It is a blurred line Godfather. I would put Tim McVeigh in the 'non hate crime' type terrorist attack as his action were definitely politically motivated against the government. It was a government building he bombed, didn't care about race/religion of those inside. He could have probably bombed any other federal building elsewhere. He was 'protesting' against government actions at Waco (and another thing but I forgot). Sure, he had hate in his heart but not directed at the people. So, for me, 'non hate'.

On the other hand, the Twin Towers, for me is a 'hate' terrorist attack. Whilst obviously politically motivated and the terrorists looking to make a 'grand impression', I believe it could only have been held in the US, targeting buildings full of americans (or 'similar'). I don't believe that if buildings existed in the US but full of muslims, such buildings would have been attacked. Thus mega hate in that one.

Very subtle difference and I'm not sure I'm expressing this clearly.

What I would like to add that, in order to perpetrate such acts, one has to have hate in his/her heart - whoever/whatever this hate is aimed at.

To me, this shooting seems 'personal' but, as I said, until we know his motives.....

XLNT explination well said, I agree with you 100%

Very sad and fucked up situation.

Sad too that anyone expressing sympathy has to be singled out and their words or compassion deemed suspicious and fake.

    Such is life these days.

It has nothing to do with the guy. It has to do with the paranoia of MANY gun owners who feel they need to be strapped everywhere they go.

No i believe we have way to many guns in this country and not enough regulatory laws in place , but you seem to think the answer is we need more of them that is where we differ .....

still the paranoid are out numbered by the responsible gun owners...just had a thought..
there might be more or as many regestered guns than cars in America..maybe ? maybe not ?
and I'm willing to bet that more people die in car related accidents than by guns, what do you think...maybe ?

I think we make people prove they can operate a car before we license them to use one and if they show they can't responsibly operate them, we take that license away.

The car thing (and toaster and jet ski and....) has been done ad nauseam in the other thread. Maybe we can have this one without?

either way it doesn't matter.. cars have an inherent reason to be around.. guns only to kill.

one thing to consider with this line of thought GF is the # of of owners of each. I would think you find a significant # of gun owners own mulitple , 2+ guns , where as there are more single car owners.

Whilst this shooting does question ease of access to guns, it raises different questions/points to the Aurora shooting. For me, both nutters (yep, I use that term) that shouldn't have been able to purchase guns due to various issues but motivation for the killing is very different. One seemingly without real motivation but the other driven by racial hatred (it would seem, especially if he was part of a group). Two different 'root' issues that need to be tackled but with the 'running' issue of gun laws/control.

This , as i know it there isn't any test that you have to take to purchase any guns just have to have the $$$$$$ , so if you purchase a gun when you are 21 yrs old and then decide to purchase more weapons when you are 55 you don't have to take any test to see if your mentally stable ....
