Nope. In order for a government to take in tax revenue and spend, creating infrastructure and blah blah blah... some sort of economic activity (business) needs to be the predecessor. That's where they get their money for their existence.

personally, I think the chicken came first...you know, since it had to lay the egg...

but, where did the egg come from...? ahhh, the chicken laid the egg... :?

um, this is so confusing and meaningless...we have chickens and eggs...who gives fuck who was first....?

I agree - it's stupid to bring up. That's why the President never should have. And those defending his POV, like PoD did, shouldn't either.

really, "Never"...? why....? and so what if he did...?

"Didn't Pay Taxes for 10 Years"

where did you hear that from again? Source please.

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney said Thursday that he has paid a tax rate of at least 13 percent on his income in each of the last 10 years, offering his fullest explanation to date of his tax status.

“I did go back and look at my taxes and over the past 10 years I never paid less than 13 percent. I think the most recent year is 13.6 or something like that. So I paid taxes every single year,” he told reporters Thursday.

In response to pressure from his rivals during the Republican primaries, Romney released his 2010 tax return in January, showing he paid 13.9 percent on his $21.7 million in 2010 income. His campaign said that in his comments to reporters Thursday, he meant to indicate he’d paid 13.9 percent--not 13.6 percent---in his most recent tax year.

But Romney said Thursday that Reid’s charge is “totally false” and that he has, in fact, paid taxes every year. He complained the tax issue has been a distraction during a time when the country faces tough challenges.
“I just have to say, given the challenges that America faces – 23 million people out of work, Iran about to become nuclear, one out of six Americans in poverty – the fascination with taxes I’ve paid I find to be very small-minded compared to the broad issues that we face,” he said.

“I’m sure waiting for Harry to put up who it was that told him what he says they told him. I don’t believe it for a minute, by the way,” he said.

Romney’s answer on taxes--which came at the end of a news conference devoted to other issues--appeared to be a follow-up to a response he gave ABC’s David Muir in an interview last month.

Muir asked whether Romney had ever paid less than the 13.9 percent he paid last year.

“I haven’t calculated that,” Romney said then. “I’m happy to go back and look, but my view is I’ve paid all the taxes required by law.”

Democrats have said Romney’s own tax records are an illustration of the ways the wealthy can use looholes and tax shelters to lower their payments to the government. Romney’s tax rate is lowered by the fact that most of his annual income comes from investments, which are taxed at 15 percent, far below what he would pay on ordinary income.

They have pushed him to follow the model of his father, George Romney, who released 12 years worth of tax records while running for president in 1968.

In an interview with NBC’s “Rock Center” this week, the candidate’s wife Ann Romney insisted the couple planned to make no additional tax information public.

She said they have been “very transparent to what’s legally required of us.”

“Mitt is honest. His integrity is just golden,” she said.

President Obama’s 2011 tax return showed that he paid an effective rate of 20.5 percent.

    what's mitt hiding...?

    :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

I almost choked to death when I heard her say that. I think he's changed his Medicare position 3 times in the last week.

Obviously none of us knows what taxes Mitt did or didn't pay. If you want to take him for his word, well, you're more than welcome to do that. :?

I thought I'd let you know what it felt like to be trolled with misinformation, but I'm done now. I don't actually believe he didn't pay income tax for 10 years; the IRS would've audited him I'd think. But the fact that he (purportedly) pays 13%-14% while suckers like me pay >30% is a god damn disgrace, and Ryan's budget wants to cut his tax rate to 0.56%.

    Woot.

What he meant has greater undertones that you are playing out.

He went off saying that people don't succeed because they're smart or work hard ... his proof was there's a whole lot of smart hard working people out there - basically saying all of those can't be successful, there's only so many spots. Right there - I call bullshit. I say - if you're smart and hardworking then you're going to be successful. The spots are exponential.

He went on to say if you've got a business - you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen.

Then he rambled on about how the government created the fucking internet and started talking about fighting fires.

Bottom line though - he basically said individualized choices aren't what makes things happen. He's wrong. I understand why he thinks that - it's his ideological stance - he's a collectivist. He was trying to say other people help in various ways and he's right they sure do, but they decide "individually" to help. That's why he doesn't understand. We don't control other people - we only control our individual self. I am mine. That sort of thing.

    Collectivism is bullshit.

The owner of a Virginia bakery gave Vice President Biden's advance team an answer they probably don't hear too often: No.

Chris McMurray, owner of "Crumb and Get It" bakery in southwestern Virginia, reportedly refused to let Biden stop by his store Wednesday because of concerns he had about President Obama's "you didn't build that" remark. The president made the controversial comment last month in Roanoke, Va., just miles from McMurray's bakery.

"This is an opportunity of a lifetime, but essentially I said, 'No offense to you or the campaign but I just decline you guys coming in here,'" McMurray told WDBJ7.

He said the Biden staffer asked if he was sure, since there would be lots of press and activity. Biden was wrapping up a tour of southern Virginia Wednesday.

But McMurray reportedly said he objected to the "you didn't build that" line.

"Speaking of small businesses and entrepreneurs all across this country, and actually last night my wife was up all night. No sleep, she's worked a full 24 hours," he said.

He and his wife Kelly run the shop.

Obama said "you didn't build that" in the course of discussing government investments -- like roads -- that have helped business owners thrive.

Democrats have suggested the president was merely saying small businesses didn't build that infrastructure, but Republicans and some local business owners interpreted it as questioning American entrepreneur's contribution to their own businesses.

Well, I've built trails outside my parents house to get to my friend house when I was a kid. I wanted to get through the woods to his house. Just like private markets built the original roads in this country.... seeking ummm... "trade". Hmmm. Trade... that reeks of business. Yep, private enterprise was the ACTUAL originator of roadways. Government got involved much, much later.

Maybe you're feeling a bit slow today, so let's go back to what I already said.

Each "individual" makes choices - me, you, my homebuilders. This is something collectivist have a hard time understanding. For example, the folks who built my house - they went to work each day individually. They each individually made that decision. Each one could have left, in fact for all I know one or two did. Each person who continued did so because of what they received back (be it pay, reward of a finished product, time with fellow workers, etc.)

It was not the work of this collective force, but the work of a bunch of individuals (each with their own incentives) working on a project in order to receive individualized rewards - bridging the gap, these rewards could even include the reward of being part of a group. Anyway, that's how group projects happen. That's reality.

Collectivists typically have a hard time understanding reality, so maybe we'll need to revisit this.
