Update: Less than a year after releasing the Carpenter, the Avett Brothers announced another new record, Magpie & the Dandelion, due out Oct. 15 - same day as Lightning Bolt!

New song "Another Is Waiting" is streaming for free now on NPR:

Live & Die, the first single from their new record officially releases on Tuesday July 3.

The new album is called 'The Carpenter' and releases on September 11.

I absolutely love this band. Seen them 3 times in the last year and have tickets to another show in New Braunfels, TX next month. I'm digging the new song after a couple of listens and can't wait for this new record. The Once & Future Carpenter, another new song that has been played live over the past year or so, is also confirmed to be on the new album -http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQ-PguGIoWA

Yeah, I listened to this yesterday. Good tune. I am hoping the album is really upbeat this time around. I and Love and You is great, but pretty mellow. Excited no matter what though.

Picked up tickets to their Boston show in September through their pre-sale and scored 2nd row center! Will be the second time I have seen them. Can't wait!

They played Live & Die last night in Vancouver. Hoping to hear it in New Braunfels next month. I'm really looking forward to this new record. It's been 3 years since I & Love & You.

Just listened for the first time. At first blush......Overall, it's unexpectedly good. Not that I didn't expect it to be good, it's the Avett's....of course it good, but it's more subdued than other records and when they do rock out they rock out in unexpected ways. You can sense thru this record their maturation as both musicians and people. One of the gripes for I&L&Y was how polished it was compared to earlier records. The Carpenter again has a produced feel to it but it feels good...it's tight but still maintains the evocative side to the tracks that's vintage Avett. It's their biggest record to date as far as the richness of the sound goes. It's got depths and makes me want to return to it for more listens. Time to start delving. "If you have love in your heart let it show while you can."

  • This is the best band making music right now.

Streamed the album yesterday on NPR and loved it. Saw them twice more this summer and can't wait for them to come my way again - which they often do.

The Once & Future Carpenter might be the best song they've ever written, and I love their entire catalog.

If you're a fan and want to see some really cool behind the scenes videos of these guys, check out Crackerfarm on YouTube. He has tons of great vids of them. This is one of my favorites - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fATWXo4z4sU

This is quickly becoming one of my favorite Avett songs, period. Incredible way to start off the album!

Yeah, it's a rip from the stream. I'm not gonna complain though since I have it on my iPod now and can listen to it while I'm at work and stuff like that. Plus my internet isn't that great so the stream would cut out from time to time as well.

I must say that I am really disappointed in the new album. Had high hopes that it would be more reminiscent of their older albums, but its the exact opposite. Personally, I think its the worst of all their releases. Rick Rubin just doesn't work for me when it comes to producing their stuff. I and Love and You was pretty good, but more piano driven, and The Carpenter is more down that road as well. I just really miss the banjo in their songs. Don't get me wrong there are some solid tunes on the new album, but as a whole I think its sub par.
