I don't know man, is it right to call Americans (the country you preside in) stupid and typical meatheads beacuse you disagree with them? Anyway, this is why I don't like politics.
Yea, I was there.....sucked people booed. I am from Long island and It was great traveling only a few minutes, but the place is a dump. A good highlite did come out of all that.....no not the sun burn I suffered wating on line. But one of the most under appreciated posters ever.
I love that poster.....seems no one else does
I said that the people booing and chanting "U-S-A" were meatheads. What would you call them? They're certainly not smart.
I wouldn't call them stupid for being pissed off that they knew people that died in 9/11 and were happy to see the US retaliate, however wrong that was. People were blinded by patriotism, I was only 17 at the time, knew 5 people that died it WTC and was pretty happy when we took a strong course of action. Was I wrong? Yes. Does that make me stupid? You'll probably say yes, I'd say misinformed but whatever, were arguing over a choice of words. This is why I became a construction worker, I only have to make political decisions every four years when I vote .

The song is about Bush and what an idiot he is. It has nothing to do with 9/11.
I was there and if you listen to the boot you actually hear Ed acknowledge to the crowd that he's okay with them disagreeing with him... he says something like that its good to have a dialogue going back and forth.
But he should have left it at that and finished the concert without the petulant attitude.
I wasn't there but saw a clip on YT and agree about Ed acknowledging the crowd and saying their reaction was okay. He even said something to the effect of loving his country during the "USA" chant.
As for the rest of it, Ed is a showman. He may let us know his views and many of us may even identify with him, but some of us forget he is also an entertainer. It seems to me when Ed combines his personal and professional selves, the results can be very dramatic.
I hope that doesn't sound like I'm saying he is a phony and it's an act because I am not at all. Just to clarify: Ed is outspoken...he has an open forum...he can leave quite an impression. I think he's smart, not childish.
Lastly, he didn't boo the crowd - he encouraged them to think for themselves. Big difference.
I was at the show with best buddie and we looked at each other like "what are the chanting" no way did I ever think that EV and Pearl Jam would get booed....we still talk about that show...what pisses me off is that he never finished the song.
Although he did rip through Know your rights as a little FU back to the crowd.....
Awesome Even Flow with Ed Bouncing all over the stage.....and he did dial up a nice I am A Patriot.
Too many young males beleive that manhood is defined by the ability to injure a man, rather than helping one.
There are two kinds of women in this world....one that will give you strength....the other will take it away.....
The best part is the slight Black Sabbath tease in Porch. At least I think it was in Porch I havent listened to it in a while...one of the best PJ shows Ive seen!

that show was intense and epic from the first chord of long road. im more pissed about the songs skipped on the set due to the booing, but whatevs, the boys recovered
it really was a great show, and if we didn't fuck it up it could of been the best show of the 03 tour. this was the first ever pearl jam show i went to and it really was a bizarre experience. i couldn't get over what was happening, at least the boys took it in stride and recovered, even if we did miss out on songs.
"Change don't come at once, it's a wave, building before it breaks"
Ed's a Rangers fan now...He and the boys will not be playing "The Mausoleum", resting place of the Islanders. MSG and E. Rutherford from now on only baby!
"I'm just feeling so tough with my ukelele...my badass mother f'in ukelele" EV 8/7/08 Newark, NJ
this was my favorite show on the 03 tour )of course I missed holmdel which might give it a run for the money
the whole bushleaguer thing just made it that much more interesting
The song is controversial and political. It took balls to play it in NY so close to 9/11 when bush's approval ratings were pretty high. I mean, you probably had at least a few people in that crowd that lost loved ones. At the end of the day, I think people just wanted to vent and take issue with Ed for writing a political song that critizes the gov, thereby labeling him as unamerican.
I never realized that this had happend. I know the Denver show caused some controversy but wasn't aware that this had went down in NJ as well.
I must say that this thread definately peaked my interest and I checked out the show.
"Know Your Rights" is just perfect...I absolutley loved it. "Eddie vs. NJ" very interesting indeed.
Eddie seemed to thrive off the tension whether it was good or bad...I think he delivered one of the most intense performances of the Riot Act era.
I've always felt Eddie lacked intensity during this perriod and it used to really irritate me as some of the performances were a little lackluster because of Eddies lack of conviction...but this show is fucking intense...
