Anyone experience them live? Going to be in my town couple weeks before I travel to see Ed. Thought it would be appropriate to see them. Reviews say it is a fabulous performance----tix are a bit pricey. Any thoughts?

They are entertaining and definitely worth the price of admission if you have not seen them before. Plus, Quadrophenia is a masterpiece. But they are NOTHING compared to The Who of the 70's, when Moon and Entwistle were still alive and the band was in their prime. Those bootlegs are ridiculously good.

saw them back in 2006 and they were really good. i agree that they obviously aren't the same as the 70's Who but to see all the classics with Daltrey and Townshend was well worth the price of admission.

I saw them 5 or 6 years ago right after Entwhistle died. Wasn't sure how it would be, but it's up there as one of my top 5 concerts of all time - they were absolutely INCREDIBLE! Roger & Pete definitely gave it their all and really looked like they were having a great time doing it. You're gonna have a great time, enjoy!

I saw them a few years back, 2008 or 2009, at Hope Estate Winery in the Hunter Valley when they toured Australia. They had so much energy and put on a great show. I would definitely see them again given the chance. Support was Counting Crows which was an added bonus

  • I highly recommend you go see them!
I first saw them in 1971 at the Spectrum! :D What I remember most is that both Townshend and Moon destroyed their instruments at the end of the show, and that before the concert, while waiting in line, all of us were given copies of the "Won't Get Fooled Again" 45. (I still have mine! )

Then I saw them again in the late nineties when they were touring Quadrophenia-fantastic show!

    Go and enjoy!!

I saw them once. It was the last tour before John Entwhistle passed away. I think it was in 2000?

It was a the gorge. It was a great show. I'm really glad I went. They have so many good songs and Roger Daltrey does't seem to age. It makes for a good show.

I saw them in '08 with my dad, it was extremely special to me. When I was born, my dad found it his duty to introduce me to The Who, his favorite band of all time. I took to the music immediately, and have fond memories of listening to and singing along to The Who with my dad in his car. In the '60s, my dad saw The Who twice, one of those times being at Woodstock. Fast forward 39 years to 2008....I saw The Who were playing 2 days after my 16th birthday and begged for him to get us tickets to see them together. Though it was pricey (he splurged on absolutely fantastic seats), we had one amazing time. You obviously can't expect Pete & Roger to sound like they did in the '70s, but for their age, they put on one HELL of a show. Pino Palladino and Zak Starkey are fabulous musicians, and of course while they're not Keith or John, played very well. I believe they'll be returning this tour.

That concert is the concert that made me want to go to as many live shows throughout my life as possible. I had only seen two concerts previous to The Who, which were distant memories after that Who show. It basically slapped me in the face, showed me the power of live music, and brought me so much joy! So after all that ranting, I think it's pretty clear I think you should go, as it will be worth it!

Closest I ever got was in 1979 during a live broadcast at The Rialto Theater in Joliet, Illinois.

Kenney Jones from The Faces had recently replaced Keith Moon after he died from an overdose.
    Posimists. Fuck the pessimists...fuck'em.
  • You're going to have a fucking blast. Even without Keith and John, the Who still brings down the house. Aside from PJ they are the band I've seen the most number of times (6 plus Pete solo, also tremendous by the way).
For me, Townshend IS rock n roll.
    Enjoy!!

Rollicking versions of 'Baba', 'Won't Get Fooled Again' 'Who Are You' and numerous other hits. Would see them again at the drop of a hat!

Saw them in 1980 :0 I know....way back then, only Keith was no longer there and it was amazing. I am going to see them in Montreal in November but I hope Pete can sing. He did not sing his section in Baba O'Riley at the Olympic closing ceremony...:(

I don't think that had anything to do with Pete being unable to sing. Roger said that the vocals had to be pre-recorded and dubbed at the event so I'm guess he just handled all of it rather than have Pete record 2 lines. And I noticed Pete was singing back up.

You will enjoy it when he sings Drowned in November. 8-)

I have seen them twice. 2006 and 2007 for the endless wire tour. They were great. Yes, tickets can be pricey, but it is worth it. Also saw Roger on one of his solo tours a few years ago. Will be seeing the Quadrophenia tour in Feb as well.

You're going to Tulsa, right? I haven't got tickets yet but I've decided I'm in for that one.

yeah, we are going to Tulsa. One of our friends in thinking of going to other shows, as well, and I told him Tulsa was do able for me, otherwise, I was out. He got us 10th row on Pete Townsends side through American Epress Pre sale. These buddies I am going with are like with the who, how I am with PJ. That's cool you have decided on Tulsa. Seems like the who dates are pretty set in stone, don't really leave room for guessing, which I like. If they do an additional leg, they are at least up front about it, and it's planned well in advance. At leat I thought so for the 2006-2007 tour, which enabled us to go to OKC and see them once more in March 2007, after Dallas in Nov 2006.

10th row on Pete's side will be awesome! Yeah, I think they may add one or two more shows but nothing more than that. My prince has decided that going to Tulsa will be good but he didn't want to travel anywhere else. I'm still trying to decide if I'll travel to another show. I say probably not but when the tour gets started I have a feeling I'll get caught up in it and want to make another show.

I'm probably a Who fan kind of like your buddies.

I always would love to travel for pj or better yet, have them come back here, but it's too expensive, it's been east/ west coasts the last two albums. Don't have any pj friends or family ouside TX, well kind of, but Ed plays solo shows there. Seeing him 2x in November, here in Houston, so that works well for me.

Who shows have always impressed me, even now. Wish I could have seen John play, but they still put on a hell of a show! looking forward to this yet again. Always thought it was weird, how Peteand Rog, don't really get along, but yet Roger still took Simon Townsend out on solo tours, and he plays in the who now too. But I have always heard Pete and Roger are not real cool with each other at all, and fight alot.. am I wrong?

I haven't really traveled to shows other than the VH1 Rock Honors but I've met so many other fans from around the country on line or in other ways. For a few years, several of us used to all meet up at the ACL fest in Austin. But The Who have this habit of touring when I'm between jobs, things like that, when travel isn't exactly practical. I'm thinking with this tour that I have enough lead time to plan for at least one more show. I'm leaning toward Cali, just haven't decided.

I'm fortunate (and old!) enough to have seen Keith and John. If the band isn't what it was in the 70s, they're still rockin and it's still a thrill for me to see them. They play their hearts out.

As far as Pete and Roger not getting along, whenever people talk about that I think of this picture:

    peteandroger.jpg

I think it's in the Maximum R&B dvd that Roger says that the band functioned on competition. 4 very different personalities. The new Quad documentary had some insight on that too. Pete and Roger disagree on some of the things about the band (Pete says Keith was a "sloppy" drummer, Roger says Pete's wrong about that, etc.). I saw posts on some message boards to the effect of "It's a shame that Pete and Roger don't get along after all these years." I don't know if that's true but I know that they still work together and perform together. For the sake of their music, I think that's the bottom line. If they aren't BFFs outside of the band I don't think it matters. They publicly bickered in the past but they seemed to have moved beyond that years ago. I think now they do it jokingly.

I thought the Quad documentary showed them pleasantly disagreeing. I'd known for years about the famous fist fight during the Quad rehearsals, when Roger knocked Pete out. But it was revealing to hear both of them tell the story all these years later. These are 2 very different men with strong personalities who have had conflict but still have affection for each other. Long live rock!

Amazing Journey: The Story of The Who dvd, also talks bout the relationship between Pete and Roger and how it' had it's ups and downs

i saw the who at the rock honors a few years ago and i thought they were amazing and sounded really really great. granted it was only 13 songs, it still was one of the best concerts i've seen. it was many years worth the wait.

A friend of mine and I saw The Who in (if I remember correctly) January, 1968 at The San Jose Civic Auditorium-- around the time when "Magic Bus" was released.

The opening band was Blue Cheer. Freaky! Awesome! Blue Cheer's set was a raging storm that quite literally made The Who seem tame. I thought they had gotten a girl to play drums. He was gorgeous and freaky in long flowing blonde hair. But as much as I was totally engrossed by Blue Cheer's set I had a spitting head ache during intermission.

The Who set was fantastic. They didn't play as loud in those days so the sound was strong but not overpowering. My head ache vanished quickly as each familiar song filled the air. The band was great that night! My buddy and I had second row seats just left of center- a little bit closer to Roger Entwistle. Roger was the epitome of cool and his fluid bass lines were incredible. Keith Moon was in top shape- a blur of arms accenting and punctuating every song perfectly - he just blew us away. Roger Daltrey's voice was in fine form and he had already perfected his moves including throwing the mike and catching exactly on beat- every time! And Pete Townshend was great. He seemed really focused- no bull shit. Played the songs with full attention, did the windmill, threw the guitar up in the air a few time, made his body and guitar into an "x" front and back and set off the smoke bombs to feedback. Perfect.
