Heard Demon's' on the radio yesterday and today, first listen I was a bit...meh, second listen, yes this could be really good. A grower I'm thinking...
Ive always thought their music is a grower. Only a few of their tunes are pretty immediate. Usually the rockers. Demons is one of those growers. That last verse starting with the Sun coming up in New York is just phenomenal.

I just discovered this band recently thanks to their mention on these boards, and I am really loving them! Thanks 10C members with your good taste in music.
(they are no as good as PJ (or several other bands) though, IMO. But they are awesome ).

Can't wait for Trouble Will Find Me. Love everything that I've heard so far, but my favorites so far have been Graceless and I Need My Girl. If this album lives up to expectations, it will easily be album of the year, at least in my mind.
Just in case anyone is interested the national have just announced they are releasing the full 6 hour performance of sorrow at moma in 2013 as a ltd 9 lp box set. Details can be found on their twitter feed Or alotofsorrow.com. only 1500 copies apparently.

I completely agree. I just figured that many of us here are vinyl junkies and some people might be upset if they missed it. £120 is way too rich for me.
Cool concept and intriguing to have it offered on vinyl....but I dunno, that's a long time to listen to the same song repeatedly. Would def be an interesting meditative experience.

Ha. Will be interesting to hear if they changed subtle inflections and instrumentations from song to song based on that particular moment during the performance. Say one version may be colored melancholy (aren't most of their songs??...ha) while three versions of it later may contain more of an energetic burst.
Has anyone seen the documentary Mistaken For Strangers yet? About the lead singer and his brother's relationship. Just saw it pop up available on demand on cable and wondering if it's worth a watch from someone who's seen it.
No time to be void or save up on life, you gotta spend it all.
I don't think it's the same song on a loop over six hours is it, I assumed it was like a six hour jam session to the tune of Sorrow...?
I have to admit, I'm intrigued by the concept, but I won't be spending that kind of coin on it.
they played the song over and over again, apparently 108 times, and i remember reading there was one version with no drums as the drummer went to the bathroom or something.

It's definitely worth a watch. I really enjoyed it. Definitely more about the relationship between them than the music.

Thanks, as much as I can appreciate the art of it and the discipline, the jam session I could get behind, not the same song on repeat.

Like it - too much touring has made him crazy and that's a good thing.
Like what I've heard of EL VY so far. Had tickets to see them at the Troubadour coming up in a week and a half but gave them up to see The National play a benefit show in the same venue two weeks ago (National actually debuted a new song called "Roman Candle" at the show).
Yeah, @smarchee recommended EL VY to me, and am just listening now. Like what I'm hearing so far! Not so sure it's exactly filling a hole that needed filling or anything (uhhh, that's what she said!!) - it's pretty similar to The National simply because of Matt's super distinctive voice - but it's good music for sure. Would consider buying the album(s?).

Graceless sounds pretty great. Love Matt's scream at the end.

Sorry Pearl Jam.
I actually agree with this. Pearl Jam was my favorite band of my teen years but that National have passed them as I've gotten older.
I think nothing will ever surpass PJ for me, but I got tickets to go see the National in London in November today and I can't wait!
I'm loving "don't swallow the cap", looking forward to the new album.
