I played in high school in Minnesota, and have played regular men's leagues since.

Anyone else?

Final game senior year of high school I was the last one off the ice and haven't even put skates on since then. I don't know how the rec league guys do it? I'm way to competitive for those. :fp: I played goal...and let's just say that Ron Hextall and Billy SMith had nothing on me when it came to "stickwork".

Hopefully the rest of your squad was balanced out a few skinny guys and one fat one.

Thankfully, our leagues are pretty competitive. The league we've got is a nice mix of high-school +, so its pretty competitive. No checking, but physical play is alright. We've got a few D-1 guys on our team and a handful of D-3 kids. The rest of us played high-school.

Masks aren't required, although I found out the hard way that they are definitely in your best interest. I caught 4 stitches in the chin a few years ago...so yeah. I'm a mask guy now.

Yeah, no reason to be getting cut or losing teeth. I've got a buddy who coaches youth hockey and he constantly tries to get me out there with him. He has actually coached against Barry Melrose who coaches here locally to.

Ooh...I hope he piss-pounded Melrose's squad. Can't stand Melrose. Once a year, he pretends he cares about college hockey and does color for the NCAA tournament...the rest of the year, he spends his time ruminating on what a shitty NHL coach he was.

I played for 8 years as a kid, then discovered alcohol and girls.....quit playing for 17 years....then started playing men's league again about 6 years ago. Our league is non-contact...slapshots allowed...visors/masks optional. We have dental/optic insurance, but only if we wear visors and mouthguards....so I wear them. Visor took a while to get used to....mouth piece still makes me gag once in a while ....
The games at the start of the season, while they're placing the new teams in appropriate divisions, are a bit of a joke....I had this one guy go around me like five times in a game (I play D), so I googled him afterward...he played four seasons in the NHL :o ....Div A is pretty much full of former NHL and major junior guys....I play in div E  It's still competitive as hell....our playoffs last year were intense - we were dq'd from the final after the other team called us for having an ineligible player in the 3rd, while we were winning (long story, we didn't know he was)....can't wait to meet them next year
I love hockey...I will play in a seniors league if I can....

He's played Melrose's team a bit becasue it's the same league. My buddy says he's actually a nice guy...off the ice...behind the bench he coaches like he was still in the NHL.

guess it looks kinda binary, doesn't it?
....not sure why I wrote the dates like that, other than to be a pain in the ass.
Actually, bro123 made me an Oilers banner a few years back, I should dig that out (full circle topic tie-in  )

I try to play any chance I get but the only times I could get on the ice, I am stuck working. On Sat nights they have stick practice from 10-midnight, but I am usually pretty toasted by then to put on skates.

Got as far as High school hockey, now its the beer league. Took alot of yrs to realize the beer league is for fun and we aren't trying to make the NHL anymore :lol::lol: But very hard to switch that competitive mode off and play for fun.

In college I dated our hockey team's goalie....all I really remember from that relationship is the team having to dump their gear in the foyer of our dorm building because there was some issue with the locker room and him having to shower like 3 times after every game/practice...

I've never smelled anything worse in my life

    Thus endeth the relationship

Why the hate on the goalie? :fp:

No hate for him - he was super awesome actually! Just smelled like a dirty locker room!

Got as far as High school hockey, now its the beer league. Took alot of yrs to realize the beer league is for fun and we aren't trying to make the NHL anymore :lol::lol: But very hard to switch that competitive mode off and play for fun.
I play with an edge
I find it impossible to play hockey without an edge...very few guys can laugh off a shoving match in front of the net...I still take numbers and wait for a chance for a slash to the calf, or a little butt-end to the ribs

I played competitively from age 5 to 21. Finished up at U of Delaware. At 5'9" 160lb, I was glad I made it that far. I've lived in Ireland for the last 8 years, the country without an ice rink, so although I have my skates with me they don't get used any more.

Because its usually the goalie's fault...

...and she probably ended the relationship because as everyone knows, kickers, horse jockeys, relief pitchers, parking meter attendants, college dorm residence hall advisors, guys named "Joel," people who wear turtle necks, wedding DJs and goalies are all fucking weirdos.

    Sorry!
