I love how the men of those times wrote. They invested precision into their words, because the ideas behind and tied into them were so precious.

Language - the appreciation and preservation of it - is a bit of a tender spot with me. I respect it; the words, the grammar, the spelling...the care put into making sure they resonate.

None of this 2 and U and 4 shit.

It not only irritates me but makes me sad to see how language has been and continues to be massacred, and for what purpose?

    Convenience? Ignorance?

    Laziness.

I agree with you, but for better or for worse, everything evolves, even language.

True, but the language side (not to mention other aspects) strikes me as de-evolution...dumbing down.

I would tend to agree with that, but for discussion's sake, some could argue it's actually more efficient. I mean, you can now say with 5 letters and a smiley in 3 seconds what used to take a parchment and a bucket of feathers that would be written in 3 days.

every generation has its "this is getting lost by the current generation-they have no respect!". we speak/write differently than our previous generation too.

If I can't believe in the Constitution, then what can I believe in?

I think the constitution is better than nothing is protecting our rights, but it could be better(which is true about almost everything.)

When you ask, "Do you believe in the Constitution?". What, specifically are you asking?
Because, the Constitution establishes our Federal Government... the 3 branches of Government and their duties (including the collection of Taxes).
The amendments (Bill Of Rights) outlines the supreme law of the land and basically restricts what Congress cannot do to us (such as establishing Christianity and the Official National Religion of the United States of America, for example).
Are you asking us if we believe in our form of government and/or the laws of our nation?

Here is what I DON'T believe in... our nation, of the rich people, by the rich people, for the rich people.
But, this is what our country has become. Influenced by money and power... not of the working class... and definately, not FOR the working class. It is run by the rich, for the rich. If you think they give a fuck about you, you are wrong. You are just one of the little, grey people that live off of the crumbs that they allow to trickle down to you.
Sorry... it wasn't supposed to turn out this way... but, it did.

    Careful there, Cosmo.

I think that the people at the VERY top probably do care a great deal.
To become rich you must learn to compete well.
But to become extremely successful and influential you must learn how to COOPERATE.

I've studied enough of the esoteric traditions now to understand that the philosophical schools for the elite (ie. Masonry, Rosicrucianism, Templarism etc.) -- the very schools that claim lineage back to the great philosopher kings of Egypt and beyond (ie. Atlantis, har har) -- have their roots NOT in deception\contempt\and condescension ... but in LOVE \ UNITY \ and ORDER.
Sometimes tough choices are made in the defense of Love, Unity, and Order,
but the inability of a common man to understand these choices doesn't make them "wrong".

    I take your point,
and there is a LARGE STRATA OF IGNORANT, SELF SERVING RICH in the world (not just in the USA) ... but there is a somewhat smaller strata of EXTREMELY rich people in this world who DO WORK FOR GOOD.

    Remember The Good Club ?
I know it got spun some sort of deviant elitist population reduction plan, but these people are not Demonic Assholes. I mean honestly, have you ever listened to Warren Buffet speak? He is geniune, humble, and comes off as nothing but kind. I'm sure he is a shrewd business man, but he's not out to fuck you over to stay rich. He has EARNED a place in the elite by his MERIT, and he is working functionally towards a greater good for the greater number.

Hell most of the top level elite have their own mega-charities named after them. Rockefeller Foundation. Ford Foundation. EVEN WAL-MART etc etc etc.
    :D

Is there a large divide between rich and poor?
    Sure.

Is it fair to blame the rich for all the woes of the poor.
    ???

    For Drifting:
No. I do not blame the rich people for being rich.
My point is that this nation is NOT 'Of the People'... it is governed by the wealthy, with the wealthy's best interests in mind.
I don't deny the charity of the wealthy... but, what happens to those charities if they are no longer a tax write-off? Do they continue to exist... or become extinct?
There are far more benefits to being rich... one of them is influencing government to do what is best for you... not your nation.

A little diversion as this is not about the Constitution but in response to the above point. In the UK, with this last budget, a cap on tax relief for larger charitable donations has been passed. Whilst large, lump sum donations (by the wealthy, of course) are more than welcome, they are more often than not made in a selfish way. Yes, they 'lose' money by donating but do so to their 'overall' financial advantage. Charities here are very, very concerned that this policy will have a serious impact on their large scale donations.

    Back to the constitution.....

Does it really matter if someone who is making a lump sum donation also realizes a personal benefit for making that donation?

Yeah, i'm 100% confused by this.
How does GIVING AWAY MONEY TO CHARITY = PERSONAL BENEFIT?

This is the most absurd leap of logic I can think of.

If i earn $200,000 dollars and give $100,000 to charity.
I SHOULD be taxed on $100,000.
Why should i be taxed on $200,000?
    I don't have $200,000.
I gave $100,000 TO CHARITY, FOR FUCKS SAKE???
It is THE SAME AS HAVING EARNED ONLY $100,000 is it not?

Or is it important to DISCOURAGE charity for the sake of tax revenue?

    ????
    stupid is as government does.
    :(

WHAT "benefit" is received other than NOT being taxed on money that was GIVEN AWAY ???
If someone has a problem with the SPECIFIC charity that a contribution was made to, maybe they should take it up with the very same government that prescribed to that charity Tax Exempt status in the first place. ???
