Anyone Use Verizon for Phone/Data?

What do you think of the new plans?

Personally, I am outraged. I will be paying a lot more ($20 a month more) for far less data. Im planning on switching carriers after 12 years. Might just get a prepaid 'dumb phone' too.
Basically if you have a single phone, no tablet or other devices, you get boned hard.

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/verizon-d ... 39203.html
NEW YORK (AP) -- Verizon Wireless, the nation's largest cellphone company, is dropping nearly all of its phone plans in favor of pricing schemes that allow consumers to share data usage among up to ten phones and other devices.

The new plans will let individuals add non-phone devices like tablets and laptops to their plans, as well as the phones of family members.

The change takes effect June 28.

It's the biggest revamp in wireless pricing in years, and one that's likely to be copied by other carriers. AT&T Inc. has already said that it's looking at introducing shared-data plans soon.

Verizon's new "Share Everything" plans include unlimited phone calls and texting, and will start at $90 per month for one smartphone and 1 gigabyte of data. If used only with a smartphone, "Share Everything" prices are lower than for current plans with unlimited calling and texting, but higher than plans with limited calling and texting.

Bigger savings will come for those who add more devices like tablets to their plans. In such cases, the new pricing system will be cheaper compared to getting separate data plans for each device. That gives Verizon a chance to capitalize on the growing popularity of tablets. Few consumers put tablets on data plans, probably because they dread paying an extra $30 or so per month, on top of their phone bills.

Under "Share Everything," adding a tablet to a plan will cost $10 per month. Adding a USB data stick for a laptop will cost $20.

Verizon's limited-calling and texting plans will disappear, except for one $40-per-month plan intended for "dumb" phones. Verizon is keeping its limited-data plans for single non-phone devices, like the $30 tablet plan.

Current Verizon customers will be able to switch to the new plans or keep their old ones, with one exception. Those who have unlimited-data plans for their smartphones won't be able to move those to new phones, unless they pay the full, unsubsidized price for those phones. (For example, an iPhone 4S that costs $200 with a two-year contract costs $650 unsubsidized, with no contract.)

Verizon stopped signing people up for unlimited-data plans last summer. The industry as a whole is moving away from the plans, since the data capacity of their networks is limited.

Under the new plans, subscribers can stop worrying about monitoring the number of calling minutes or text messages their families use in a month, but they'll have to keep a close eye on data consumption. Verizon will allow subscribers to adjust their data allowance from month to month, but if they go over their monthly allotment, that will cost $15 per gigabyte.

Verizon couldn't handle my data usage...

If sprint ever does away with the unlimited data use, i'll go back to a prepaid phone and home internet.

I'm not sure if you have to switch.

Basically you are grandfathered until you get a new phone.

Then instead of $199 some odd dollars for renewing, you can pay like $600 and keep your plan.

i switched to Verzion (fom T-mobile) the weekend before this plan was released to the public 8-)

I have a dumb phone, so it doesn't really matter to me personally. But My dad and brother have data. If they shared i think they would both think that tho other would have leftover data and they would both go over the combined limits

This whole thing made me think about things a great deal.

It really hit me at the Roger Waters show last week. During intermission, they had really heavy images and eulogies of people unjustly killed by authority.
I look down and there is just glows all over the place of hundreds of these devices. LCD screens of all sizes. Pacifiers for adults. Its like mind control. Not to get all Zack De La Rocha, but its a distraction. Verizon by some degree is intertwined with the terrible political situation in the world. Im sure if these devices were linked to cancer in any way, that information would be repressed by the countless money to be made by these companies and politicians. They also cant be good for your eyes. They cause car accidents at an alarming frequency.

And here I am, like a good boy, paying them $100 a month for this shit?

The next night I was out to dinner with 3 friends and at one point, the 3 of them had their adult pacifiers out. I wanted to toss these things in the nearby river and free them.

This is the exact reason why I have kept my dumb phone! I go out with friends all the time, and eventually they will all be on their smart phones!

Imagine 9 college students in a bowling alley. Me plus the other 8 of them texting and playing 'hanging with friends'... Its really sad...

you are paying to much at $100 per month.

i don't have a problem when i go out if somebody checks their phone. now if they are on it all night, that's a different story. trust me, when you spend 14 hours with people on a hooky day, sometimes you need to get away for a minute or two. :P

but i agree with concerts...i hate seeing people fuck with their phone during the show to tweet or text or video the show. put it down you fucktard.

and at the movies, don't even get me started. that's a big no no

I dont even go to movies anymore (along with the lack of non-superhero movies) mostly due to the distractions of these Screens.

I do break the phone out when I am bored. Its a nice crutch. But I feel these devices are eroding human society, at least here. I would almost rather not have that temptation. Look at the scenery. Read a magazine in a waiting room... Read more in general.

And it is currently $80 a month, but will go up when I would need a new phone.

Im not sold on trashing it. I havent decided if I would really be doing myself a disservice by going off the grid a bit... as technology and society are moving in that direction. Im just in a foul mood about it lately.

    pretty much
Those who have unlimited-data plans for their smartphones won't be able to move those to new phones, unless they pay the full, unsubsidized price for those phones. (For example, an iPhone 4S that costs $200 with a two-year contract costs $650 unsubsidized, with no contract.)

Just read this in an article that came out today

"While the existing Verizon subscribers with tiered data plans won’t be forced to change their plans when they upgrade, the ones with the unlimited data plans will have to switch to one of the tiered plans unless they purchase an unsubsidized phone."

This is bullshit! I'm really pissed off about this. What's worse I've been eligible for an upgrade for a few months but waiting to see what other phones were coming down the pipeline later this month. BS!

write an angry email. I did and I got a uniform response and a call... But if enough people write and/or cancel, things will change and at the very least other carriers will know not to make the same mistake.

not sure how sprint is in your area, but we've had it for two years now. been solid so far, although they are sort of a dumb company. they jumped on the wimax 4g system when everyone else was going LTE. they are now playing catchup and building out their LTE network. looks like Dallas will be one of the first sprint cities to get LTE in mid july. worth looking into, IMO.

My wife got her upgrade a few months ago and so her phone is locked into the contract. Since my phone number (same account) is still eligible for an upgrade does that mean I can leave verizon without paying a penalty? Also, since my wife and I are on the same account and when she was upgraded she was grandfathered into the unlimited plan, how wold it affect us if I tried to get an upgrade?

Son of a biscuit! I was really hoping to keep my grandfathered unlimited data plan! I have a program on my phone called PDANet that allows me to hookup my phone to my laptop and surf the web through my phone.

Damn! I was worried it would only be a matter of time until they figured all of this out.

BS!
I got grandfathered into to my old unlimited plan a month or two ago...before they proposed this. So, I should have two years left of unlimited data, even though I really don't even use that much.
My company gave us 4G Verizon MiFi's. In all reality, I should have probably signed up for a cheaper, non-unlimited data plan and just used that. Doh! :fp:
