Ok, thanks for the crowd picture, krobbinz!!

share and hsewif, I pointed out where I think Bobby was - he wore pink t-shirt and I don't think I can see myself.

But we were inside the barrier.

  • Incredible show... my first time seeing PJ from the first row and it was well worth the 11 hrs of heat, hunger, and dehydration

And kudos to all the PJ fans in the first few rows... probably the most passionate crowd I've ever been in, and as instense as everybody was, there was no big surge at the start of the show and I didn't feel people pushing me from behind all show either.

I don't think it's even really hit me that I was right up front at such a historic show, with 150,000 people behind me... A night I'll never forget for sure!

Yep, Armstrong was there. I didn't notice him but my friend said it was him. Chris Chelios and Jeremy Roenick were also right in front of the rail as well.
I dunno who Jeremy is but that Chris dude was right in front of me at the rail for a long time (I was 2nd row behind a few guys - one shook his hand... and another guy kept shouting at him)

Where were you in relation to this pic? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v17/merich/Pearl%20Jam/lollacrowd2.jpg

We were the three guys in the front with the towels on the rail. I was in the white and my brother and his friends had the blue shirts on. I shook Chelios's hand and my brother and his friend got a picture of Chelios. He got infront of us and was trying to get a tambourine.

Left Cincinnati at 9:00, parked in garage at Michingan Ave. around 2:00, got to AT&T stage , posted up about 30 rows back for the fist act (no clue who they were, Rappers), moved up between sets, slowly and respectfully while people were filing out, KOL set was about 20 back, about 15 back or MMJ, that was about as far as we got, on stones side, it could ahve been 10, either way it was a great view, the crowd surfers got on most peoples nerves, it was hot and sweaty, ran out of water around the middle of MMJ set, dying of thirst and heat........It rocked, wouldn't change anything......the opener set the stage.......got back to garage about 11:30 (chi-town time) got to Cincy around 6:00 am (cincy time), left for work at 7:00 set out on a job site in 95 degree weather til 5:00 pm.....still worth every second......

Has anyone seen a formal estimate of the crowd for PJ's Lolla appearance?
  • Sunday August 5, 2007
Oh what a lovely day! It was now time for day 3 of living the Lolla! I was one of the long haulers waiting since 11am when gates opened. I was also one of the people who ran the entire way to the stage, crew and kids around me where making fun of all the kids running to the Pearl jam stage I got up to the front, about 10 rows back. Sat down my plastic table cloth and prepared for the long wait. Lots of people where already there, so I didn’t get as close as I wanted, but I knew it was going to be hard to get a good spot as it is, cause it was such a huge festival. I say the first hour and a half was the most horrible. The sweat on my face would not stop dripping. And I was alone. I almost reconsidered. I kept thinking how the hell am I gonna get thru this? I told myself I didn't need to pee, and held it for 10 hours!! I think the heat helped that too. I felt good though, and watched all the opening bands and experienced my first rap concert. Which I never relized I had not gone to one until the guy in front of me told me this was his first rap concert. I was like, yeah, me too!. Someone had a wipe off board and kept the time like “6 hours 40 minutes” of exactly how long til PJ came out. But as the hours went on, I got to know my neighbors all very well. I met the 4 people from Toronto, Canada who had their blanket out too, and we talked alot to them. Then Bridget and Mary from Iowa who where so nice and brought me an ice tea, even thou I didn't even need it! Then met two dudes from Nebraska who I didn’t catch their names but chatted for hours, and allowed them on my lonely blanket. Then the local girl with the lime green spray bottle, I welcomed her too. I eventually had 6 other people on my blanket. Everyone was so good to everyone, even during the show we had a very safe spot. Only 2 crowd surfers went over me, and left my blanket out the entire show and had my bag sitting on the ground and we all just huddle our stuff together to keep it safe. We were about 10 rows back on Mike's stage. Everyone took care of one another, I had no pushers, and had plenty of room to dance. It was all and all a good show, I noticed the guitar problems, and Ed almost didnt have a mic sound on “Elderly Women behind the counter in a small town“......and had to start it over. I wasn’t impressed that they choose to play “Crazy Mary” which to me is the worse B-Side. I do not like it one bit. So I think that was suppose to be our treasure song, but wasn’t for me. Then when “Given to Fly” came on, I sang up to the sky to Pennie who was my poodle that passed away in febuary, which is the song I kind of dedicated to her. I would of thought they would have played secret favorites like “Immortality” or, “ Brain of J” , I knew I wasn’t going to get my favorite like “In My Tree” or “No Way” which are my favorites, but would like anything off No Code album cause that’s my favorite and excites me! I did get “Lukin”.

But was pleased with the energy of the show from the band and the crowd. My new friends and I , we all walked to the train together and said our goodbyes to them and the city. I got some of their contact information so it will be nice to keep in touch with fans just like me. But I still would like to try to find the kid I talked to on Friday who I called him "baby Eddie vedder" and took a photo with?

Why Go was so awesome to open with! I love it! It pumped up the crowd so much. I was so excited to be with so many PJ fans!

The night ended with me singing PJ songs (in an Eddie Vedder voice) on the el while Jenny took video with her camera.

  • I was so psyched to see the show and then so disappointed at all the complete jerks that were near me in the crowd...

I wasn't there soon enough to stake out a REALLY good spot like most of you... (although on second thought maybe I should have... although I would have missed Iggy whom my hubby really wanted to see and was also a GREAT show), but I certainly didn't elbow or push my way to the front.

Once settled in my spot (on the far right side) and during the MMJ show, these jerks cut in between me and my hubby and wouldn't let him up to where I was. Determined not to get angry about it, we just stayed where we were, talked back & forth through the jerks, and waited for the show to start.

As soon as it started there was a huge surge and people pushing from everywhere. To boot, a crowd surfer passed overhead and I was pushed even further away. Since I was pushed CLOSER to the front, I thought...gee whiz, maybe it's karma... I guess I'll stay here - but then these people started shoving me when they saw I was alone and in a different spot. When I wouldn't move, they tried to call security over, saying I was drunk (which I was not... well tipsy maybe, but certainly not drunk) and pushed me to the front. Just as the guard was about to lift me over the gate and kick me out, I said, hey wait a minute - I'm not drunk, these people are just a@@holes! He could clearly see that I was NOT drunk and then let me stay. This only infuriated the jerks more when THEY had pushed me forward even further.

Needless, to say, I stayed there, and tried to enjoy the show, but I had to have my guard up the whole time which was very distracting.

Really disappointed. Wish I could have been closer to some REAL fans.

Don't think I'll be going to a festival to see PJ again and I was also frustrated that I found out about the Vic too late.

I have now seen PJ 4 times, and even though I was closest to the stage for this one, it was certainly a real let down.

Sorry to vent, but it needed to come out.

Awww... I was saying afterwards that I think this may be my favourite live song. It's the one where I put my hands up towards the sky, close my eyes and sing as loud as I possibly can... ok well I do this for all of them but this one is just the best for that.

  • Since everyone pretty much described the Lolla experience already, I'll just share my "I met Stone" story.

I had been at Grant Park all morning and afternoon, so I decided to return to my hotel and shower up (again) for the evening. At about 4:30, my friends and I left our hotel room (Hilton Suites) and hopped in a taxi to head back to the park. At the end of our block, we had to stop for a red light. One of my friends says, "Hey -- that dude looks like Stone." I'm like ... yeah. She says, "No -- really. That dude REALLY looks like Stone." So I say, "Let me check this" and stick my head out the door. It was Stone. Long story short, I got him to sign one of the surfboard shirts and take a picture. I felt like a dick ... but he was extremely cool. At one point, after I mentioned that I've been a fan since the band started, he said, "Well, you look healthy and happy. Is everything good?" Like I said, just a great guy. And he made me feel like it was no big deal to interrupt his privacy. I sort of hate that I did it ... but I'm also thankful that I actually got to talk with him and let him know how much his music means to me.

Oh ... Stone was wearing exactly the same clothes at the show as he was when I met him! Like playing Lollapalooza was just another part of his day -- hang with a friend, grab a bite to eat, play Lolla, have some dinner, etc. Too cool.
    Give way to nature ...
