On the post game show on the radio last night, they mentioned the Cubs are off to their 3rd best start after 31 games in the last 20 seasons. Only eclipsed by 2016 and 2001. Pretty awesome considering they were 2-7 after the first 3 series. They're also an MLB best 18-6 after a 1-6 start.
They are on fire as of late. Baez, Contrares and Heyward are all VERY impressive thus far.
What to do with Addison when they bring him back....
I hope they don't, honestly. They will, unfortunately, and I think it might disrupt the chemistry they have going for them right now. Descalso & Bote are doing just fine at 2nd base and providing offensively. And Bote is a fan favorite. I think he's gonna be met with some fan criticism (rightfully so) when he gets called. Especially if he doesn't produce (currently batting .250 in Triple-A, but looks to have regained some power). I guess Zagunis gets sent down when he gets the call, depending on the health of the active roster.
Think the rivalry could be really good this year once we both get settled in.
Indeed... and honestly if it comes down between Cardinals and Brewers for a playoff spot, I'll root for the Cards. That's how much I loathe the Brewers. And that dates back way longer than just last year. Can we trade them to the AL for like, the Twins or something?
I’ve always defended Strop as he has been our best reliever over the past 5 seasons. But he sucks so far this season. It’s time to sign a real god damn closer and let him be the setup guy.
That is why Baez will never be a fucking MVP. Mother fucker swings at every fucking shit god damn pitch that - if it were Rizzo in the box instead - it would be 3 feet behind him. Want to get Baez out, never throw anything remotely close to the strike zone. Also fuck that umpire on that first called strike to Contreras. Garbage ass game in all aspects. Okay, so everyone who reads this has no doubt, by now, heard about the fan that was banned for his hand gesture. Now, I guess it's hard to say because I'm a white male but there is no doubt in my mind that he was playing the "circle game". I've played it. Coworkers (of all races) at every job I've worked have done it. Softball teammates and competitors. Maybe part of my anger comes from knowing that I could have received the same lifetime ban/lost my job/been labeled for life as a racist for the same thing...the most harmless thing. Today, yes, it is certainly much more widely known issue and I know not to do it. But a week ago, I would think a VERY small percentage of people would have known it was officially a racist symbol.
I guess it just blew my mind that the Cubs would give a guy a lifetime ban for it on the same day they let Addison Russell back to the team after his 40 game domestic violence suspension.
Anyhow...fast forward to the first pitch in the bottom of the 1st of today's game. J-Hey hits one off the wall and gets a triple. Here he is sliding into 3rd.....a week or so after Russell is forgiven for his domestic violence and Theo and Co. lifetime ban a guy for his "disgusting and egregious" behavior of making an "okay" sign in what was clearly, in my mind, a game.
