Well that's a bloody good reason! i like both Smashing Pumpkins and Soundgarden and glad they are both still making music, as long as they are still making great music. I'm just a little concerned about the Baby Blue suit and silk scarf..... :?

I just think a lot of reunion's are based purely on money and playing a bunch of festivals and half full arena's is kinda a waste of time.
Yeah but if it was just a cash and grab I don't think they would be bothering with a new record - a record they've taken their time over so that they deliver something of the standard people expect from them.
I think money plays a part for pretty much every band - including Smashing Pumpkins for that matter, Billy knows that the name Smashing Pumpkins will always draw more attention than any other label he chooses to apply to his music.

oh I agree a new record means they have some lust for music making still and it isn't ALL for the money but I just wonder about the intentions for reasons for bands coming back after years apart.
yes I'm not corgan's biggest fan by any stretch.. he is one part crazy but he does make same pretty good points I might add.

So why isn't William still going strong with Zwan? Because the name "Smashing Pumpkins" sells better. He can have his opinions, but they are quite hipocritical.

I posted this in another thread, but how much of his ranting do you think is trying to live up to his image? It was a poor choice, imo, as an image, but it sure gets him in the "news" quite a bit. He can come off as an intelligent individual and there's usually some truth to what he say, but he Corganizes it and loses pretty much all tact and credibility generally. I know he has a pro wrestling promotion and I don't hear him slagging off the few companies that are at the top of the heap, granted I don't spend the majority of my life following that stuff.
I'm halfway between here, I think the lure of summer dollars is a big factor and as much as I have faith in the writing abilities of the Soundgarden members I'm not expecting to be be bowled over by the new record when it comes. I do hope I'm wrong though. If they'd done a reunion purely based on a greatest hits package and a handful of festival shows they'd be labeled sell outs but a new album is at least their justification for being together as writers not just performers. It's always going to come down to money at the end of the day. Who wouldn't do the same in their shoes though? I do feel that the time since they disbanded is quite a stretch to expect the greatness of Badmotorfinger or Superunknown but a Down On The Upside standard record is pretty feasable and would be ok. Billy Corgan though is a complete twat who never knows when to keep his opinions to himself but I still love him despite that and as much as he is flogging a pretty wounded horse with SP you have to give him some credit for being passionate and trying. He is one of the best songwriters of the last 20 years and if you're a fan you hang on to the chance that the original line-up might play a show again someday. Doubt it though which is probably for the best....

Adelaide BIG DAY OUT 2014
He is so jealous of everyone it seems these days, didn't think he would turn into such a bitter person. I think he's just upset that the only reason people go to see him at the club size venues he has to play is for Siamese Dream or maybe Mellon Collie if he is in fact able to sell a ticket anymore. Nobody cares about Oceania even if it's good.
So why isn't William still going strong with Zwan? Because the name "Smashing Pumpkins" sells better. He can have his opinions, but they are quite hipocritical.

agreed. Also, soundgarden is working on a new record, so it's not necessarreley about playing hits. They felt like getting together and making music, just like he did with a new incarnation of SP.
Dude, seriously. You are like E News (unfair & unbalanced) posting these things that are clearly designed to instigate bashing of a decent human being - which, last time I checked, you or anyone here has met before.

Sorry Chris, didn't mean to take the piss. I am an equal opportunity offender though, if Ed had worn that I would have said the same thing. I think Smashing Pumpkins are amazing, one of my favourites forever.

one thing I will say about billy is he is all over the place with his opinions.. very hypocritical and seems to never stand with one side of an argument. One year will be bashing someone next year will be lauding them as great. I do respect the man, but he is complicated.

I pretty much agree with everything you said there
Sometimes Billy makes it hard to be an SP fan. He may well have a point when he says that reunions are only about the money, but he wouldn't admit that is the same reason for using the SP name again. He's had some truly awe-inspiring moments as a songwriter but they're usually followed by a rant like this.

Yeah? So you don't think they might have laboured over a new record because they actually enjoy creating music together?
