Simply outstanding. Great start with Don't Be Shy, I Am Mine and Can't Keep. Can't believe I've seen Off He Goes twice in a month Crazy Mary solo is unreal, such a great version. The re-arranged version of Betterman was nice. Long Road was incredible, so haunting. Speed Of Sound = Incredible. Falling Slowly was simply beautiful, a massive highlight. Loved Porch, especially when Ed kept slowing it down. Thought the roof might blow off the building during that, the crowd was mental. Great singing on Small Town, Ed handed over the vocals to the crowd. The encores were amazing. During RIFTW, you could feel the balcony shaking and Hard Sun is just so fucking cool.
Shame about Glen's set. There was people talking but the bar is in the main area. It's just one of those things. I'm sorry but those not at the gig commenting on here having a go at a crowd you weren't at - how disrespectful are you being????
But when Glen unplugged his guitar mid-song and played accapella - that was one hell of a moment. Could hear a pin drop. It was a magical moment and one that might not have happened otherwise.

The crowd in general were pretty annoying with their attention seeking shouting at certain parts (what the hell was up with the "What did you have for breakfast?" guy and the woman who decided she needed to finish off Ed's story for him?!), but at least people in my immediate vicinity were perfectly pleasant.
Great set, loved the version of Betterman, and sooooooooo glad to hear the demo version of Speed of Sound.
BTW does anyone have any youtube videos with the same version of Betterman (doesn't have to be at manc)?
First of all, totally agree there were loads of annoying assholes in crowd. The girl interrupting Eddie's story when everyone was quiet and tried to listen...WTF?! Also loads of people running back and forth to the bar during eddies set, also annoying.
BUT, awesome show, fantastic setlist!! Untitled into Off he goes was one of my best concert memories ever, I honestly cried when I heard. Off he goes means so much to me! Porch was awesome! Lukin, Speed of sound, can't keep as well!!
Oh,btw, I think they did betterman at the bridge school last time in the same way, it's on YouTube.
London x2 here we go!!

So, so amazing! The highlights for me were Guaranteed, Speed of Sound (cried buckets at those two), Sleepless Nights and Arc. The merchandise stall was ridiculous and the nearer you got to the counter, the more you got packed in so you could hardly move. They should have had a queue system, I'm sure that would have moved things along quickly. My friend and I were through the doors at about 7.10, went straight to the merchandise and ended up missing the whole of Glen Hansard's spot. Sat down at 8.15. I agree about the annoying shouters...that woman totally ruined the end of the story by yelling out "ONLY REAL WHEN SHARED!" and Eddie's face was like "you just killed it". And the breakfast guy? Why??! :nono:
Anyhow, despite these little annoyances, it was the most fantastic night. We laughed, cried, sang and danced and just like at PJ Manchester 2 last month, we got soaked. Eddie seems to bring the rain with him when he visits! I could have happily stayed in that theatre, in that moment, forever :-D
I wish I was going to the London gigs, but so happy I got to see last night's show and will be buzzing for ages now. For those that are going and haven't seen Eddie live before, be ready for a powerful, emotional rollercoaster ride. For those that have, you know what I'm talking about!
Only donwer was the tiny merchandise stall.. which made me miss Glen :(
...that's when I left the queue... when I heard Glen come on. Had barely moved in the time I'd been standing there waiting like a lemon, so just thought, screw it... would prefer to listen to the music.

It seems you get quite a few people yelling shit out during EV gigs. I remember reading similar stuff on his USA tour last year. It is annoying, I guess people like the attention doing it. Same thing happened at Cornell too. We had 3 lads sat in front of us and they talked all the way through and kept getting up for drinks. They were only interested for PJ songs got played. Maybe I'm elitist or a PJ/EV snob

that really sucks about the merch :(
in amsterdam the carre was open from 5 to pick up tickets and there were folk at the merch stand so me and my boyfriend bought stuff there and then, which was great cuz it meant we had plenty of time to take it back to our hotel (which was great cuz it meant there would be no risk of vinyl breaking or posters getting crushed ) and meant that we could get there in time to see Glen's set
best live music experience of my live.....to date. kinda struggling to find words to say how good it , long road was spellbinding , sometimes ...wow, untitled, off he goes, then the material from into the wild  the sing alongs on elderly woman , porch , ritw were epic
forget which song it was but the balcony was bumping up and down at one point
thanks eddie. please come back soon
the merch fiasco (which i knew would happen knowing the venue and how much we like our posters/shirts etc) and the bar being directly behind the stage didnt help the situation with glen, which, i did feel very bad for glenn for. i think most people subconsciously talk when finding their seats (in the dark) i dont think they meant to disrespect glenn, so put a few thousand people doing so all at once and its going to over power the singer. when glenn spoke out against it most people shut up . well done glenn
very cool for ed to invite ognen to the stage

Eddie surpassed my expectations with this. Outstanding show
Arc was really something and I thought that he should end the show with that, just spellbinding.
Picture in the Frame was also amazing
Inregards to Glen a number of issues:
1. Doors didn't open early enough before he came on stage.
2. 80% of the audience all went in at the doors.
3. 90% of the 80% all wanted t shirts! I have never seen a merch stand so hectic for a gig like that. So a lot of people gave up and had to enter the venue for somewhere to go. Like I said there needed another 30 mins between the doors and support. Usually it would be fine but PJ fans are merch fiends! Nature of the beast that has been created with this band. Nothing wrong with it but it just creates this problem.
3. It was raining so a lot of people went in early. There is a small pub near the venue but usually people would stand outside there for a drink.
It is a shame but as a support act you're gonna have bad gigs like that where people don't care. Anyone remember Paddy Casey from Dublin 2006? Could have been a lot worse Glen
Just to be clear re Glen's set - it wasn't the people coming in or at the bar which were the problem. There is always background noise at any venue where there is a bar inside near the stage - that noise would have been water off a duck's back to Glen as he's played in hundreds of venues like it.
The problem that I saw was the people who were already in at their seats for Glen's set. I was in the 4th row and there were people all around me having really loud conversations and playing with/talking on their phones. I saw one guy in the front row directly in front of Glen do this - very uncool.
If you aren't interested in the opening act, then that's cool - everyone doesn't have to love Glen or be interested - but if you are in the venue then please respect the artist and the people who are there to see them.
The people who were there missed out on the full effect of Glen and that's a shame - I am hoping that the London audiences will be more respectful.
Otherwise the show was great - Ed changed the setlist up from a normal solo show to deal with a rowdy Mancunian crowd and it worked really well. I am happy for the jammers there who had their first Eddie solo experience as everyone I've heard from had a great time.
I absolutely loved the show never expected I will hear Picture in a frame live!!! And you can only imagine my face when I picked the tickets and saw that I'll be sitting in third row!!!!! It's true that some people were annoying with all those shouting but still a great show for me
Just sad I didn't know that Glen will start so early and missed first two songs, which was almost half of the show :(
Chorzów 2007 - Berlin 2009 - Berlin 2010 - Gdynia 2010 - Berlin 2012 - Berlin 2012 - Stockholm 2012 - EV Manchester 2012 - Milan 2014 - Trieste 2014 - Vienna 2014 - Berlin 2014 - Gdynia 2014 - Rio 2018 - Sao Paulo 2018
It was a stunning, electrifying gig - so amazing. It was intimate and fun and Eddie was in such great voice, I loved every single second. Thanks so much Ten Club for wonderful tickets, sixth row from the front at the side and couldn't believe that we had 5 empty seats right in front of us which gave an amazing view of the stage.
I've seen PJ three times, but never with my husband, who has never really got into them the same way I have, but he said he would come to see Eddie with me, and I can honestly say I think I've finally converted him! We had such a great night, what a crowd, that really made it. I know people were shouting but I'm from Edinburgh so quite used to that really (!) I think it's just people getting over exuberant and excited, it wasn't that bad, and I suppose the energy that was causing some people to shout was the same energy that got everyone on their feet and singing along which was brilliant. The phones and cameras were definitely irritating, particularly at the end during Hard Sun when they were blocking my view. Odd that people were going against what was obviously Eddie's wishes though... where's the romance in recording something on a digital device, just watch with your eyes and be 'there'. I don't understand it personally, but I suppose it's just the times we live in now - people don't feel they've experienced something unless they've recorded it and posted it in some way.
I personally didn't take my phone out once to take a photo, just because I was so in the moment and didn't want to be viewing it through a screen even for a second. I'd love to see some good photos or videos though, because Eddie's set was so lovely to look at. The most annoying thing about the phones was the digital shutter sounds when Eddie and Glen were at the front of the stage unmiked, but it still didn't take away from the overall experience.
I thought the encores were fantastic, the energy in the room went through the roof, and HOW GOOD was Falling Slowly!? I've never heard it before, but something about the two singing together and Eddie's voice in particular, and I dunno, it just got me. Then hearing Crazy Mary which I must have listened to a million times as a teenager, I loved it so much - to hear it live for the first time was something very special. And Untitled, that song means so much to me. And the singalong during Elderly Woman... and Hard Sun... and Off he Goes... and ARC - that was my husband's favourite. Anyway, I could just go through listing the whole setlist as my favourite moment I suppose, so I won't! I just hope Eddie comes back really soon, because I can't wait to see him play again. Maybe to Edinburgh Mr Vedder? Just a suggestion... ahem.
Oh, and I was one of the people who decided it would be a good idea to stand in the freezing driving rain for 2 hours to see if Ed would come out after the gig. Never done that before and never really thought I would, but it was such a great gig I just got this feeling that I wanted to say thanks and to shake the man's hand for essentially soundtracking my adult life! Made my poor husband stand for so long, with him trying to break it to me gently that Eddie was definitely no longer in the building ("look, they are obviously clearing out his dressing room - if that is his chair, where is he sitting?' - haha!), but the longer I waited the more I thought - if I go NOW, I bet he'll come out 5 minutes later. Left at 1.30 before pneumonia set in - I now understand that we left merely 10 minutes before the production manager came out with guitar picks foe everyone. Poo. Nevermind, maybe next time.
All who have still to see him - you will LOVE IT. So jealous.
Was amazed how good our seats were, row G which was the 5th row back.
Just an amazing show, loved it all! Didn't bother with the merchandise stall - too much of a nightmare and never have the spare cash. We got in in time to see Glen Hansard which I'm so pleased about - not really familiar with him, but as someone who hasn't really listened to him before - he did an amazing set under difficult circumstances. He did say early on that he was only doing five songs, I'm sure he dedicated them all to, was it 'Laura', the girl who went and sat on the stage. Closing the bar would have been a good idea, and yes, the chatting was as annoying as hell - but as I said before he did an amazing job!
I was quite surprised that during the break there was an usherette selling ice cream. It was such a novelty I went and bought two (one for me and one for hubby). We weren't drinking but a shandy and an ice cream were quite a treat.
When Eddie came on I was beside myself. The set was fantastic! Highlights for me ..... difficult to say, loved it all. I liked that Eddie had little chats and said about told little tales. He didn't seem to say much to the crowd at Manchester 1 (which was the only PJ show we saw) so it was lovely to hear him talk. The thing with Ogden (soory if that's spelt wrong) was so nice, I was really pleased for him. The shouting from the audience was a little annoying, but he's a seasoned performer so I'm sure it's no big deal for him. What did annoy me was the two lads that were behind me who kept chatting through the whole thing, one of them even shouting into their phone 'can you hear it' repeatedly. I kept giving them hard stares, but it made no difference. mind you I got told off too, I do like to have a seat at a show, but I also like to stand up and have a jiggle. I got up during one song, then again during another and I got a tap on the back the second time I did it. Apologies to the man behind me.
When Arc finished (which was wonderful), hubby was convinced the show was finished so insisted we rushed outside to see Eddie leave, so off we trundled. Only to reach the stage door, which was thankfully open to hear RITFW. There were about 6 or 7 people there and it was quite fun chatting. Two blokes there hadn't been to the show, they couldn't get tickets, they'd been to see Morrisey, but thought they'd pop to the O2 on their way home to see if they could see Ed. Anyhoo as soon has the show had finished Eddie flew out the door and into the waiting car. He looked hot and bothered and mildy surprised there was anyone there. I suddenly felt a bit silly and thought this probably isn't appropriate behaviour for a 45 year old. Still it was nice chatting and even the security guys were in good humour.
Was disappointed we didn't make it to the pre-party (which may have been a good thing considering how pissed I got at the last one) but overall the night was a resounding success! Saw too fantastic musicians play, met briefly with other people we'd met before which was great.
maybe it's worse with the contrast from very respectful and attentive dutch fans, but the crowd noise was really annoying. everyone was yapping on and on during glen's set, it's fine if you're finding your way in but do it quietly and respect him and the people who came to see him play. the yelling while eddie played was also quite unnerving, especially finishing his stories for him and that constant song requesting...maybe that's why he seemed last chatty than at amsterdam. also, if you need to move out every 3 songs to get drinks, a pub might be a more appropriate outlet for you than a (supposedly) quiet, intimate show.
enough with the negativity now. the set was great, and the crowd was quite energetic. by now I know the moment to leave my seat, so I could get up to the front again for the final songs glad I could take my friend to see this with me, and that we got to see sometimes played.
What a special night!!! The whole set was great, but Sleepless Nights - I've never witnessed anything as powerful at ANY gig I've ever been to - just a ukulele & two voices, no mics/PA! Total silence where I was, I'm getting emotional now just writing/thinking about it!!
As for Glen, I was looking forward to see him, and he didn't disappoint. All the negativity is a culmination of many factors -
- The doors opened at 7, he went on at 7:30 - we joined the queue outside at 7:05, and didn't get to our seats until 7:20 - that's before drinks/merch!!
- The bar is in the auditorium
- His mates were probably the loudest!!
- He was the SUPPORT act, doubt many people payed £50 to see just him
- The bar & merch stand were so packed that there was no room to just hang outside the auditorium
Anyway, feel priveleged to have witnessed an Ed solo show - hope I get to see another!!
I saw one guy in the front row directly in front of Glen do this - very uncool.
Then tell them to be quiet ! By saying nothing we're as good as endorsing behaviour we don't like because we're not objecting to it. As long as no one objects, people will carry on behaving as they are because no-one has taught them that what they're doing isn't cool.
Don't suffer in silence - tell them, ask them, to STFU.

I have to agree I think there were some total assholes in the audience last night! There were definitely people talking during Glen that I'm pretty sure he could have pointed out as they were so close to him. There were also assholes sitting near us that decided to talk during quieter Eddie songs! Unreal!
That said it was without a doubt one of the best gigs I have ever been to and I've been to a lot
I cant believe I got to roar along to Elderly Woman......I just loved it!
In terms of the merch stand - It was dangerous, theres no two ways about it, it was a total crush, I have been having heart problems recently and at one stage I actually thought I might pass out or have a heart attack - no joke, but at that stage there was no turning back, I had to go with the crowd. I was a bit wrecked for the first 20 mins of Eddie after it til my heart calmed down :( I thought it was weird as crushing is such a no go at Pearl Jam gigs and Eddie is so against it! It was totally rediculous. for starters there was another stand upstairs selling stuff but no one was announcing this, it didnt have the full range but I'm pretty sure people were also queuing for the stuff they were selling.
Anyway, we all survived, it was best gig EVER, and I also got a t-shirt and some stuff for other ten members that needed it in the US so overall happy days
It is a shame but as a support act you're gonna have bad gigs like that where people don't care. Anyone remember Paddy Casey from Dublin 2006? Could have been a lot worse Glen
Oh god yeah. To be fair it was one of the worst chosen opening acts ever!
I am surrpised Glen didnt convince Ed to do a Dublin show.

The guy was four rows in front of me and me attempting to discipline him for his poor behaviour would have been even more disruptive. Had he been closer I'd have undertaken some 'gig policeman' work but really people are adults and shouldn't have to be told how to behave.
Absolutely stunning gig, was so thrilled to be there.
I hate to laden the discussion though re. this gig with references to Glens set and the problems with crowd noise, but just to add my 2 cents Firstly, my mate and I flew over from Ireland for the gig, so were really, really looking forward to Glen Hansard (we were obviously there for Eddie, but Glen was a serious bonus), having seen him and The Frames headline quite a number of gigs and festivals back home. Playing support to Eddie Vedder is a sweet gig, but playing at 7:30pm on a Saturday night isn't the best slot in the world. Glen did refer to the fact that he appreciated people coming in to see him "so early".
Like a lot of people on this forum, I've been at many gigs on various nights of the week and have often heard bands refer to the fact that Sat night, for obvious reasons, people have had a few more drinks on board than most other nights of the week. That's fair enough, but will obviously lead to a more boisterous crowd. So I think it was just a bit unfortunate that he had to play so early on the night in question. It was a shame though that his set was so short and compromised. Glens a really amazing performer and was thrilled Eddie brought him out for a few songs during his set.
As for Mr. Vedder - where to start? The gig was that good, I honestly couldn't do it justice by trying to describe it here. We were front row in the Circle. Amazing seats, until I saw the folks in the stalls below us getting up close with Eddie at the end of the gig - you lucky b******s! I did feel sorry for the people behind us though, as 2 absolute knobs were in the seats beside us and were out to the bar every couple of songs, so were up and down a lot. Christ, use your head and bring back enough drink to keep you going!!! They arrived late and left before 2nd encore - how/why do these people go to these gigs? If they had Tenclub tickets like ours were, the Tenclub gene-pool may be in decline. Still though, neither they or anyone else could have taken the smile off my face on Sat night. Like the vast majority of people at the gig, I was having an absolute BLAST!!!!!!!!!
A long shot, but anyone know of plans for official bootlegs of the solo tour?

Only donwer was the tiny merchandise stall.. which made me miss Glen :(
How I wish for you today
Anyhow, despite these little annoyances, it was the most fantastic night. We laughed, cried, sang and danced and just like at PJ Manchester 2 last month, we got soaked. Eddie seems to bring the rain with him when he visits! I could have happily stayed in that theatre, in that moment, forever :-D
I wish I was going to the London gigs, but so happy I got to see last night's show and will be buzzing for ages now. For those that are going and haven't seen Eddie live before, be ready for a powerful, emotional rollercoaster ride. For those that have, you know what I'm talking about!
...that's when I left the queue... when I heard Glen come on. Had barely moved in the time I'd been standing there waiting like a lemon, so just thought, screw it... would prefer to listen to the music.

in amsterdam the carre was open from 5 to pick up tickets and there were folk at the merch stand so me and my boyfriend bought stuff there and then, which was great cuz it meant we had plenty of time to take it back to our hotel (which was great cuz it meant there would be no risk of vinyl breaking or posters getting crushed
forget which song it was but the balcony was bumping up and down at one point
thanks eddie. please come back soon
the merch fiasco (which i knew would happen knowing the venue and how much we like our posters/shirts etc)
very cool for ed to invite ognen to the stage

Long live The Glened!!!
Just sad I didn't know that Glen will start so early and missed first two songs, which was almost half of the show :(
I've seen PJ three times, but never with my husband, who has never really got into them the same way I have, but he said he would come to see Eddie with me, and I can honestly say I think I've finally converted him!
So jealous.
The crowd was electric, Elderly woman, Porch, Arc and Hard Sun were favourites but Lukin stole the show for me such a great song.
Now trying to get tickets for the two london gigs

Saw too fantastic musicians play, met briefly with other people we'd met before which was great.
enough with the negativity now. the set was great, and the crowd was quite energetic. by now I know the moment to leave my seat, so I could get up to the front again for the final songs

I hate to laden the discussion though re. this gig with references to Glens set and the problems with crowd noise, but just to add my 2 cents
But but but... you are Superman.. it's an easy job for you to adress to drunken lads with no painlevel left
At Amsterdam the first night people were shushing the talkers down.. worked well.
So tonight at London if you are annoyed just.. SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS them...
You could have been sitting bestide me
But only if they're smaller and weaker than you...
Slim to no chance I'd say.
