zeppelin any place I could get them too! :D

weak; inadequate; unsatisfactory; clumsy: a lame excuse.

    4.
Slang . out of touch with modern fads or trends; unsophisticated.

Pearl Jam is not either of these.
