Covers: The Who vs. Neil Young
Obviously, these are two of the most covered bands by PJ, meaning most of us have seen the covers live.
So, which band do you prefer to see PJ cover?
The Who (Baba O'Riley/The Real Me)
...or
Neil Young (RITFW etc).
Me personally? I like Neil originals far more than The Who, but I like PJ covers of The Who better. Weird...

Ive seen the big three by Neil Young: RITFW, F'In Up, Harvest Moon
I would rank them like this:
1. RITFW
2. F'In Up
3. Baba
4. Love Reign
5. Harvest Moon
6. The Real Me
So Neil wins!

But I would rather have them pick new NY covers than new The Who covers.
In fact just yesterday while listening to Baba on my ipod at work I thought to myself, PJ is due to learn some new Who covers. Or at least bring back some of the ones that were only done a couple of times, ie. The Seeker.
All the shows I've been to ended with Yellow Ledbetter.....all 7 of them!
That being said.....I love Neil covers better.

hmm...pearl jam should pull a tour like metallica did (garage days) - go in small clubs play 2h of covers and then get them on air via radio!!!

I agree. They've been their, done that.
I'd love to see them to do an early Ramones cover or two.
25 MINUTES!
Peace.

I can't forget the whole 10 day trip! But Berlin 2 will definitely be forever etched in my mind!!
And a who wouldn't want to hear a littly Johnny followed by a little Neil?

Seen RITFW, Harvest, Sugar Mountain & Needle and the Damage Done (ed solo 2009) all amazing in their own right.
BABA!

I prefer no covers
I would like the band to stop playing Baba and RITFW so much. Maybe two to three times a 20 show tour. Make them more special to hear.
What Pearl Jam needs to do is write some songs that could be show closers. They haven't written a song that can close a show since Vitalogy. They have written great songs, but none can close a show out like Alive, Porch, RVM, Even Flow, or Better Man. So they resort to covers, these awesome covers.
I always thought Parting Ways or All Those Yesterdays would be a great show closer. I'd certainly rather hear them over a cover anyway...

As for them writing new closers, dunno, I like the closing with Ledbetter on last nights/one off's. It's just the way it should be. Would love to hear the band do Parting Ways though.
Yeah, nice one Dimi.. I quite fancy Corduroy or Even Flow too. Either would be a guaranteed high octane finale!!

Of the Earth is a good example. Write some songs that Mike and Stone can jam on and trade off solos that can fill 6-8 minutes at the end of the show where the crowd can just rock out (before they bring out Ledbetter, Indifference, Parting Ways, etc...).

Love Reign O'er Me is definitely the best cover I have ever heard and I think Boom agrees with me as he really is awesome at the opening!!
