umm..the intro was pretty cool actually. could've easily been on the last record as well (in which they went a bit overboard with all the effects as well, but it still had some great songs, especially live).

the part afterwards though...might work if it's just a small section of a song, but a whole song like that? :nono:

Ok, I don´t know what to think about this song, hope the rest of the cd gets much more like the muse sound from the past.

How come you want them to sound like they did in the past? Dont you like a band to progress? Dont get me wrong, I love what they've come up with previously, especially an album like OOS which is probably my favourite of theirs, but it's good for bands to move ahead with different kinds of music, whilst being able to retain the sound they're famous for (if you know what I mean). I like the sound of this new single, wonder how they're going to be able to play it live. Bring an orchestra with them when they tour? Looking forward to the new album! ;)

  • I am actually very excited for The 2nd Law. I love how they are experimenting their sound. Muse is on top of my list of bands who I want to go see in 2013.

Because I love Muse and I will keep an open mind. Unfortunately the bits I've heard so far plus that thing they wrote for the Olympics sounds total shite.

Yes they're great live. Muse seem to be a band many people on this board like to shitcan, but I think they're great. Guess some people can't handle "over-the-top" type of bands like Muse, but there's more to this world than PJ, much as I love PJ. Good luck with seeing Muse live, you wont regret the experience!

Just had my first listen today. Pretty impressed this time around I must say. The opening 4 or 5 songs are really good and it's a vast improvement on The Resistance which I can't even listen to. I think this will be a grower and the songs should translate well live. I might even be tempted to go and see them for the first time since the Absolution tour... :)

I've just listened to Origin Of Symmetry, Absolution, Black Holes & Revelations and then The Second Law. This is really a much better listen than I expected. The keyboards and strings are pretty in your face sometimes but it's extremely well balanced and they've had an excellent mix in the studio. This is up there with their best recordings. Headphones are essential!! Brilliant that they're back on form. I thought The Resistance was the start of the downward spiral but apparently not yet!! :D

yeah the first 4-5 songs are great. Really like Supremacy and Panic Station. Actually the first three tracks might be the best first three tracks this year.

Panic Station is easily one of the best songs they've written, it's like a party with Queen and Scissor Sisters with The Edge on guitar! This song will be remixed to death! I'm really loving Madness too, the Queen influence is really heavy and a hint of Radiohead there too. That guitar solo is ridiculously catchy. I think I read somewhere, Wiki maybe that they dug deep into I Want To Break Free for influence and that solo obviously was inspired by Brian May. As a whole it's a really good album but I've not made my mind up about each track individually. I love that they continue to progress musically and refuse to stick to a blueprint. Matt Bellamy said one of the songs was played as a 45 minute jam in the studio and that maybe they'd surprise everyone and play it live on the tour. I wonder which song it is...

Just finally listened to this for the first time...I'll need more time with it, but so far it's really not my cup of tea. But I never was a big Queen fan, so I guess that's why...Madness somewhat reminded me of George Michael's "Faith". I don't think me and this album will become great friends  I really enjoyed all the piano things they did on The Resistance, but this is just too much for me I think.

Im a little late to this party but having heard this today Im frankly amazed that this record was made by a band that used to be SOOOOOOOOOO good. What i heard on this record made me want to pop my ear drums, after taking out the CD and snapping it into a million pieces

i can safely say that this will be the last record i'll buy from Muse. Was a huge fan, until the resistance which was beyond shite, so i hoped after reading many a nice thing said that this was a return to form. Sadly they have continued down the path of high pitched almost female sounding vocals, disco themed beats, and totally woeful lyrics on a less than discreet musical nod to Queen.

    Terrible.

I wouldnt normally be so judgemental after only one listen but I fail to see anything in what I heard to suggest its a grower
